Winter Break! Trip report 1/27-2/3

Good luck!

First break 92.6 k. I was really running hot and levels one and two and didn't do much of anything at all and levels three and four. Early on I got the king queen suited three times and all three times the Flop was high pair with a four flush. I want all three of those pots and they are all pretty decent size. The biggest hit was when I had Ace King against 10:10 and got the lady to go all in and I won. So I'm sitting pretty good well above average.

Second break 96.1 k

Not much progress but I'm still above average with the average being about 59k. The first hour and a half since the last break I was totally card dead and blinded off blind it off and then the last 20-30 minutes I hit a couple of small pots to get me back up to where I started. Hopefully I can catch some hands and and make some noise in this thing.

Third break 119.2 k.

Still really card dead and folding a lot. I'm getting just enough to stay ahead of the game. Right now the average stack is about 78k. Registration finally ends at the end of this break.

I'm out. 29th Place 12 were to advance. That was one of the most miserable card dead experiences of my entire poker career. After that last break I couldn't catch anything just garbage garbage garbage. Whenever I did try to make a move boom someone will come right back over the top and I didn't have anything to back up my moves will. Finally when I got down to about 35k folded around to the cut off who was Mr aggressive he probably raised 60% of the time. I had King Nine suited and that looked like pocket aces to me at that time so I just showed and he actually had a hand for a change and I was gone. Sitting in Gillies right now and I'm about to eat $40 worth of my free food at the Treasure Island hopefully it's good.

Gillies was actually pretty good. I had the brisket filet which comes with two sides for which I chose the french fries and the mac and cheese. The brisket was excellent the fries were mediocre and the mac and cheese was actually kind of tasty. The bill came to exactly $40.10 so I hit it right on the button.

I'm kind of bummed out right now after such a strong start in the tournament to finish so weakly. I guess it's never a good thing when you peek in level 2.

Tomorrow I'm planning on playing in the Wynn 240 rebuy tournament. I've never played in this actual tournament before so I have a couple of questions. I'n Bravo it says unlimited rebuys but no additional registration. I don't really see how there's that much difference between the two. Also it said that this has a $100 add-on for 15K extra chips. When does the add-on happen does anyone know. I'm assuming it's at the end of registration.

Every Wynn tournament I've played with an add-on allowed you to buy it instantly. Register, get your stack, take your seat, and take out another $100. Dealer and floor guy should be pretty quick in getting your extra chips to the table. They'll be explicit about how long the add-on period lasts, but their rule has always been that you need chips in front of you to buy the add-on. In other words, you can't wait to get stacked and then try to buy more chips. It's a one-time only thing and you need to have chips. If you bust out and re-reg, I think at that point you would be able to buy another add-on.

????????? I have played a lot of Wynn Tournies and never saw anybody add-on ever. I am pretty sure it is only for the Friday "rebuy" tournament. I am a one bullet kind of guy so I never rebuy but I always would take advantage of any add-on if they have one. But I haven't played in this rebuy Wynn format before

Sounds exactly like my experience of a Venetian tourney in October. Played well (I felt) for 11 hours and busted just short of the top 19 to advance to day 2.

I played this Wynn Friday add-on tournament before the Super Bowl in 2024. you can pay for the add-on anytime before the end of registration. I didn't find the add-on to be worth the cost.and skipped it.
if you bust you can rebuy, like any tourney in Vegas.

Yeah I guess I just don't understand the difference between rebuy and reentry other than you get to keep sitting in the same seat.

Slept pretty lousy again last night. I was exhausted and I hit the pillow and I was out cold immediately. But I was also wide awake at 4:00 a.m. this morning. So I decided to go out and take my morning walk I walked all the way through the Venetian and the Palazzo both levels all over the place then I went over and did a couple laps around the wincore then I had it back to the ti for another workout. After that I cleaned up and went down to the breakfast place at the ti for my free breakfast. Since I'm not sure if I'm going to eat again at the ti today I ordered the most expensive thing on the menu which was steak and eggs. It was actually pretty good but the steak certainly wasn't a choice or prime cut. But it also wasn't extra chewy like most breakfast steaks are.

A few observations from yesterday's tournament. It played a little different from any other tournament I've ever been in out here in Las vegas. It was very laggy very aggressive and people would not give up their cards without a fight. This is a good table to get good cards at. Unfortunately I got all my good cards in the first two levels and really not much after that.

There was a little old Asian lady directly on my right who might have been the worst poker player I've ever seen in my life. She saw about 95% of the flops and she at least men raised about 50% of those. Obviously it didn't matter what she had. She also went all in a lot just trying to buy the pot which works early in the tournament. In level 2 with the blinds 100 200 there was an early position raise to $800 which is pretty standard. Then this lady raised to $5,300 I looked down at my cards and I had Ace King suited. I had already accumulated a pretty big stack at this time and I was sitting on about 80k she had about 25k so I'm decided to make a $20,000 raise to put her all in. She called and actually had a pair of tens. But I hit my king on the Flop and she was gone. But she wasn't gone for good because she merely went to the cage to rebuy. Then she came and sat in a very same seat. I kept waiting for an opportunity to stack her again but my cards were just very very bad. But I did finally get her one more time when she made a desperation shovel through the last 8,500 chips and I had pocket jacks. So that's the first time I've ever knocked the same person out of a tournament twice.

Speaking of those pocket Jacks that was one of three that's right three pairs that I was dealt all tournament long. The others were a pair of nines and a pair of threes. A pair of Threes was a very interesting hand. I was in the big blind and there was a standard pre-flop raise three of us were in the hand. The Flop came three Jack King rainbow. So I hit the set and I'm feeling really good about it. I decided to go for a check raise. So I checked the guy on my left checked and the guy on the button who was the razor that 3,000. I raised to $9,000 and the guy on my left called the initial razor went all in. So I obviously called that as did the guy on my left. Luckily I had them both covered because I wasn't going to win this pot. The guy on my left had pocket jacks so he fought the set of jacks while I flopped a set of threes. The initial razor had Ace King so he had top pair. But since the Jacks was the small stack I got the side part which didn't win me any money but it didn't lose me any either I broke about even for the hand. But that was pretty much how the tournament was going after those that first initial Rush that I had in level one in the beginning of level two I was just miserably card dead I'd hit a hand every maybe 25 hands just to stay where I was or maybe increase a little but I was just getting very frustrated with the garbage that I was getting dealt. I felt I was as patient as I possibly could have been and it was very difficult. Hopefully things go better today I got about 8 and 1/2 hours of tournament under my belt for this trip so far so I know what to expect.

Just going to wander around until tournament time. I may or may not jump into a cash game for an hour or so beforehand. And if anyone's wondering the big ass guitar is going to be huge.

Just wrapped up a decent one hour session at the venetian. In for $300 out for 500 so a nice $200 profit

The big pot was a busted straight good thing my opponent didn't know that. Now I'm going to try to get a few steps in before the tournament starts I should be over there by noon. But I want to get some steps in because hopefully I'll be leather asking that thing all day long.

I wonder how strange it will feel to be in one of those guitar rooms where the outside wall is curved.
