What'd You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)
I think this forum could use a BBV thread, so here it is.
Brag: Shot 80 today on my home course (par 72) - I'm a 12 hand
I hit the range yesterday to try to figure out why my ball striking has been so horrendous. I "thought" I figured something out. Today's round started like virtually every round lately. Triple, triple. I felt like I couldn't hit anything right. Ended up with a 52 on the front but a par on 9 and my swing feeling a bit better. Turned it completely around on the back and swu
If you have the ability to shoot 40 your game is getting to a good place. Don't overthink the swing stuff, just play the game.

what he said
let thoughts help you attain a reasonably sustainable place during range sessions, while striving for on course analysis be primairly about what to hit where shot strategy occurring well before ever addressing the ball
result is sum total ninety seconds actual effort spent in advancing the ball forward scattered within over four hours of swing dancing with the game brought to the prom
I would be way happier about a 52-40 score than a 46-46. GG biggerboat
Thanks.
Today, not so great. Started out with a rare birdie on 1 but couldn't keep it up. 97(46/51). My short game was horrible. Every chip was waaay short. Not usually an issue for me but just wasn't working. Had a couple blowup holes. Just sloppy play.
3/8/26
Desert Springs
Par 72 - 69.3/119 - 6306 yards
39/41 - 80
No birdies, no doubles. Too many missed greens from good positions. Too many poor chips after missing those greens, leading to long par putts. Too many 3-putts(4). Missed two putts inside 3', one that was for birdie. It was my first time playing this course since it closed down last spring to rebuild and reseed the greens with a different type of grass. The greens are like concrete right now and don't take any spin. I'm a pretty high spin player on pitch shots and I didn't adjust well enough to not being able to get my shots to check up like I'm used to. No excuses. Gotta be better.
Another yukky round. Short game bit me again. My usually reliable putter wasn't. Driver not too bad though. Just all around mediocrity. 98(49/49)
Have basically completely flipped my bag over the last two weeks after playing mostly the same clubs for decades.
Have 4 rounds in 4 days starting tomorrow with a tourney, and I have 7 clubs in the bag I've never hit, 2 more I've only hit once on a simulator, and a driver I've played with for 2 rounds. Should be fun!!
Another mediocre round. Driver getting better but my short game is in the toilet. I've lost confidence with my chipping and it's killing me. Putter isn't bad but it also isn't bailing me out. Lipped out 3. Only 1 par. I tin cupped the creek hole. 101(50/51)
I don't believe I had a single gir. Ugh.
quit on a third left of a large bucket after first flails in several months
Annual spring golf trip. 69.5/132/6021 yards, moved up a set on the bonus nines.
Thursday: 47-47-94. Not real warm, windy, wet. Cart path only, which is never something you want to hear on a mountain course.
Friday: 42-48-90, 1 birdie. 43 on the bonus nine.
Saturday: 43-43-86. No birdies. 42 on the bonus nine.
Sunday: 41. 1 birdie.
Considering that I had not taken a single practice swing let alone hit any balls before stepping on the tee Thursday I was pretty happy. Had a couple tops on Thursday and Friday, two popups on the back on Friday - all of which were getting off balance. Didn't recur on Saturday or Sunday. Ball striking was otherwise solid. Nothing crooked other than 1 tee ball which I found.
Chipping was frustrating. Overall I chipped much better than usual but I had an annoying number of chunks.
Putting was pretty good. Felt good, made a decent number of putts. A few lip outs and close misses kept the birdie count down. It was weird that I was the only one in the group to make a birdie - the two I had were it. I would have expected low double digits for the group.
Probably won't play again for a few weeks given the weather forecast at home, but it was nice to get the season underway.
96(49/47) Typical round. Some really good shots and some really bad mishits. Just my usual inconsistency.
After ~1 yr. of working to move from a classic, "swinger" move, to a more modern, "hitter" swing - I've finally had a key epiphany around pelvis movement and put a few decent swings on tape.
It's pretty shocking just how different it feels moving from a front post to a centered / trail post swing. The club just kinda effortlessly fires through the zone.
I appear to be getting worse. 104(55/49) sloppy in every aspect of the game.
I was already stinking it up, so just for grins I tried to drive it over the dreaded creek. It was 216 to the front hedge and the wind was at my back. If I hit it perfect I think I could get it over.
I did not hit it perfect.
Took the new move out to the course to pressure test it. 2nd time swinging a driver since November, while trying a new move. Didn't bother keeping score, but after a horrendous front nine with several lost balls off the driver - I added more active ulnar and a couple of birds and several very makable birdie looks which turned into a several of pars on the back.
There were a handful of crispy iron shots and wedges where everything came together - so progress.

