The "LOLCANADA" thread...again

So what's new?

I've noticed the Liberals are now ahead in all major polls and Trudeau hasn't even started to campaign yet

are we actually ok with the libs getting a majority goverment with floor crossings? seems a lil fed up. im pretty ok with it because it will mean they won't have an excuse next election and their 14 reign of terror will end. but also like people talk alot about "mandates" we literally didn't vote for a liberal majority we voted for a liberal minority. 3 people changing partys w

I mean love it or hate it this is our system. It's totally valid, within that system. Also it was 5 crossings, and there have been 3 byelections so if the Canadian public in general was super opposed at least a subset of them could have blocked the majority then.

I used to like minority governments. But the simple reality is that the cons have turned simple committees whose job is to actually study policy and improve legislation into just endlessly publicity stunts and obstructionism. So hopefully the majority slightly improves the efficiency of the legislative process - most of what Carney is doing is within the bounds of reason so far. I'm not saying it is perfect or beyond critique, but it's not just wildly out there such that he is enacting a policy suite quite separate from his mandate.

ya i looked into the bi elections 2 of the 3 were in toronto.... and I think only one flipped which was enough not exactly the best example of how Canadians outside of toronto feel. ya no its normal and expected i agree just curious about feelings !! the feels > facts in modern day politics. I thought about it with all the talk of the liberals taking majority's in committees

actually thinking about it a bit more this is a wild thing to say. Only a single seat flipped in an election and it was in Toronto the other two were liberal strongholds and never losing and just stayed liberal. Idk it just feels weird man it was all the 5 floor crossings. The Terrebonne riding flipped by a single vote. 1 vote is currently deciding the majority vs minority lol.

Scarborough Southwest voted liberal since 1988

University—Rosedale freelands district has voted liberal everytime since its creation.

the third one was in qeubec and just another bloc voting trick to pick the one they prefer over themselves and one count had it won by a single vote

Those are two of the 3 districts we are talking about. There was no real chance to vote against it. all 3 districts have never voted conservative since the creation of the modern party and never will. all 3 were liberal in the harper era

All three INCREASED the liberal support which indicate voters were not widely displeased. And polls are strong, an election today would be a stronger majority. It isn’t just the five floor crossers, Carney convinced a lot of people.

Not a chance yes Canada needs the USA but the USA needs Canada . The ships are lined up for the oil heading to the west coast right now and its reported TNX is at full capacity. They need our potash and Uranium

Problem for the Nutlicks of the world is that they will never admit this but will continue to say things like ''why aren't Canadians buying our liquor'' while spitting on Canada.

The NDP made backroom deals and propped up the Liberal government for years while they waited for the next boogeyman like COVID to arrive. Then Canadians voted for the same party because elbows up! why would people care if backroom deals were done to get a majority? Failed country, but at least we have a new 200M spaceship launch pad.

The reality is Jagmeet got more policies put in place than Justin campaigned on . Uke will like to brag about childcare, dental but those were all because of Jagmeet black mailing the liberals

I saw the pic of that concrete pad . The failures of government bidding though I am sure a friend of Justin got rich

Does our friend from Quebec still post? I went to Montreal last week and the amount of tents I saw was shocking. I thought Ontario was bad but somehow Quebec is worse?

A little stability right now, even if the accompanying policy isn’t ideal, is probably the right chess move given current conditions.

Conservatives need to get a new leader though. PP is just unelectable. He lost a riding he’d won for over 20 years and had to “move” to a CON+50 seat to get back. I lived in that riding for a decade before moving out west. PP is not world leader material. Never has been.

Couldn't agree more. PP is clearly not it.

Childcare and dental care are VERY different. I agree that dental care is a (good) policy that the NDP did a (good) thing of forcing the liberal hand on. But childcare is completely wrong to put on this list. The 2021 election that Trudeau won had $10-a-day childcare front and center, and predates the confidence and supply agreement (which mentioned dental care not childcare). And all the reforms on funding for CCB etc go back all the way to the 2015 election. So no, it is wrong to try and take credit away from Trudeau for childcare and trying to give it to the NDP. Not that it really matters, good policy is good policy, but this is like the 8th time I've had to explain this to you and you just keep repeating the lie.

He's the one holding the bag though. If you are a top contender for next CPC leader looking to win in 2029, if you go up now in 2026 when Carney is firmly in his rather long honeymoon phase you risk just appearing like the loser poilievre appears to be. I think there is a real sense in the CPC that Poilievre is just holding the bag for now and the true next leader who has a shot at taking down Carney is a couple years away.

The other problem is that the conseratives don't really have someone like Mark Carney waiting in the wings to save them. Like their main attack dog that gets the most media attention after Poilievre is....****ing Andrew Scheer, who Canadians already rejected.

Danielle Smith

Not in a million years.

lmao shifty reminding everyone why he is the end boss for stupidity ITT.

Although a part of me would love that. You think centrist voters in Ontario and Quebec that are needed to win jump on Smith's bandwagon? That would be a great way of securing a liberal liberals in power to, uh, counts on fingers, 2033?

Not in a million years.

Ya, it'd be silly to elect the premiere of the province that is keeping Canada afloat to Prime Minister.

Ya, it'd be silly to elect a separatist who came up the ranks after a media career

There. Fixed the post for you.

From the guy that voted for Trudeau three times and Im sure David Eby multiple times

Someone needs to talk Rona Ambrose into the job

This isn't quite the flex you think of from someone that voted for Trudeau 2 times. Maybe the conservatives should have put forward someone like Mark Carney (or, for that matter, Mark Carney - some reflection on why he didn't join the conservatives given his center-right leanings may be in order) as opposed to the odious Andrew ****ing Scheer.

Jesus. She left federal politics in ****ing 2017 for those big private sector bucks. She was a shitty environment minister under Harper, I never got the calls many election cycles ago that she would be the "moderate" to save the CPC. So weird to see the calls still going on in 2026.

Danielle Smith

Maple Kristy Noem?

If that’s who they’re thinking about, they might as well stick with PP and watch him get waxed again.

Cancer has a higher approval rating across Canada than Danielle Smith does.

Nobody but literal r3tards aka shifty seriously thinks Smith is a legitimate candidate.

Harper implemented an industrial carbon tax?

It is true despite Harper's attacks on climate science, the party at the time was at least more performatively claiming it would do something on the industrial side. Sad that the anti-do-anything folks took over the party after that.

Nah… that’s not it. She’s repulsive enough and already too cozy with Republicans to ever be electable to a role like that. And the closer you get to the circus, the more people will assume you’re a clown.
