Maybe Resorts World can partner with Kalshi so we can bet Red/Black flops?

Job listing from 6 days ago requiring that dealer applicants have the “ability to deal all poker derivative games.” And the same listing says applicants only need to know how to deal 2 out of the 5 house backed games.

That’s a good sign for poker here opening in March right?

Assume that means the table games - three card, four card, mississippi stud etc

That is 100% a listing for table games dealers, not poker. They're referring to Ultimate Texas Holdem, 3 Card Poker, Mississippi Stud, and other games that emulate poker.

I’m not 100% if that’s just “pokers carnival games or meant to include poker.

But either way it’s progress, I believe the first dealer school was only for blackjack and baccarat. Also good to confirm we already assumed, they’re gonna need to hire some seasoned dealers as opposed to training a full new staff.

But, but, progress definitely doesn’t mean March. They almost definitely need to run a dealer school for some of the poker staff, and that’s 8-12 weeks, I genuinely can’t imagine them being read to open poker before June

I don’t think that job is only for ultimate and 3 card type games, that could be for NL hold em etc. but yea that means if they just posted that now march out the window, june/july the earliest possible

I am going to NYC in June, I will be *stunned* if poker is live by then....

Given how slow everything else has been, and no ads for actual poker dealers (I do not think "derivative" is the word they'd use, they would say variants and explictly say "must include no limit holdem"), I expect you're looking at 2027.

That's a table games listing. No chance it has anything to do with poker.

If true still better than 2030+

Hi

I’ve had a good look through this thread but can’t find the info I’m looking for.

Going from UK to NYC at the end of May for the weekend on the way to LV and I’m looking at playing some low-stake holdem in the evenings. It doesn’t appear that Resorts World will be open by then for poker.

I’ve found links to two operations - NYC Poker Clubs and Fish Tank NYC Poker.

Of these, the former seems the most professional and organised and the Fish mob appear to operate from a fixed location in Manhattan.

I just want a relaxed, straight game with reasonable rake and no issues about payment if I win.

New Yorkers, please tell me, who should I be approaching? Where do locals go to for $1/2 or $1/3 NLHE?

Thx

They go to Vegas

The only games in NYC are underground games (or no rake club poker which is mainly tournaments), you're unlikely to get an answer on a public messageboard.

The answer is people who don't know about underground (or home games) go to Parx or AC or Wind Creek Bethlehem or even RW Catskills etc.

no such thing as a reasonable rake in NYC

enjoy the city and leave the poker for LV, although you will not have issues getting paid in any of those low stakes private clubs and the games will be way better than in Vegas on average

Take the Greyhound shuttle bus from Port Authority Bus Terminal to Atlantic City, and then an uber/lyft from the AC terminal to Borgata. 2.5 hours each way. Or rent a car and drive to Borgata or one of the Connecticut Casinos, also 2.5 hours each way. Don't go to Resorts Catskills, wasting your time. Good luck!

Thanks for the replies everyone.

If you're gonna rent a car just go to Parx. It's closer with way better action, dealers and floormen,

As others have said, reasonable rake and taking place in NYC are oxymorons. Most games have 10% up to $20-$25+. That's normal. Anything lower is considered to be somewhat reasonable

I actually know of some $10-$12 max games in LIC, Williamsburg and Bushwick, if you want a referral. They're in apartments all been running 5+ years

With the wealth that’s being splashed around the games are still very beatable with a high rake

They definitely can be beat if you're good enough, but I don't think I would term them as being "very beatable"

Please do NOT play NYC home games…

I implore everyone to not become part of that scene.

Between people going into debt, chance of robbery and most importantly keeping a fair and honest game one simply can not take the risk to play NYC underground games.

There are cheating devices that let you know the winning hand. There are nice dealers that can cool you.

Then there’s the whole letting the word out and getting robbed or worse.

But go on get that referral to the super soft games… couple thousand bucks def worth risking your livelihood.

Even a true home games… as soon as there’s enough money to make it worth it, it also makes it worth it for someone to rob or not square up.

So many things can go wrong..

I was there when straddle got raided, my friend was at a game when he got robbed at gun point… I went to the game a week after someone got accidentally shot…

It’s just dumb and desperate

Speaking of the straddle club...does anyone know what happened to "uncle Pete"? I used to run into him in AC from time to time but I haven't seen him since the pandemic.

^^^ Although I have never played underground games in NYC, I played many in LA and other cities and can confirm these are real and prevalent risks. I got confirmed cheated more times than I could count (it's too easy with technology these days.) I used to think there was maybe a 5% chance a game was rigged, now I believe closer to 50%. Also I have been slow payed, checks bounced, guns pulled, robberies, you name it. You're a sucker if you play and aren't on the inside.