when experiencing the events of pleasing clubhead contact
how would you initially describe your triggering swing thought and also when the club head gets to the top right before the point of transition
is it not or yes yet a rusty unsupinated left wrist bow somehow arsed right arrow lawn dart or snap dragon art fuzzily tatooed to the point drawn when damn baby your club may be eventually foreheaded toward ob or the gym momentum
only ask to understand how close before hey i only push yes when asked on the blank slate fomulaic moment when your hands effortlessly drop into the magic slot
have you ever felt left wristed uncuffed while hitting the ball almost from somewhere behind yourself
or is it more of course a bunch of visa-viable things apt fore or aft salad flipping around your face somewhere around the circumstantial point of impact

Yes
me too!
that was last weekend, yesterday bought another small after plowing through a large, and went again this morning for another large and some short game stuff.
think i'm finding something somewhat repeatable with my new stronger grip and trying to suppinate the left wrist on the way down to quit the flips and fix that obscenly wide open club face from the end of last season. the snap hooks are slowly morphing into high draws and the only miss right is a straight block.

The last year for me has been working to never see anything curve left.
I actually put this document together for a friend I've been trying to help. It links some recent swings with key mistakes (too much weight shift) and a couple good ones (pelvis into quad 4 with twist and hard ulnar - lmao - that's my actual swing thought).
If anyone is interested:
109(57/52) I continue to get progressively worse. I have no clue why. For a while I was making consistent contact, albeit not always straight. But that has disappeared. I'm just lost.
I haven't been able to get to the range to work on anything but hopefully that changes soon.
Got to the range yesterday and hit everything quite well.
Today's round was a bit better. Driver was really good. Hooked two but didn't push a single one right. Feeling good about that right now. Not so much irons. I still have a grip issue and it's in my head. I look at my hands with the club face open and it just doesn't seem right to me. It's like something in my brain is pushing my grip. It's really weird. I was able to fix it on the range but it came back to haunt me today on the course. At least I know what the issue is. Anyways, iron play was not ideal.
Given all that, my short game killed me today. 98(48/50) Anything from 20 - 50 yards was a total disaster. I'm either topping it, blading it, or mishitting way way way right. Not sure exactly what I'm doing wrong but I'll work on it. My putting wasn't great but it didn't really hurt me too much, although I had an eagle putt that turned into a par. Ugh.

Adam Scott has a left hand grip setting routine that might help set your mind at ease. There are a zillion videos on it if interested.
I played my 3rd round in 6 months today. Shot an awful 88 at a tough track. Lots of penalty strokes with the driver and burned edges with the flat stick. To be expected as I've not hit the driver at all (other than the three rounds).
When I left, the local private highschool kids were warming up for a match on the range and WOW! The swings on those kids were unbelievable. Absolute smash fest stripe show - and it wasn't just one. There were several with D1 ready moves.
Narrowly a month away from season start. Very jealous of all the winter rounds you guys have been posting.
I have had a coach and indoor practice time at GolfTec for 4 winters now. Best thing I ever committed to for my game. Beyond the improvement itself it is just nice to be in playing shape and not be fighting through things for 1-2 months at the start of the season.
