What'd You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)

I think this forum could use a BBV thread, so here it is.

placeholder for tomorrow's first round of the season. low expectations.

Some guy had a heart attack and died on the 9th hole yesterday. I guess that's as good a way as any to go.

a man of the cloth?

a man of the cloth?

i'd keep playing
i don't think the heavy stuff is going to come down for quite a while

Another up and down round. Driver was good for the most part, except for the two holes where it needs to be more than just good. Ugh. Putting wasn't bad but it wasn't good enough to help my score. Lots of 2 putts, not many 10'ish footers going in.

92(47/45) Had a stretch of 4 straight pars. I think that's a first. Six total. I just got into trouble on too many holes. A couple were just brain farts.

At least my swing felt better. My long wedges (75-110) have been really good. LOL, I hit one and lost track of the ball. I figured it was waaayyyy right. Didn't feel good. My father-in-law and I drove around right of the green and couldn't find it. Then he elbows me and says, "is that your ball?" Turns out it was about 10' from the pin on the green.

Stuck it to 15 feet on hole 1 and made par. One more par after that. 99.

Cart path only and mud. Hitting 2 extra clubs because the ball was going nowhere.

Not the most fun I've ever had but the alternative here is to wait another month if you require dry conditions.

enjoying those recent results bb and how you keep chasing <90 again

nate - nothing but a rust buster, and you have now played as many rounds this year as i have.

indeed Red. first round in 190 days.

look forward to the progress updates

Played at my local today was a monthly medal.

Front 9 +2
Back 9 +5

Green are terrible probs cost me about 3 or 4 shots. Finding it hard to actually put a decent 18 together. Can do a decent 9 just kind of struggle a bit on the back 9.

Played with this 18 handicapper tall young guy. Hole 6 is a 420 par, he had 80 left in. When he hit it off the tee was like a bullet. Wasn’t even that much wind about to help. Said if he practices a bit then no reason he couldn’t get down close to scratch just needs a bit of consistency as nothing really was super bad in his game. Probably just a bit of course management here and there.

46-43-89 (Par 36-35-71). No birdies, 4 double bogeys. 70.3/132/5927

First round in six weeks and it certainly looked that way to start. Ball striking improved after half a dozen rough holes. Chipping and pitching was mostly above average. Putting was generally decent.

Good round today +1 ... 3 Birdies 4 Bogeys.

The 4 Bogeys were on such easy holes.

- 7th Small Par 3 bladed a wedge ended up making a good 4 in the end.
- 9th Short Par 4, Very bad tee shot which was only a iron, Then was chasing Par from there. Ended up with a 5
- 15th Par 5, Like the easiest Par 5 in the world with a massive fairway somehow I hit my drive well started it left and it went left. Ended up have to hit a gap wedge to about 150 left in. Decent contact but pulled left in a bunker. Iffy stance and 2 putt for a 6.
- 18th Short Par 4 good tee shot chunked wedge missed the up and down ended up with a 5.

Birdies -
3rd... Just a well played Par 5.
11th... Good drive to the edge of the green and bumped and ran a 54° which isn't my go to shot but went to about 2 feet.
16th... Small Par 3 Hit a good wedge to 5 feet, Not that I saw it cause I just covered in dust from my divot 😃

On another note I can actually hit a 3 wood now rather than topping it 😃. I 'won' a Monkey headcover for coming dead last in this society comp we did. Thought it would fit on my driver but didn't, tried my rescue as I didn't carry a 3 wood but kept on falling off. So I put this really old 3 wood in just so the headcover could sit on it but might be the best thing that has happened. 3 wood below.

nice scoring!

My kingdom for a putter!

Lipped out 2 from about 15 feet. Outright missed 7 from inside of 6 feet.

Everything else was ok, no lost balls. Driver pretty good. But, oh, that damn putter. Ended up with 91(47/44). What could have been.

Of course, the golf gods had to poke me one more time before I got off the course. Drained a 30 footer with 4 foot of break on 18. Go figure.

👍

4/26/26
Granite Falls South
Par 72 - 69.1/116 - 6401 yards
43/47 - 90

4 pars, 2 doubles, 1 triple. Let's just say I'm not having much fun right now. Might be time for a break.

Love that you're considering taking a break and my season hasn't started.

In all seriousness, sometimes just a week away from touching a club is a great thing.

