Winter Break! Trip report 1/27-2/3
Sitting here in sub zero weather I am really looking forward to getting out of here next week for the much more desirable 50's and 60's of Las Vegas. If you know my previous TRs this one will likely follow the script. Plan is to play some tournies mainly, mix in some cash and eat some of my favorite foods (which you can probably predict!).
I will be staying at Treasure Island or as I call it the budget tower of the Venetian/Palazzo. I typically stay at the V/P except when the prices there are too high. I will be staying in a Petite Suite (whatever that is?) which is an upgrade from a standard room. Even with that upgrade it is less than half the price of a V/P room that week. One time I stayed in a TI Tower Suite and that was overkill at how big it was (still a bargain vs. V/P). Before Venetian moved the poker room the TI was just as close to it as the Palazzo was. But still it is very conveniant. Since I play mainly at Venetian and Wynn so this is a good location.
Venetian (as always) has some sort of deep stack event going. The main event (for me) will be a 2 day $800 tourny. It has 3 day ones (thur, fri, sat) with final day 2 on Sunday. I plan on playing 1A on Thursday, then Wynn dailies on Friday and Saturday and hopefully day 2 on Sunday. If I miss the cut on Sunday I plan to play the Venetian one day $400. Other than that I will mix in cash. Also plan on doing the Wizard of Oz in the Sphere. I never to shows but I really want to see something inside the Sphere and I imagine it will be impressive. My next door neighbor is a huge Oz fan and she went out there the week it opened a loved it.
Really can't wait to get out there again, last trip was in September and that feels like 10 years ago even though it was only 4 months!
In!

looking forward to it. warm up the tables for me!
I'm interested in hearing about your Oz experience; I may follow suit

We have overlapped a few times on the "winter" trip before but I guess I am a week early for you this year. Just bought my ticket for "Oz" and I recommend you wait as long as you can. The ticket I was eyeing up this afternoon was $169 and when I just went to buy it now it was $159. Plenty of seats available? Maybe I should have waited longer. But this was a single in a center section fairly forward which I understand is a premium location.
Side note, I haven't seen The Wizard of Oz in over 40 years but I am watching it right now. I understand the Sphere interpretion of it is only about an hour long.

Did you get a good price on the TI room, or is it comped? I'm starting to think I should give some play to TI. Unless things have changed, all their suites have a fridge, and most of them are near the elevators. I used to stay in them almost always back when they had a poker room.

No comps, I don't gamble that much. Just got a decent price.
Always in for a mrbaseball TR!
I haven't been to LV in over a year. I won't be back until this summer, but am starting to read some TRs as at least a trip is booked.
Best of luck!
Like the others, always in for a mrb TR!
Safe travels, have fun.
Good luck! Where do you live btw? Hopefully your flight won't be affected by the snowstorm that's supposed to (or have already?) hit the US. Seems like Vegas will be spared at least.
I'm in the middle of the midwest here in the States, and can confirm that the snow is hitting currently.
EDIT: Will be following along for this TR!

Chicago area, just started to snow a bit but they don't expect more than 6 inches and it should be clear on Monday and Tuesday so I don't expect problems. The airports here can typically handle the weather if it isn't totally extreme blizzard type stuff.
hope you get run good on travel plans and at the tables
How we feelin, mrbaseball? Hopefully they've got the snow figured out up in chitown.
I have arrived.

The petite Suite is nothing special it's just a bigger room with a couch and it also has two bathrooms which I don't really need I'm not really thrilled with the layout of it but it will do.

Now I'm going to go head out and get something to eat and then try to jump into a poker game I'll let you guys know how that goes later on.
Did they take your shoelaces?
Seriously, I'm glad you arrived safely. I have a family friend that had their MCO to PHL cancelled until Thursday.
only 'Petite Suite' I've stayed in was Harrahs about a decade + ago and it was indeed a small suite with it's own lounge room with bar and coffee set up and then a large bedroom and a huge shower room
very old fashioned at the time (pre their renovation) with bad showers and terrible, noisy air con but it was way bigger at least
also here for the mrbb tr
Run good and enjoy the trip. I'm looking forward to hearing about Oz.
So once I got settled in I headed over to Caesar's Palace they have dinner at the Cheesecake factory. I had the chicken parmesan sandwich and a piece of Cinnabon cheesecake both are outstanding but it was way too much food. I only ate half of the sandwich because I wanted to save room for the cheesecake but I didn't finish that quite all the way either.

After eating I headed over to the Caesars Palace poker room to try my chances at Cash. I played for about 4 hours and I never really got anything going. I think the most I was ever up was about 30 or $40. And I spent most of the time stuck about $150. I got cooler in a couple of times and had some brutal River beats. I was getting tired and I wanted to get back to the room and get cleaned up so I cashed out down $98.
My body clock is pretty hosed because I'm a very early to bed early to rise kind of guy. And that doesn't translate well to the Las Vegas time zone. I'm going to try to force myself to stay up as late as I can tonight and hopefully get a good night's sleep so I can adjust to the new time zone. Tomorrow I just plan on playing cash during the day and then I'm going to The Wizard of Oz for the 5:00 show and I'll probably play some more cash after that the tournaments will start on thursday.
