I just recently rejoined Netflix and was pleased to see they have added a "Watch Instantly" feature where you can stream

I'm currently rewatching A Series of Unfortunate Events on Netflix

Neil Patrick Harris makes a brilliant Count Olaf

by POGcrazy94

Finally got round to watching the final season of A Series of Unfortunate Events, anyone else like it? I loved it, Neil Patrick Harris as Olaf is brilliant.

But to be fair I grew up reading the books so I was always going to love it lol

Ha was sure I had mentioned it before in this thread, 7 years ago is crazy

by parisron

I don't know. lol

The new James Bond is going to be a 6'5 Australian guy?

Just give it to Hardy.

Just give it to Hardy.

Really? Don't see it at all.

Moreover, I think time has passed Bond by entirely. It's an unneeded franchise, long past expiration.

I love Tom Hardy, but he is too old, and too prone to extreme eccentricity in his acting choices to be a good fit for Bond.

I really figured they were killing Bond off in that last Craig one. Sure felt like the entire series was ending!

IMO Craig got too sensitive with him. Bond needs to be a charming savage

When Omega Watch signed actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson, I figured he was in a reasonable position to be the next Bond. But I think the internal debates are whether to go mid-age like Aaron Taylor-Johnson 35 years old or go younger. Jacob Elordi, who is 28 years old is about 20% younger. This is the do they go with an old Pope as a transitional Pope or an young Pope debate.

**** it, go very old Pope for one film and pick 72 year old Pierce Brosnan to return as Bond looking back on his days in the Royal Navy as he transitioned into intelligence picking one of the younger choices like Elorbi or someone even younger as the new multi-film James Bond.

This is a very hot take. Daniel Craig is almost universally regarded as the least cuddly Bond ever.

Anyone watching the new one-off episode of The Punisher on Disney? The sound is all ****ed up, all voices coming lightly from my rear speakers and I can barely hear it. Anyone else have this issue?

Definitely he wasn’t cuddly but way too much brooding sensitivity and pain etc about his woman. I thought the final film was only a little short of an abomination

all good on my end

Untold UK: Jamie Vardy
Documentary about football/soccer player Jamie Vardy. Rather niche, but I highly recommend it, especially to any sports fan.

He's a great character and has one of the craziest story's in sport.

Eh. That didn't bother me.

The main way that Daniel Craig differed from previous Bonds is that he came across as perpetually angry. Sean Connery played Bond as if being an agent in MI6 was the greatest job in the world. Daniel Craig played Bond as if being an agent in MI6 was a form of purgatory.

Worst ex ever…Wade Wilson…Netflix.

This guy had over 3700 women try to contact him in prison. He had several as girlfriends. What’s the psychology here regarding these women wanting to be with one of the most horrible people ever? Fantasy? Projection? The fact that he is essentially unattainable?

Speaking of confinement ...

First three episodes S02 of Rivals out on Disney+.

The "bad boy" attraction (here taken to the millionth power, obviously) can be a function of rough treatment from the father, an allure for the dangerous, the idea he would "be on my side with his violence and be a good protector, " the close relationship between aggression and sex, and probably a lot of other things. In extreme cases like this where the guy doesn't seem particularly gorgeous or erotic looking, the "acting out" piece can be in play: like, "Watch me go for the most outrageous thing on earth" type thing. That's not much different than getting 20 tattoos on your face, the sheer outrageousness of it is a game of the pseudo-rebel.

That's some of it anyway.

Is God Is

I thought it was pretty good. Who doesn't like a revenge flick? Two dread-sporting teenage girls seek revenge on a monster father years after the fact. One of them turned sociopath under the abuse, the other went inward and withdrawn. It's captured pretty well. I always love it when a film can capture some of the sociopath thing with some verisimilitude.

They are commissioned by their dying mother to seek revenge. And off they go on a cross country drive like only two teenage girls can do. Adolescent party time. The girls are twins and have a mystical type connection. New to the killing business, the sociopaths weapon of choice is a rock-in-a-sock. Oh, as a small girl, like elementary school age, when other students bullied her sister (who had a badly burned face), she blithely settled it with a baseball bat.

Tomatoes is up in the 90s wid it. Charles Bronson isn't the only worthy vigilante around!

Dutton Ranch is pretty good after the first 2.

Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed on apple is good after 2, short 30 min. episodes.

The Boroughs on Netflix is good after 3, it's slow to start and gets better.

Wow the Euphoria series penultimate episode at 80 minutes, crazy as hell. and finale next week at 93 minutes.

I mean the story line is ridiculous this season, but it's been a fun ride. lol

I watched southland recently and it was decent enough , it did go down a bit in series 4 and 5 but the cliffhanger was a f**cker cos it was cancelled

Watching Southland based entirely on this forums rec. Through about 6 episodes. As a Boondocks fan, I was pleasantly surprised to find that Regina King is in it. Not bad so far - though certainly a different category than something like The Wire. I'm interested to see how the tone changes in S2.

Finished Southland - its 'good enough' to hold your interest but definitely a notch or two below the all-time great cop shows

I checked out a midnight showing of Obsession mostly because of hearing about all the praise, surprise success and high ratings. It didn't do it at all for me. It really dragged and overplayed some stuff bogusly ad nauseum. I was giving it a 4 out of 10, and doing that generously.

There was one scene that really made me jump, even in spite of the fact that it was totally telegraphed. But it was so jarring it was like actually being inside of a violent car crash or something. So I jumped. I'm sure most everybody did.

It's not my genre at all so maybe that is part of my bad rating of it. Maybe it is a Gen Z cult classic in the making or something accounting for the mad ticket sales.

i gave it a 7/10 and felt it really took you on a ride

is the telegraphed scene ...

Spoiler
Show

where the spurned potential gf gets her face bashed in on the steering wheel? if so, yeah that was so predictable and hurt the movie's rating for me

it's been a smashing financial success

budget: 750k

box office (thus far): $225m

cool fact here:

In its third weekend, the film made $27.4 million, becoming the first wide release outside of the Christmas season since E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982) to increase its earnings for three consecutive weekends

i'm looking forward to the 26-year-old director's/writer's next project which will star Aaron Paul
