POG PUB 2025-2026: About damn time. For a lot of things. But not everything.

Happy New Year, everyone.

I'll let you all mentally fill in the categories in the title.

Don't need a fanny pack. Just a pocket for my phone.

Everything is on my phone: House access, car keys, drivers license, credit cards plus phone stuff

what if no battery?

Pajamas are a social construct.

by amplify m

What if a monkey steals your phone.

by rickroll m

what if no battery?

Lots of wireless chargers! (including the car)

But as a backup, I can also use my watch.

authorities and corporate overlords, here is access to my soul. I submit. it's totally worth it for this shiny gadget. thank you masters

Who hasn't already bent the knee?

by Mark_K m

Who hasn't already bent the knee?

some of us bend the knee, and some bend over and spread the cheeks.

reminds me of a bukowski poem

nobody can save you but
yourself.
you will be put again and again
into nearly impossible
situations.
they will attempt again and again
through subterfuge, guise and
force
to make you submit, quit and/or die quietly
inside.
nobody can save you but
yourself
and it will be easy enough to fail
so very easily
but don’t, don’t, don’t.
just watch them.
listen to them.
do you want to be like that?
a faceless, mindless, heartless
being?
do you want to experience
death before death?
nobody can save you but
yourself
and you’re worth saving.
it’s a war not easily won
but if anything is worth winning then
this is it.
think about it.
think about saving your self.
your spiritual self.
your gut self.
your singing magical self and
your beautiful self.
save it.
don’t join the dead-in-spirit.
maintain your self
with humor and grace
and finally
if necessary
wager your life as you struggle,
damn the odds, damn
the price.
only you can save your
self.
do it! do it!

Nice poem Filthy! I like it.

I also think it's important to not live constantly looking over your shoulder.

I also love technology! (LDO)

Speaking of tech, is anyone setting up their own openclaw agent? I've got a simple setup but I'm too cheap to spend real money so I think I want to set up a Kimi K2 server. We'll see where this goes

I was mentioning at work recently that we have all this AI but we don't have anything that can, say, given 5 attendees and a topic find the best slot for a meeting in the next week, create that meeting, invite everyone, follow up with meeting notes, etc.

I think people want to solve these issues with MCP servers but that just pushes the problem down the stack so to speak.

I have a spare laptop with a 4070 so I can play on that but I'm not buying cloud resources.

Do you have extensive home automation?

by amplify m

Do you have extensive home automation?

I would say above average but not extensive. Lots of Google Home's, lights, House alarm, garage door, weather station, sprinkler controller

some integrated, some not. I use a Hubitat controller for integration and logic and a little SmartThings too.

Autonomous agents aren't going anywhere near my production environment though, I had an LLM attempt to vibe delete a platform server last week. If I had run the command it gave me, cya.

A perfect application. Ignoring costs, I think the biggest issue is reliablity.

Ignoring costs and reliability, I can engineer anything!

I've also inadvertantly dropped a few databases.

ignore reality and justice(and children) and you'd sound like elon

Tho much is taken, much abides; and tho
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

-Tennyson

At my old job, we were building some agentic stuff. One of the engineers (who my dumbass boss loved) thought that instead of building agents to run pentests, he'd instead build an agent to build those agents, and then let it run unsupervised on his computer.

It did so much damage that he was blocked from access to the corporate VPN & remotely locked out of his computer. Once they fixed that, he did something else, and broke it so badly he had to ship his computer back to our hardware supplier to have it fixed.

One of the most surreal experiences of my professional life is when he asked during standup how to give sudo access to the agent. It was a good 3 minutes after he said it that I realized what he said (he used a lot of words to say not a lot, it often just washed over you as a wall of sound) and was able to put a stop to that / suggest that maybe Docker would be a better solution than allowing the agent super user access to the word guessing machine. He ignored me, almost certainly because he couldn't figure out how to install Docker when the AI didn't have permissions

how long ago was that stuff?

everyone with us uses cursor at work and it's great but you definitely need to read all the code pretty carefully to make sure it didn't do something crazy

That was October

He basically made some bespoke malware that was installing who knows what on his computer and spamming random websites with things that looked like attacks

i've found it's super helpful to have an agent dedicated to qa

despite that it's the same ai behind the scenes, having a fresh look with a "find problems" mission will highlight a lot of the things that the agent writing the code missed

We had a big step up in effectiveness (ignoring dummy described above) when we setup another model as evaluator/qa/whatever you want to call it. So we'd ask an Opus model to create a plan for a task, and then have a sonnet model evaluate the plan, and use its feedback to have opus iterate on the plan. It still works asking the same model to give feedback, but alternate models improved the results a fair bit.

One of the engineers used that model as well for writing code - he'd rotate between Cursor, Claude Code and one other that I've forgotten (Maven or something?) to iterate on development plans, and after he had a good description of the system he wanted built he'd feed it to Claude, and then manually code review & test the outupt

Zurvan, any restrains on money? You can chew through a $100 of tokens on a fool's errard.

If you want to blow up on YouTube, definitely go with Shorts.

I am not trying to blow up on YouTube at all and I only uploaded a video because my cat turned on the electric piano and then sat on the low D# and F#.

Anyway, 1500 views in 2 days.

a team of about a dozen people and outside of normal fees, we use about 2k a month in credits

an entry level engineer makes several multiples of that and we're all way more productive on this than without

i'm getting tasks done in 3 hours that would have taken over a week to do 10 years ago

this is why there's massive layoffs in tech right now - the cost of ai is far below the benefits to where it's not even a question of costs
