I think it's called adverse possession.

This particular piece of property lies between our driveways, is low-lying, and becomes flooded in less than heavy rain as it drains water from my property and beyond to a lake lying behind our two properties. It has little to no potential for anything else AFAIK.

I would not be at all surprised if that isn't what the neighbor behind me had in mind when he "staked" out his alleged property line as he had tried to buy some of my property adjacent to his years ago. However, he found another area on his property for what he claimed he wanted additional property for, so who knows? Now that he's passed on, I'm probably the weird old guy in the neighborhood!

eta: and I'm the weird old guy with the slow pony.

Guy across the street from me can't stand for dirt to touch his house at all so he has huge Gravel pits encircling like a moat.

I might be A weird old guy around here but I will never be THE weird old guy.

Adverse possession? Maybe!

It requires a lot more than mowing some grass.

bow to my stern and immediatly west leaf blowing neighbor compuslevly prunes his outdoor back acre shorn tighter toward ground than fine brazilian waxing

imagine daily butter sponsors ponder either standing pat or bettering both homes and gardens, perhaps in an august edition, being keen on identifying tall firs, japanese maple, rhodies and azalea planted in bark mulch beds defined by surrounding ponds of sweeping lush green lawn somehow grown in perpetual shade

(a hi-res secret: he annually reseeds bald spots with ample helping chemicals and heavily waters around five hundred square feet of the relayed back yard sod every season for vewing by his eyes only perched on the back cigar porch)

meanwhile entire house surrounded by hardscape allowing him reason to perpetually hocky three same pine needles back and forth drowning out sounds from his wife

Not like asking permission, but maybe talking through that stupid little strip he's leaving between the fences.

Do you do any gardening? I would frame that out on 3 sides maybe 2.5' high and make it a compost pile

I am consdering some kind of brush pile. I don't think I'll ever put in the effort for compost though. Directly on the other side of my fence from that strip I have a little brush pile going for the possums, raccoons, birds, or whatever want to use it for sleeping or hiding.

How about a couple of bathroom progress pics? Tile guy should finish tomorrow and the whole thing done at the end of the week, maybe beginning few days of next week.

It's 4/20 - perfect day to inaugurate The Inter Saepes Smoke Spot

lookin good mark

Yeah, looks nice mark.

Yep. Looks great.

it's going to feel so good to have everything new.
are you putting a door in the shower opening or leave it open?

Leaving it open for now. I really didn't want any glass involved. I hate the idea of having to squeegee the glass every time I shower. We'll see how much water splatters and where and how much I hate that, haha.

totally get it
and squeegeeing glass takes two seconds once you find a groove

Plus you get to say, "squeegee" to yourself, which is always fun.

Have you tried not giving a ****? I've squeed my last gee. Robot squeegee would work.

Card poker is not just a game—it’s a thrilling mix of strategy, psychology, and calculated risk that has fascinated

for centuries. At its core, poker is a card game where players wager on the strength of their hands, competing either against each other or against the house depending on the variant. The beauty of poker lies in its simplicity at the surface and complexity underneath. You can learn the basics in minutes, but mastering it can take years.

Imagine sitting at a table, cards in hand, trying to read your opponents while hiding your own intentions. That tension, that mental chess match, is what makes poker so addictive. Whether you’re playing casually with friends or entering high-stakes tournaments, every decision matters. From folding weak hands to going all-in with confidence, poker constantly tests your judgment.

Poker also stands out because it combines elements of luck and skill. You might get a bad hand, but how you play it can still turn the tide. This dynamic keeps players coming back, always chasing that perfect balance between risk and reward.

Why Poker Remains Popular Worldwide

Poker’s global appeal is nothing short of massive. In fact, recent data shows that poker has over 100 million active players worldwide, making it one of the most competitive card games on the planet . That’s not just a statistic—it’s proof of how deeply embedded poker is in global culture.

One major reason for its popularity is accessibility. You can play poker anywhere—at home, in casinos, or online. With the rise of mobile gaming, poker has become even more widespread. By 2025, around 70–80% of players were using mobile devices to play poker, showing a clear shift toward digital platforms .

Another factor is the excitement of competition. Poker isn’t just about cards; it’s about outsmarting real people. Every game is different because every opponent is different. Add in the possibility of winning money, and you’ve got a game that’s both entertaining and rewarding.

The History of Card Poker
Origins of Poker

Poker didn’t just appear overnight—it evolved over centuries, influenced by various card games from around the world. Historians believe poker’s roots trace back to a mix of European games like the French “Poque” and the German “Pochen.” These early games introduced the concept of betting and bluffing, which remain central to poker today.

As poker traveled to North America in the 19th century, it began to take its modern shape. Riverboats on the Mississippi became hotspots for poker games, where gamblers and adventurers gathered to test their luck and skill. These early versions used a smaller deck, but the essence of poker was already there—betting, strategy, and the thrill of competition.

Over time, poker evolved into multiple variations, each adding new layers of complexity. The introduction of the standard 52-card deck expanded the possibilities, making the game more dynamic and unpredictable.

