If you lived in Minneapolis, and an ICE agent demand ID.....
......would you comply. (You have broken no law. You're just walking into the grocery store.)
Why or Why not?
clinton definitely evades scrutiny due to me being so young during his actual presidencybut he had real charisma and gravitas - i honestly couldn't tell you much about him from a policy standpoint i'm genuinely pissed he did nothing in regards to glass-steagall but that's about ithistorically speaking he was one of, if not the most popular non wartime presidents we've ever hada
I wasn't commenting on Clinton's popularity. He obviously was popular. And his political skills were prodigious. He truly enjoyed campaigning and meeting thousands of people, whereas Obama never did.
His policy record undeniably was centrist. NAFTA had more support in both houses of Congress from Republicans than it did from Democrats. His welfare reform bill and crime bills were also far from left-leaning.
I didn't find Kamala to be at all incoherent. She certainly was less prone to malapropisms than Biden or Trump. She did come off as packaged to me, but that's a stumbling block for a lot of politicians who want to be president but never make it. Avoiding the perception of being packaged is incredibly important as a national politician, but also very difficult to coach. It e
yes this was her main problem - all her public interactions seemed so obviously forced and packaged and overly enthusiastic to the point where it felt absurdly put on
i think if she was a bit more low key and chill it would have done her wonders
she also appears to look drunk quite often
i remember we were on an indian food kick for a while so when kamala and mindy kaling did a cooking collab we watched it
for parts she seems genuine and real - but then it's like she remembers "oh i gotta perform" and it all goes to hell
watch at 4:40 and tell me if you saw that clip out of context you would think she were sober

and then when mindy's dad pops up at 7:15 she really kicks it into overdrive and instead of a casual hello, she acts like she's meeting her father for the first time

watching it, you can see he's mildly uncomfortable by how into it she is and begins leaning backward a little
and this was a more natural video - it's useful because it both demonstrates how much she'd "put it on" at times as you see her transition in and out of it as well as the posture and facial expressions that sometimes make her appear inebriated when she clearly isn't
I'm going to go out on a limb and posit that deep analysis of this cooking video is not helping your case
You can just say you find her offputting and leave it at that. You don't have to spend so much time and effort explaining exactly why you find her offputting in the most nitpicky and deeply analytical way

Kamala at her most charismatic

not a fan of nafta
huge fan of welfare reform - clinton crushed that

we need more of that as the loopholes which clinton closed have been replaced by other benefits which are unecessary
food stamps should only be able to buy essentials - instead they can be used for anything food related - and such a massive portion of the population is shopping with them that it's now common to advertise it

there's obviously edge cases where people absolutely do require welfare to survive due to things such as disabilities
and i think food stamps is far preferable to giving out money directly
but the manner in which we execute is laughable
most other countries which have programs like this don't just give carte blanche, instead it's a short list of government subsidized foods which are essentials
really wish we'd bring back government cheese instead of letting people buy organic grass fed steak and reeses peanut butter cups on amazon

Unless you are indifferent to policy or your views about policy changed relatively significantly over time, I don't understand "loving" Bill Clinton and Bernie. Bill Clinton probably was closer to a centrist Republican in terms of policy than any other Democratic nominee in the last fifty years. Bernie is very different.Maybe you are just saying that you liked both of them on
Even though Bill may be a pedo he was by far the US's best President in the last 75 years and yes he was more of a fiscal Republican
In terms of seeming packaged, DeSantis was as bad as anyone I have ever seen, in large part because the packaging seemed not only obvious but also poorly done. He came across as badly conceived Christmas gift wrapped by a three year old.
Bill Clinton was a mans man who got a blow job from his mistress in the Oval Office
I'll let everyone else decide what I am implying with that comment
seems like everyone agrees that ice is terrorizing people unjustly, and it needs to stop.
the thing is USA has been doing this the whole time it's existed! literally since 1776. it's never stopped. natives, africans, middle east, Asia, central and south america.
the only difference is this time it's white Americans in Minnesota. and they did it before at Kent state too.
some of us think this is awful and needs to stop no matter who is the target. some of us think it's fine, depending on the targets.
and rickroll,
obama was a total POS, and so is bernie. they all are. literally every single one of them. mamdani too.
for centuries politicians are widely mocked for being corrupt, lying, greedy murderers
and some think its fine when their team (ie the Dems) do the terrorizing
Good interview - recommend it.
Exclusive: 'Pink coat lady' who recorded fatal encounter between federal officers and Alex Pretti speaks to Anderson Cooper
This post doesn't lead to the conclusion that this women apparently believes that it does.
I'm not sure what conclusion you are coming to from the tweet
I take away a few things:
The Biden administration was a lot more competent on these matters than literally anyone gives them credit
The Trump administration has continually piggy backed off the previous administrations success
The Shirley thing is extra dumb when you realize they are just piggy backing off this investigation
I was already aware of these facts, but many posters here either aren't or pretend like they aren't

Do they become sweethearts if they turn into state officials? Will that lead us the the "world class" Healthcare system under Stalin?
roc - just to nip this in the bud
i'm for government assistance - i think government should take a very active role in either providing freely outright or subsidizing essentials for life
mail
roads
utilities
housing
education
healthcare
science
waste
security
regulating businesses
etc
i do not think we should just go "oh you haven't worked for 5 years? here's a monthly paycheck"
that's why i'm a fan of a UBI but not welfare - while many on it have it out of necessity, most are not
we've all seen what happened with covid furloughs - every single one of us know many people who were offered their jobs back and refused
we found during covid that each time unemployment benefits rose by 10%, we saw a 3.6% decline in job applications
the rate at which furloughed employees refused to return when offered their job back was triple the normal rate during covid when benefits were higher

unemployment dropped by 14% overnight once the covid era benefits expired
all across the country we're seeing small businesses struggle because they can't find workers - meanwhile there are 34 million able bodied adults in america who are between the ages of 18 and 64 and are permanently unemployed and living off government benefits
this is one reason why i get so frustrated when people declare that illegal immigrants are required - otherwise small businesses would fail - but there's only 14 million of them, almost a third as many are full time unemployed americans (they aren't included in unemployment rates because you need to be actively searching for work to get counted in that)
if we just cut the benefits those people would be forced to go to work
this is also really close to home for me as i've lived in two regions of the united states that have a lot of seasonal jobs and worked them myself - growing up i knew of many adults who would stop working after a certain point of the year because if they worked anymore they'd lose their benefits - you'd often see the employers negotiate under the table deals when they were desperate for the labor in order to get them to stay on until the end of the season so i've seen this all first hand
