Happy New Year, everyone.

I'll let you all mentally fill in the categories in the title.

lunch on my hike

i've never in my life, in all my travels, ever seen someone eat an avocado like that

I'm impressed that you preserved it's shape.

Peeling it must have been excellent meditation.

peel came off really easy. it was a great way to eat it. easier than peeling an orange. maybe it depends on the avocado? i've only done it a few times.

I started growing avocado trees from all the leftover pits. It’s surprisingly easy, I do it in little tea cups next to the sink.

I have 2 avocado "trees" that I planted when I was 5-10 years old, according to my grandparents. That makes them 40+ years old!

They're very skinny because I almost killed them a couple of years ago, but they sprouted back up! Just a plain ol' grocery store haas, stuck the pit in some dirt.

buddy in college grew potatoes in a grocery bag full of dirt on his porch

just dropped one in from the store one day and beheld

xn I may have that same cutting board, bamboo?

love it, except the repeated strawberry juice abuse is starting to stain a bit

ah, cut a circle and slide up?

I was fantasizing a spiral pull down 😅

it was a spiral pull down. and no knife. just cut an opening with my fingernail.

Search for "karl the kat komposition".Edit: Karl is big in Russia!

There might be something you want to change about the title though because right now Karl looks like he might be katwhistling πŸ˜ƒ

It took me a minute, at first I didn't have a klu what you meant.

I have a very similar cutting board, too--but a bit thicker. πŸ˜ƒ

lentil masala with jasmine rice

do they ever yield fruit?

I've been using the blow torch on noodles to get wok hei with moderate success. One of my favorite quick meals.

Nope. They've never even flowered to my knowledge. I'm not sure if it's from keeping them short, the temps around here, or just the type of pit. They're not even that attractive really, basically just keeping them around from momentum and a touch of sentimentality.

They take forever to grow too… My little twig with three leaves in a teacup is like 8 months old…

They take off once you put them outside in the spring. I think the pot size has a lot to do with determining how much they grow too.

My mom used to try that in our kitchen windowsill. I'm not sure she even ever got three leaves. You've inspired me, though, I'm going to try that with my next avocado.

In other news, it's a cold, dreary, grey February day in KC today, so I've decided to give up on life, pumpkin spice style:

In a medium to large mixing bowl combine:
2 cups all purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
2 heaping tsp ground cinnamon
1 heaping tsp ground ginger
1 tsp turmeric
1 pinch kosher salt

In a 2 cup measuring cup combine:
1/3 cup unsweetened almond milk
1/3 cup unsweetened applesauce
1/2 cup brown sugar
`1/4 cup granulated sugar
2 tsp vanilla extract

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and add:
1 can pure pumpkin
1/2 cup walnuts, reserving additional for topping

Currently baking at 350 for 55 minutes, and filling my kitchen with warm, inviting smells.

☺️

hooray giving up on life!
