But maybe they are good actors and are, I dunno.
Aside from all the adultery stuff, which Trump seems to have irreversibly shifted the Overton Window on, it seems moving forward the Dem Party in its current iteration has signaled they are perfectly fine with Nazism, antisemitism, and conspiracy theories. Which at this point they have to be as these are values and beliefs a significant part of their voters hold; namely minorities (especially Muslims) and deeply antisemitic progressives.

So what happened is that a family from the DRC applied for asylum in 2022, was here for 3 years awaiting verdict, which was ultimately denied in 2025. Then they tried to cross into Canada, were rejected by Canada, and sent to Dilley. And have all been released from Dilley already except for a 19 year old.
The article doesn't state, but I presume the mother and children were released because they are minors, but the 19 year old had to stay because they aren't. And I also assume the fact they are still here is because they are going through some sort of appeal process, and they are free to go back to DRC anytime.
This is the Trump administration, so one can assume a certain level of callousness and unprofessionality. But I doubt what is going on as far as detaining families applying for asylum, set to be deported, going through appeals, etc. is much different than what has been going on the last 50 years.
And I suspect our justice system is actually. much more lenient than the rest of the Western world, because generally we are. Remember, part of the story is Canada not even allowing this family in at all. I suspect in most Western nations this entire family would have been sent back to DRC years ago without given any option. In this case, it seems the 19 year old is choosing to stay at Dilley instead while presumably going through legal options (while the rest of the family has already been released in the US).
