There's rumblings that Steve Cohen didn't really care about buying the Mets to own them as a baseball team. Instead, it was to position himself to get a casino in the area, and print money off of the NYC public.

edit.

There's rumblings that Miriam Adelson didn't really care about buying the Mavericks to own them as a basketbal team. Instead it was to position herself to get a casino in the area, and print money off of the DFW public.

And honestly, I wish it would have worked. As it stands. I have to drive to Oklahoma or fly to Vegas to give my money away.

BRAVES send a message for the division with a 9-0 victory over the Phillies last night.

Best run differential in MLB now, 1 run better than the Dodgers

The Mets are basically what happens when unlimited cash meets unlimited suck

Apologies to all who stan this clan

Have watched every Jays game this year. I wanted to do an update and 2+2 gives me a place to put it…lol. Will come back and revisit it in a month.

Jays update

Jays are struggling. They have had great starting pitching these last three games, but continue to hit awful, with little power, and are playing sloppy defence. Also, I have to acknowledge that unlike last year when the Jays were β€œrunning good” and playing above their expected win level, doing well in one-run games, doing well in extra inning games, etc. Well, they are both playing bad and running bad over the short sample size so far this year.

The single biggest problem is they are not scoring runs, have no power, and are playing awful defence.

Some thoughts

Pitching.

Prior to spring training, it seemed the Jays were loaded with starting pitching and that maybe a trade for a bat or moving one pitcher to the bullpen would be possible. But then the Gausman, Cease, Yesavage, Ponce, Lauer, Bieber, Scherzer, Berrios, Francis group turned into something much less.

Starting Pitching Right now
Gausman – doing great (no run support)
Cease – doing great (no run support)
Lauer – he’ll be fine (should be 5th starter)
Corbin – filling in as an inning eater (not ideal)
Scherzer. - Scherzer’s arm seems dead.. not sure why they keep putting him out there. Hopefully he recovers or they stop pitching him. One or the other

We need an effective Berrios and Yesavage back. Ponce is probably done for the year after just a few innings, and who knows how long Bieber will be out.. There seems to be very little info on Bieber’s situation.

Bullpen

The pen has not been that bad, but not great either. We sill need Yimi Garcia back and we need a long guy.

Varland, Fisher and have been good. Rogers has been ok. Fluharty should be fine. Little is gone, thank God.

Hoffman is unreliable. You want your closer to be good at two things (1) don’t walk people, and (2) don’t give up the long ball. Hoffman failing on both, despite a high strikeout rate.

Would not mind seeing Varland as 9th inning guy. Once Garcia is back, he could be 9th inning guy.

Defence

Defence has cost the Jays games. Very sloppy and not a typical Jay’s defence. Kirk is out and teams really seem to be capitalizing on the lack of experience behind the plate. Teams are running on our existing catchers and bunting a ton as well. We have had several fielding and throwing errors on bunts and excuse-me-squibbers.

Offence

Good news
Gimenez is doing really good, Varsho (coming around nice, but tweaked his knee?), Clement doing fine.
Sosa might be a good bat for the Jays. Hope so….

Below expectations
Vladdy has a great average, but no slugging. Poor launch angle and he is in chasing/pulling mode again. Just needs to get in sync again.

If they were healthy and not on IL, we could add Springer, Barger and Kirk in here as hitting below expectations.

Okamoto – Can he hit MLB pitching? He’s better get on track soon, or we are likely to see Clement at 3rd and Sosa at 2nd.

These utility players like Lukes, Straw, Schneider and not-quite-ready Sanchez are just not cutting it based on the number of innings they are playing and the spots they are forced into. These are situation players.

Still a huge fan!!!!

If the message was that Taijuan Walker sucks, then I think the division already knew that.

The Phillies aren't very good right now, but aside from Taijuan their pitching has a ridiculously high BABIP, so a bit unlucky at the moment.

But they aren't hitting well, which doesn't help.

I only watched until the Flyers game started, but much of the same for the Phillies. They can't hit. SΓ‘nchez missed by inches (to the tune of 3 challenges in the same inning), a dribbler, and a bloop hit. He pitched well.

Corbin Carroll ❤️

I don't think there is anyone on your roster I'd trade Carroll for. Though same could be said for most MLB teams. He pretty awesome.

rip timmy trumpet and rip enter sandmanwe're in the reaper era now

Miller is going to be nearly untouchable as long as he is sitting 102-103 with his four seamer. That sort of velocity from a guy that size is right on the outer edge of what major league hitters can handle. Because the velocity is so extreme, hitters basically have to sit dead red in order to avoid getting blown away. And when you are selling out to catch velocity, it seriously compromises your ability to control the strike zone on sliders with 15 mph velo differential.

If Miller lost even 3-4 mph of velocity, I think his effectiveness would drop quite a bit. He doesn't actually locate the ball that well. He loses his slider up in the zone fairly often, and he is just as like to split the plate with his fastball as he is to catch a corner. But it just doesn't matter when he is throwing this hard.

Aroldis in his prime was very similar.

Myles Straw has been great so far this year. Schneider seems to hit fine. And I think Sanchez and Okamoto will be fine.

The infield/pitcher defence has been really bad outside of GimΓ©nez and Clement. And having 3 all star level everyday players down as well as 2 starters we expect to be reliable is just too much for this team to overcome. Not only are they 7-13, but the Jays had an easy schedule to start the year. It all looks quite grim. And after Hoffman blew game 7 of the WS, it's even harder to watch him blow leads now.

by Carnivore m

Myles Straw has been great so far this year.

In 23 ABs, which doesn't mean anything.

He has a career OPS of .636 in more than 2000 ABs. I think we can safely say that he is a not a good hitter.

He's fast. Maybe second to the Rays guy? Mcgoogle is a solid sign for the Tigers. What is 18 mil a year for a shortstop leadoff big leaguer?

Yes. He's fast. You probably would get 25 SBs out of him if you gave him full time ABs. And he's good defensively. That's why he is always on a roster. And if you gave him full time ABs, he would hit .250 with 3 HRs for an entire year, which is why he never gets full time ABs.

Mcgoogle is a good one. I do enjoy how they have Vierling, McGoingle, and Dingler. Pretty solid for all-team somewhat suggestive names.

I keep forgetting to bet the Mariners when the Rangers play there. They just dropped 2 of 3 there on their most recent road trip.

The Texas Rangers have a record of 11–39 in their last 50 road games against the Seattle Mariners as of April 20, 2026.

This stretch of 50 games dates back to August 2020 and reflects significant struggles for the Rangers at T-Mobile Park

As I post this, 9 of the top 10 teams with the highest winning percentage are in the NL. I don’t recall ever seeing the standings being this imbalanced before.

will the Mets ever win again?
they're -175 ML vs Twins (+150) tomorrow

I wouldn't take the Mets minus odds against the Savannah Bananas right now.
