However, a significant difference imo between Iran and the U.S. is that Iran has been a theocracy for the past 47 years. There is a literal conflation of church and state there. That is not the case in any Western nation. Even Israel has a secular government.

I am personally careful about not using religious language in this way. Just a personal quirk; not making any sort of political or theological stand by doing it. But my son has started to say "Jesus Christ" all the time in the "JFC" way; and I do find it a little jarring and make sure to tease him for it when he does it.

Years and years ago I used to play live poker 7 card stud with an older Persian guy who would always say "Allah Akbar" and hold up his hands and look to the sky when squeezing the river card. He wasn't religious at all as far as I can tell, just a cultural thing. And the judge has to sign-off on the settlement.
The settlement barely dents their influence while the penalty is less than a quarters net income for a company that should be on the hook for literally 100x that amount (or more)
