USA Goes to War Against Iran
Time for a dedicated thread to the war.
How long will it last and what will be the probable outcome?
Apparently the Iranians presented the President with a very nice gift today. It sounds like Iran is ready to bend the knee.
Closing the Strait obviously affects China a lot more than the US but Iran isn't going to want that.
They might want money, though:
A shipping firm paid Iran $2 million to secure the safe transit of one of its ships through the Strait of Hormuz, according to a report, as Tehran moves towards a βselectiveβ blockade of the waterway.
Lloydβs List said Tehran was considering allowing passage for some ships unaligned to the US or Israel, opening a potential rift between Washington and other countries.
I think the idea of putting those 82nd Airborne troops in-theatre is to pose a potential threat to seize the Kharg Island oil terminal, for reasons of negotiation. But itβs Trump, so only the great prophet Houdafuq knows.
Looks like Santa is coming for Trump-Iran is giving the US a big present-US will have control of the straight or Hormuz-Iran will stop any nuclear development-Plus other party favors yet to be announcedIn other words, anything less than an unconditional surrender and a complete opening of the strait tomorrow will be a let down. In a normal world one would temper expectations an
When do we find out what the presents or gifts that Trump is getting are? I know Iran supposedly just rejected Trump's peace proposal, but surely the promised gifts and presents won't be impacted.
I'm sure you must have said that. My good friend LandOLakes would never in a million years make a false accusation.
I was saying earlier that I see this ending sooner rather than later, in that I didn't think anything like a full-scale ground invasion as with Iraq was in the cards. Still don't. But I always thought going after the uranium or Iran's underground missile cities, especially along the Strait, would require some boots on the ground. So I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that he's not a grad of Victor's Rules for Radicals school.

Who the hell knows but the 82nd Airborne are the firefighters of military. I remember checking Polymarket if there was a boots on the ground bet (didn't see one) but this always seemed like pretty much a guarantee.
If they start sending in the Armored Brigade then that's when the death toll reaches levels that people didn't think would be possible.

Yeah that's right up their alley. But then again, with the MEU comes Recon and SEALs. Idk, but considering the circumstances a big airdrop carries some pretty big risks. Either way, huge exposure right now considering how close the island is to the mainland.
I could be misunderstanding something, but I don't understand the benefit of seizing Kharg Island. If the goal is to stop Iranian oil flows as a bargaining chip they could simply begin stopping the oil tankers that they are currently allowing through.

Trump has no plan and never did have a plan. Nothing he ever does makes sense to sensible people.
They might want money, though:
I read they're charging 2mil Yuan, not $

They need Iranian oil on the open market to keep prices low which is why they eliminated sanctions on it. Right now ships that the Iranians allow are still passing and if the US put a stop to this then oil would go a lot higher.

I get that, although I don't agree with the policy. But either way what is the benefit of taking Kharg Island?
stopping iran from funding its terror regime with oil sales? but realistically its the leverage to open the strait. The oil would still find a home iran would just get less money
This feels like the most obvious dead cat bounce in the stock market you could muster up. Like after the oil and defense rip, everything is pretty much maxed out.

They have no clue what they're doing
Trump walked into a buzzsaw
There is no easy way out
To "win" he would have to wipe Iran off the map (genocide), suffer heavy losses militarily, and at exorbitant $$$ cost
Otherwise it's an embarrassing loss in addition to whatever concessions the US now has to make + the damage done to foreign relations from insulting all of NATO and pissing off anyone in the Middle East that was friendly with the US prior to this...
And that's assuming Iran relinquishes control of the Strait of Hormuz. Trump can bluster all he wants, they can keep that closed indefinitely if they really want to play "chicken" with the US and rest of world (their citizenry into the meat grinder vs global energy stability, American wallets/portfolios, up in arms when a mere single digit # of soldiers die)
The window closed for war with Iran. Maybe 10 or 20 years ago they could have done it but cheap drones and accurate missiles are a great leveler and powerful countries are going to find it harder and harder to pick on the less powerful going forward.
People in some forums I'm in, are saying Iran wasn't developing Nuclear capabilities. That is obviously not true. We can tell from the reported places that Trump is striking and Israel. I know people hate Trump, but lies aren't truths because you don't like his politics.
