Lodge Card Club Raided / Grand Jury does not indict any Lodge employees
Came looking for some info on this, but I guess I will kick the thread off. Anyone there at the time or know more detail
I know Trump and Biden and Obama, they've liked online poker. American's don't realize how fast grey market sites could just be gone. I hope this doesn't bring any attention from Donald Trump.
Thread has devolved to wanna be lawyers pontificating.
Will be interesting to see how this turns out and if we ever find out what we do not know at this point.
I hate it for The Lodge as I started playing there when it first opened. Sad what has happened.
According to Highroll Poker tracker Polk was a losing player at most venues, except for the Lodge, where he was a massive winner. Did he have access to information in the same way Robbi Jade Lew was accused of having? Like Robbi Jade Lew he's social and not easily bluffable. I think both are top tier poker players and I think it would be a stretch to say that they were both che
who IS this freakin' moron?
Okay, Cheecher: You're accusing Polk of cheating at the Lodge? I think that's a bold (and unprovable) statement. Using relative win rates is a bit of a stretch. To each their own, though, and you are welcome to your opinion.
Robbi Jade Lew has been nothing but an ally to The Lodge despite Polk's beef with her.
He was sent by the Dunning-Kruger agency to fill the void. He seems qualified.

Not to throw a curveball, but I'm gonna. Same goes for weed. People think it's legal in some states. It's not. It's still federally illegal everywhere in the country, they just aren't enforcing it at the federal level, by choice. The second some prez gets it up his ass to enforce those laws, a multi-billion dispensary industry goes up on smoke (lol) overnight. The feds could raid any or all of these places, any time they want. Similar to what happened to us Black Friday, or BBB with the 90%, or on a smaller scale what some rando local boss-hog politician decides to do in Texas.

The weed industry is too big to fail at this point though. Any president that tried to shut down legal dispensaries would suffer huge political consequences.
Sports betting has ruined public sentiment around gambling. I don't think public opinion has ever been lower when it comes to online gambling or casinos in general.

This is not true. As someone who is in the cannabis industry, we operate everyday for the past 13+ years as if the other shoe is going to drop. Weather later this hour or in another 13 years it is a constant thought that you must plan for. All any president, director of the alphabet boys has to say is "NO MORE!!!" and the hammers will gets to nailing. They have our bank records and addresses and that will be that. If and when we are placed in front of the white wigs they will thank us for self reporting all the felonies we've been allowed to commit and the book will be thrown in our direction. The public truly won't care besides the fact of not having a on demand vice and will go back to how they got it before I.E. shady back alley Texas card rooms and cheated home games

Exactly my thinking. Most dispensary operators have to feel like the Sword of Damocles is waiting to drop, no matter the level of their current success, and hopefully these Texas cardrooms (and those in my state, Ohio, that operate in a very similar gray market environment) realize that and have taken some precautions. This couldn't have been a total shock.
To jacmrose's point on the weed thing, I think such a move by a president is unlikely and would indeed be politically damaging, but certainly not impossible. Get some weed-hating President in there who is a lame duck, and he/she may not care about the political consequences. For example, I could have seen someone like Mike Pence pulling the trigger. Had the left gotten their wish and successfully removed Trump and installed President Pence during the first term, the industry may well have been in great danger.
Unfortunately, there is a long list of attorneys who will charge $500 an hour, tell you what you want to hear, lose your case, and then shrug their shoulders afterward.
I have to wonder if that's what is happening here.
Sure, with the shitty legal advice you and floattheturn are providing in here for free why would anyone pay an actual expert for shitty legal assistance.

Ummm…no. They couldn’t even stop just CA back before they started “legalizing” it almost everywhere. It’s grown too big now and they will just have a steady flow of people filling whatever void they would leave with busting some of them since they can’t bust them all
Also while Federal law trumps State law the Feds are supposed to essentially mind their own business if whatever the state is doing isn’t super out of line/hurting people

Read that part again and try not to laugh out loud.
I belive my man is referring to the tenth amendment to the US Constitution which says powers not delegated to the federal government by the Constitution, nor prohibited to the states, are reserved for the states or the people, but you are correct that this isn't worth the hemp it is written on.
Glad you got a good laugh. Except that’s exactly what they’re doing in the example you gave
Well, they are doing that currently, until they don't. Any future administration can decide otherwise at any time; these gray market entities like poker rooms and dispensaries glide along at the pleasure of whatever government holds sway, and those governments can drop the hammer anytime they want (right, Lodge?).
That's really my only point here, not really looking for an endless debate. You don't agree, and that's cool.
Someone at TCH finally woke up. They have an employee making sure no one passes the front desk without a membership check. I could be wrong but I think all that is required to enter the facility is an active membership. The hourly fee starts when you are seated at a poker table. That's not the Sam Von Kennel model. I believe Sam's position was that the hourly is a fee to access the facilities, not a seat fee.

Of course they CAN. They have the power to do so if they so wish. The fact they don't do so is actually proof they don't abuse this power in an absolute sense, do they abuse it to some degree, of course they do. Who doesn't abuse their power at times?
Just saying they could do it, but they don't, until they do is like saying...
Well the world keeps spinning and hurling through space. It of course could stop at any moment, but for now we're good, until we're not
Ok....

I suspect that a big reason that the Texas poker market has thrived and survived until now is that one or more individuals with a .gov address were, uh "persuaded".
A few things I noticed:
- In 2018 Attorney General Ken Paxton was asked by a state legislator to issue an official opinion on the legality of social card clubs. A short time later TCH sued a San Antonio room, alleging that they weren't following the legal model. Paxton then said that he could not issue an opinion while litigation was pending. Of course, neither club has made any effort to settle or move the suit to trial. It remains pending and Paxton has not issued an opinion.
- Later in 2018 TCH organized a multi-venue tournament held in rooms in Austin, San Antonio and Houston. Part of the tournament fee was to go to an organization called Social Card Clubs of Texas for lobbying and advocacy. After all that money was raised SCCoT seems to have gone inactive.
- Attorney General Paxton appeared at a publicized event at TCH last year.
- Paxton is now running for Senate so he won't be AG after this year. TCH sent a rather desperate sounding email to members stating that it is really important who the next AG is for the future of Texas card rooms and urged members to vote for Aaron Reitz in the March primary. Reitz lost in the primary and the state moved on the Lodge soon after.
Paxton is also buddies with the TCH ownership and played there not to long ago.
