You also have to consider how much the teams have increased in value.

I agree, but the increase in value is unrealized.

I agree, but the increase in value is unrealized.

So is Jerry Jones's interest in the Dallas Cowboys. There are a variety of ways to generate cash from assets that have appreciated in value but which you haven't yet sold.

I know those are the numbers they report, but there is no way in hell they are accurate and I don't believe them.

This is a thoroughly modern right-wing reaction to data.

tbh, I'm not sure either the modern era or the political right has a monopoly on "I'm just going to refuse to believe data."

Hes probably right in some aspect in that the base case viewership for ESPN aired WNBA games is ~800,000(made up number) sports bars that keep ESPN on 24/7

But that would also apply to NBA games

There’s just nothing that can be done for these people ^

revenue is kinda the only number that matters. it's a business.

NBA brings in 10-11 billion per year
WNBA is 200 million

it's due to misleading data - not all broadcasts are equal

if you isolate by network it is a very different picture

also, most nba content is consumed via local networks showing the local team whereas wnba is more often the national broadcast of the marquee matchup (usually involving caitlin clark)

you gotta remember that some wnba teams play in arenas so small that when the fever or sky come to town they need to temporarily find a bigger venue for those games

a few teams average less than 5k a game even with the clark factor included

by Rococo m

thinking that short term profitability is some sort of impenetrable argument for meager WNBA salaries is also dumb.

Short term profitability? The WNBA has been in existence for 30 years and still needs to be propped up by money from the NBA. The "meager" WNBA salaries are a reflection of the profitability of the league.

Player salaries are estimated around 20 million and they have a 200 million a year media deal so that should change unless the owners are incompetent or crooks

Maybe the WNBA has millions of adoring fans but the players are just really really terrible at negotiating salaries?

here is where it begins if anyone cares to see for themselves

the thread https://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/29/ne...

If I was Rick the CIA would have to torture me to get me to admit to the existence of this thread.

Operating costs for the league are over $200 million.

There was a recent Caitlin Clark/angel Reese boost, but I don’t think anyone knows if it will sustain. Personal anecdote, I watched quite a bit of women’s basketball her last year at Iowa and first year in wnba (including games she wasn’t involved in) and didn’t watch one second of women’s basketball last year. Bloom off the rose I guess. Anyways, NBA is a worldwide league a

Paige Bueckers is a baller. If college keeps churning out talent like that there is reason to be optimistic.
I was just overall surprised to see that kind of viewership.
If you had told me the NBA gets 1.5mil a game I would have guessed the WNBA was like 300k.
Average ticket price is $17 this is kind of rough though.

If I was Rick the CIA would have to torture me to get me to admit to the existence of this thread.

1. I thought Rick was posting in good faith in that thread.

2. Rick admitted he was probably wrong in his assessment of how to play the hand.

3. Several posters there got snarky for the sake of getting snarky.

4. Rick over-reacted to the snarkers. (Which he does sometimes in this forum as well.)

5. Looks like a proverbial nothingburger to me.

6. Speaking of which, I'm getting hungry. Bye for now!

Good to know that as the president of the US threatens to cancel midterm elections, the forum is focusing on the important things like whether women in the wnba are underpaid because sexism and whether a handfull of trans women athletes should play in women’s sports or only coed leagues.

I myself think the things you mentioned are far more interesting than whether or not the midterm elections are cancelled.

That is because no one reasonable actually believes midterm elections will be canceled.

tbh, I'm not sure either the modern era or the political right has a monopoly on "I'm just going to refuse to believe data."

That's probably fair.

Canceled? No. Republicans need the midterms to happen, too. Manipulated? Absolutely.

that says alot

by lozen m

Yet the league continues to lose money. What you forget is your just counting US viewership not worldwide which the NBA does well at. These women play for the love of the game and I can not imaging being traded to a city like NY making $80,000 For many fans you can take your family out to watch a game at an affordable rate . You can take your daughter to a game and say tell her

its also just not true. not sure where he got the numbers but their wrong. the wnba is not putting up 85% of the nbA LUL. maybe someone hand picked caitlyn clark games only. 90% of the nba is also just watched on illegal streams for people outside the us including Canada so im not sure how you can even calculate it. People in canada or china can't watch the local lakers game on official channels but we still watch them. I watch my local team on illegal streams because they wan't me to buy 3 subscriptions.

Theres not even a wnba section on any of the sites i use...

lol so the numbers presented here were based on NATIONALLY TELEVISISED CAITLYN CLARK GAMES IN HER ROOKIE SEASON.

How manipulative can you get. What about the local Washington Mystics stream with 1k veiwers

by Gorgonian m

Canceled? No. Republicans need the midterms to happen, too. Manipulated? Absolutely.

this is how libs think.

any mention of possible nefarious stuff at 2020 election and they call you endless names.

but then when it's the other way, of course 100% it will happen

Don't forget they try to trick you into thinking the wnba is 85% as popular with very nefarious numbers. Truly the white knight side of the ideology