Club is opening for men and women's shotgun openers on the weekend with the full open next Monday. Cannot wait.

89(46/43) Had a couple of blowup holes (quadruple and triple) but I generally played OK (for me). I'm REALLY swinging the club well now. It feels so natural and effortless. I hope this feeling holds up. The first blowup hole was just hitting a wedge much farther than I thought I could hit it and with a bad chip, it sort of snowballed. The triple was on 18 when I pushed my drive right and lost a ball. The only bad drive of the day. I missed a few really makeable putts. All in all, it felt pretty good.

Humor me while I rant a little.

I play with my father-in-law twice a week. He's a decent golfer but he's never met a lie he can't fluff or kick somewhere. Add some gratuitous gimmes on the green and he scores in the low 80s usually. I will say he's a really good putter, though.

Anyways, he seems to go out of his way to be annoyed. By everything. He can hear a mosquito from 3 miles away. If he just barely hears someone talking, even 100 feet away very low, he stops and gives them a stare. Don't be anywhere in his line of sight on the green. Anyone playing music drives him insane. If he mishits, it's the "damn music. Nobody should be playing music on a golf course!" Oh, and the tractors that the greenskeepers drive make him go ballistic. They are everywhere, too. No avoiding them.

Don't get me started on the clubs rattling in the bag while driving the cart that we constantly have to stop and reposition. Or the snot rag that sits on the seat between us. Or......

Today he was so over the top I'm ready to not play with him again. He played horribly and bitched and moaned the whole time about talking and music and hurrying before the music guy, who was walking, got too close. On top of that he blamed the group behind us that was waiting on us (only on 2 holes) for "making him hurry."

There's a bunch of regulars on the course I play and I've played with almost all of them. There's one guy that's really annoying, but FIL is right behind him. One of the worst to play with.

I mean, I get it. You should be respectful and try to be quiet when someone is setting up, but he takes it to another level.

Some of this is me. You could drop plate of dishes next to me during my backswing and I wouldn't hear it. Nothing bothers me at all. I guess I'm not being very empathetic but he really is over the top.

Thank you for your time. I just needed to vent. He's my father-in-law so I'm pretty much locked in with him unless I want to create family drama I don't need. Although, my wife thinks he's a butthead and would support me 100% if I quit playing with him.

/rant

i feel your pain biggieb, although shooting your second best score ever while riding shotgun with his snot rag is quite an accoomplishment. wonder if he's costing you a couple of strokes you aren't even aware of.

based on your lack of mentioning three putts, sounds like your lag putting has improved, and i'd sure rather have a couple of blow up holes than suck on every one of them

Started out really bad. Swing wasn't there at all. But managed pars on 7,8,and 9 so salvaged a 48 on the front. 45 on the back, for a 93. Just not my best effort. I guess I should be happy with that but nothing really felt great.

Chipping/pitching from 10 to 50 yards has been really challenging. Worst part of my game. Just need to put in the hours.

On th f-i-l front, we got paired with an attractive lady so he was on his best behavior.

Played in a 4-man Shamble event yesterday(everybody goes to the best tee shot and you play your own ball in from there). Best ball striking day I've had in 10+ rounds. I don't remember what we shot, something like -5 with a bogey on the card, but I had an eagle and 2 birdies myself so that was fun. Maybe I'll keep this Sunday's tee time after all!

43-48-91. No birdies, 5 double bogeys, 1 triple. 68.9/119/6062 yards. Diamond Springs GC, Hamilton MI.

It can be spring any time now. A brisk 41 degrees when we teed off, I don't think it hit 50. Mostly sunny and not much wind so it was fine, but I'd like to not wear four layers thanks.

Short game was fantastic on the front, other than the two double bogeys that happened when I hit it into bunkers. Never did get that sorted. About halfway through the back everything just fell apart. It was fairly entertaining, though, to have three holes in a row where I had a short club in my hand and 70-100 yards to the green, only to absolutely nuke low lasers 20 yards over each time.

I need to remember to take out my 58 and put the 56 full face back in.

45-40-85 to open the season. 70.2/124/6481 yards.

One double, rest bogeys or pars. Short game expectedly was pretty rusty, putting was a zero, and short irons felt a bit clanky but I did hit some good ones later on. Long game felt solid after a winters worth of practice. Felt great to be out there.

predict next round ten strokes better
