This current slot sun run is unsustainable, and in any case profits from slots are going to disappear for everyeone some day; it's all happened before. As a reg in this thread, you know about the first AP slot era at the turn of the century, and how it ended.
Meanwhile, I'm using the slot proceeds to buy time for me to study and play poker and get better at it for the time when I'll have to turn to it for most or all of my income.

I want to take this opportunity to express my admiration for Vietnamese and Vietnamese-American poker players. As a population, they possess a lot of knowledge, heart and gamble.

I feel like it’s coincided with him quitting video games. Which seemed more detrimental to SI getting hours in than the drinking.

This grind is unprecedented for me; I've never come close to these hours before. A while back I tracked total hours and results for a while, but I would take most days off, and all that was sort of hidden in the totals, which would increase whenever I played, and no one called me out on my long periods of inactivity.
Almost no one. Thank you, fid! Those remonstrances did have an effect...eventually.
Why the change? I've written about it a few times already, but I will write it one more time: weekly totals have been a revelation.
For anyone with a PB&G thread who is having trouble with the grind, try keeping yourself accountable by work week.
Speaking of weekly totals: I will probably miss the grind tomorrow. I'm going to the funeral of a family friend down in CT. It depends on when I get back from that. I might work a short day if I'm feeling up for it.

Hours in: basically full time.
Results: grinding the AP to a solid advantage
Poker: not forcing the issue or the hours in bad playtime windows, grinding a solid hourly in the hours played.
Keeping the distractions to a minimum. I hope you see some people you haven’t see in a while today, sorry it’s to say goodbye to a friend.
i think poker is still very productive because it complements slots rather than competing with them. it's easy to hit a ceiling on slots, and once you've done your rounds, doing another immediately usually doesn't add much unless you get lucky. so while a chart might suggest "just focus on slots," i think poker is a good use of the time between slot opportunities
in fact, it lets you get in more slot hours, because once those are tapped, instead of just going home, you play poker for 2-3 hours and then get up and check again
Does anyone remember when not showing cards heads up in ring games became a thing? I saw the rule in tournaments over 20 years ago, but I didn't see it applied to ring games until, maybe, 10 years ago?
yeah i remember when action was dead and everyone would just turn their cards over
i still do it but it seems nobody else does, even when they are first to act and would have to show anyway, just hoping the other guy flips his first
i feel like you gain so little info that way it's not worth it and always insta flip

Back in the early 2000s in Dawson City, Yukon, WAY up above civilization and at 2150kms from the nearest other casino offered poker game, the rules were really backwards, to say the least. As an example, if someone flashed a card in a tournament, his hand was automatically dead. Without a warning! So of course, certain players would fake to go all-in, leaving a chip behind - before it became a thing - as to get the other player to flip over his cards!!! I witnessed AA being forced into the mock deep in a tournament after such an angle was taken by a sleazy player 😊

Exactly this. Also, if I arrive and find that I've been scooped on the slots, I can play poker. If slot-only Villains arrive and find that I've scooped them, they'll have to either wait around for hours, or go home wafflecrushed and empty-pocketed.

While at the funeral, a cousin asked me for help next week at his business. A worker of his died unexpectedly and he needs me there next week to help prep for his big event on Saturday. The work is outdoor stuff, and not office business, so I'll be in CT all next week getting a working-man's tan.
I have to be there at 9AM on Monday, so a late night grind on Sunday is out of the question. I may have to switch to earlier hours to get in 4 days of grinding this week.

I won't be doing anything as manly as roofing.
I have done some rough jobs before, in my younger days. Digging post holes by hand was no picnic. New England has some rocky soil. All those stone fences you see, they don't come from a quarry or a stone factory. They come from farmers digging them out of the ground, then eventually giving up and moving west where there weren't so many damn stones.
150 years ago Vermont was 30% woods and 70% cleared land, now those percentages have been switched.
Staking hay bales: that was an old-school form of erosion prevention. You would think that driving a couple of wooden stakes through a hay bale and into the ground and repeating that a hundred or so times would be fairly easy; it's only hay. It wasn't easy, not at all.
Then there was the time my dad rented the cheapest rototiller in the shop and handed it off to me. This infernal device had zero wheels, just the tiller blades and a flat metal bar. Trying to till straight lines across a lawn-to-be with that was like wrestling against a fractious pony for several hours.
I hope I'll be able to mark last night as my most card dead poker session ever. I saw 4 hours with no pocket pair above 7s, no AK, no AQ, and only one AJo and one ATs. I played a few hands and lost every one of them. Fortunately, I played very few hands.

it's pretty crazy being deep in the the woods in the new england, your miles and miles from any road, been hiking for an hour, and yet you regularly come across old stone walls and farmhouse foundations and realize this uneven forest was leveled farmland or merino sheep pasture 150 years ago