Evolution into Modern Poker

Fast forward to today, and poker has transformed into a global phenomenon. The introduction of televised tournaments in the early 2000s brought poker into millions of homes, turning players into celebrities and inspiring a new generation of enthusiasts.

The digital revolution took things even further. Online poker platforms allowed players to compete with others from around the world without leaving their homes. According to industry reports, the poker market is expected to reach over $11.4 billion by 2030, highlighting its continued growth .

Modern poker is now a blend of tradition and technology. From live tournaments to mobile apps, the game continues to evolve while maintaining its core appeal.

Types of Card Poker Games
Texas Hold’em

If poker had a superstar, it would be Texas Hold’em. Often called the “Cadillac of poker,” this variant is the most popular and widely played version of the game. Each player receives two private cards, while five community cards are placed on the table. The goal? Create the best five-card hand using any combination of the seven cards available.

What makes Texas Hold’em so exciting is its balance of simplicity and depth. The rules are easy to learn, but the strategies can be incredibly complex. It’s a game where beginners can compete, but experienced players often dominate through skill and strategy.

Omaha Poker

Omaha poker is similar to Texas Hold’em but with a twist. Players receive four cards instead of two, and they must use exactly two of them along with three community cards. This creates more possible combinations and often leads to stronger hands.

Because of this, Omaha is considered more action-packed and unpredictable. It’s a favorite among players who enjoy fast-paced games with bigger pots.

Three Card Poker

Three Card Poker is a simpler, faster version often found in casinos. Instead of competing against other players, you play against the dealer using just three cards. The game is easy to learn and quick to play, making it popular among beginners.

Despite its simplicity, strategy still plays a role. Knowing when to bet or fold can significantly impact your chances of winning.

Basic Rules of Card Poker
Understanding the Deck and Players

Poker typically uses a standard 52-card deck, with players seated around a table. Each player receives cards depending on the game type, and betting rounds occur throughout the hand. The goal is simple: win chips by either having the best hand or convincing others to fold.

Hand Rankings Explained

Poker hand rankings determine the winner. From highest to lowest, they include:

Royal Flush
Straight Flush
Four of a Kind
Full House
Flush
Straight
Three of a Kind
Two Pair
One Pair
High Card

Understanding these rankings is crucial because every decision you make depends on the strength of your hand.

How to Play Poker Step-by-Step
Betting Rounds Explained

Poker involves multiple betting rounds, where players can check, bet, raise, or fold. These rounds create opportunities for strategy and bluffing. Knowing when to act aggressively or cautiously is key to success.

Winning a Hand

A player wins by either having the best hand at showdown or forcing all other players to fold. This dual path to victory is what makes poker so strategic.

Poker Strategy for Beginners
Starting Hand Selection

Not all hands are worth playing. Beginners often make the mistake of playing too many hands, which can lead to losses. Focus on strong starting hands and fold weaker ones.

Position Importance

Your position at the table affects your strategy. Acting later gives you more information about your opponents, allowing you to make better decisions.

Advanced Poker Strategies
Bluffing Techniques

Bluffing is the art of deception. It’s about making your opponents believe you have a stronger hand than you actually do. Successful bluffing requires timing, confidence, and an understanding of your opponents.

Reading Opponents

Poker is as much about people as it is about cards. Observing betting patterns, body language, and behavior can give you valuable insights into your opponents’ hands.

Online Poker vs Live Poker
Key Differences

Online poker is faster and more convenient, while live poker offers a social experience and physical tells. Each has its own advantages.

Market Trends in 2026

The poker industry is evolving rapidly. The global card game market is projected to reach $58.2 billion by 2030, driven largely by digital growth . Mobile gaming dominates, making poker more accessible than ever.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Many players lose not because of bad luck but because of poor decisions. Overplaying weak hands, chasing losses, and ignoring position are common pitfalls. Avoiding these mistakes can significantly improve your game.

Is Poker Skill or Luck?

Poker is a fascinating blend of both. Luck plays a role in the short term, but skill dominates in the long run. The best players consistently win because they make better decisions over time.

Conclusion

Card poker is more than just a game—it’s a journey into strategy, psychology, and calculated risk. Whether you’re playing for fun or aiming to become a professional, poker offers endless opportunities to learn and grow. With its global popularity, evolving technology, and deep strategic elements, poker continues to captivate players around the world.

I have glass shower doors, and after trying squeegees (agree a massive PITA) I've moved to Tilex Daily Shower spray. Actually works.

We got some coating on the inside of our shower glass and it makes the squeegee process painless. Still get the occasional water spots but they wipe off super easy. Well worth the couple hundred extra bucks.

Tile guys are grouting and will be finished today, so I should have a (mostly) finished product by the end of the week!

Bombs awaaaaaay!!!

promise this is not a spoof
the blue cap fume free easy off oven cleaner works wonders on shower glass and tile grout after spray and soaking for a couple hours
inconspicously test first but i've never found a problem

Tile guys are done but asked me not to walk on it til tomorrow. Guess they're used to dummies who don't know better than to walk on wet grout, lol. But here's a sneak peek from the door:
