Feel Wrath's Seniors Special
The Aussie will be in Vegas for 8 nights - 10th to 18th June. Staying at Horseshoe.
It’s been 3 years since my last Veg
Interested in POV. 5-5/10 (1000) with the straddle always on. There's a limp & then the only pro at the table opens to 40 from HJ. I flat button with 44 and the straddle also calls, limper foldsFlop (130) is J 10 2 r. Checks around. Turn is the lovely 4 (still rainbow) & the pro bets 75.We're 1000 eff. What do you do here? His range is so weak - he has no overpairs, no
My general M.O is to always fast-play big hands, but against a pro who can value bet thinly I am tempted to just call. It's not that many scare cards on the river, and if he checks and you bet $250 on the river or something he might not believe you (you checked back the flop after all).
That said, you would probably bet KQ in position when checked to? So it might be hard for you to represent any kind of missed draw, especially as the board is rainbow.
In other words, I changed my mind and might like a raise on the turn better. Maybe make it fairly big, around $300 or so? Sets up a river jam, and a pro that can hand-read might get curious with how little you are repping on the turn.
I'm in with the raise. Go between 1/2 and 3/4 pot, something like that. If he folds, he folds.
$250 feels right.
GL on your trip.
Thanks and yep I raised 220 and he folded after probably 20 secs. All totally standard and unsurprising tbh
Real reason I think the hand has stayed in my mind is that it’s actually a really great spot to bluff raise when I don’t hit my set given how weak his range is. The more I think about it, I think he’s actually c betting most of his 10s too. So the best hands he has here are most likely under pairs to the 10 and it’s really hard for him to continue to a raise.
Now…my range isn’t that strong either tbh so my raise can look FOS and maybe another time the bluff raise gets called and I’d need to barrell river big which could get me into trouble
Idk. These are the things I think about though.

love how you /derail, as if that's even possible posting in your own thread.
quick hold em hand I'm interested in opinions on.I played a very uneventful 4 hour session this pm where the fish & stations all won & the regs all got burned! Only lost 323 but could barely hit a hand, other than this oneInterested in POV. 5-5/10 (1000) with the straddle always on. There's a limp & then the only pro at the table opens to 40 from HJ. So I have kind of a different opinion then the rest of the group. With this dry of a board, I am flatting on the turn. Why? Because exactly to your point, he has very value hands that can continue. Given the action it doesn't appear he's got AK/AQ/KQ. Honestly looks like he has a mid pair 66-99. If we flat, we keep all bluffs in, vs. raising out his bluffs.
Also, let's think about the river. Let's say the board pairs the J for instance. If he checks it over to us, we can size down for some value.....say... we go $60 into 280. I see him potentially calling with mid pairs, or maybe even AK/AQ played unconventionally.
I guess, I just don't see any merit of raising given his perceived range, how dry the board is, the fact we have position, and sure, he MIGHT check the river, and then again, he might not. What if an A peels off and he wants to rep it and he goes 150 into 280? What if he has something like A9ss, and he goes for some value himself. I think this is a flat all day on the turn unless I missed something.
You want to raise is that you need to win enough money to justify the call pf. The old rule of thumb was you want to be able to win 15 times your bet, or in this case, 600. With the villain's bet, there is only 160 in the pot that isn't yours. Without a raise, there is no way to get to that point. A "pro" playing 5/5/10 isn't going to last long folding a pair getting 3:1 on the turn. It is a decent bluffing spot, but I'd do 2 parts solid value to 1 part bluff.

Interesting concept on the 15 to 1 rule Venice. I'm not familiar with that one. The way you are explaining it makes sense, though I must admit, I'm not familiar with that concept enough to really have a strong opinion either way. I just think there are more bluffs to keep in than Value hands to extract from, and we already called so myeh.
The "15/25/35" rule is something at least I have learned from Bart Hanson, who says that in today's game you need to be able to make at least X times as much as your original bet with a certain group of hands to be able to play them pre-flop:
- Small/medium pocket pairs (for set-mining) need to be able to make 15x the original bet. So if you call $15 pre you need to be able to win $225 with your hand.
- Suited connectors need to be able to make 25x the original bet. So if you call $15 pre, you need to be able to win $375 with your hand.
- Gap-suited connetors need to be able to make 35x the original bet. So if you call $15 pre, you need to be able to win $525 with your hand.
Obviously these are made-up numbers, but they are based on the fact that people don't stack off as easily now as they did before. If you flopped a set in the older days you could be pretty certain of an overpair always doubling you up etc.

That's interesting, I'm def not nearly as studied as I am from years ago, and obviously the game has changed so much, I am well aware of how people don't stack off nearly as much but I admit I didn't contemplate at all that in terms of pre flop calling range/implied odds, strategy etc. I remeber the old set mining guidelines, that's about it. Thanks for sharing!!

Yeah, Bart used to set the numbers at 10/20/30 but in recent years he has adjusted them upwards.
I must admit I don't think too much about these things when playing, but I obviously make sure to not call speculative hands versus short stacks as the implied odds are just not there.

But in those cases your pocket 8's alone might be good enough.
Those numbers are not only inflated vs the real odds, but I'm fairly sure I have NEVER won 15 times my original bet with a flopped set. I have lost set over set numerous times though. Maybe I should never set mine, given my history.
ha - just encountered TJ Eckleburg on a low stakes PLO app game! Got stacked
hh somewhat standard I think. 3 handed where I limped the button with (I think) 5542ds and he 3 bet from bb and I called
I flopped the nut straight & an up & down Straight Flush draw on an A34cc flop. Potted flop and he called. The flush came in on the turn and he shoved & I sigh called and he had the nut or 2NF. I wasn't good enough to bink my SF outs
NB - TJ, that wasn't a rage quit by me - I was in the bathroom on a work break & was leaving anyway
I would have chatted longer, but I had three other tables up and they were shorthanded so I was playing fast.
Finally ran that account up to a good number for the first time! I think the PLO20 and PLO50 on that site are very beatable.
I’m glad I didn’t make you rage-quit, I had hoped not.
super busy last week & potential lead up to the trip for me.
I settled on a new home on Monday. The property had been leased til early August but last week I was told the tenants were moving out early which meant I had to accelerate all my plans/life to avoid too many weeks of both my mortgage & the weekly rent on my current place (which....is 1300pw so I'm keen not to do this for too long)
the challenge is that I need to paint & arrange work that mostly has to be done before we move in.
So in the last few days I've had to arrange for timber floor sanding, new carpets for bedrooms, new wardrobes etc. I'm at the beginning of day 2 of (hopefully) only 4 long days to paint it. ($16k the cheapest painting quote...no thanks!)
I also have needed to arrange my exit for my rental inc cleaners, carpet cleaners & fumigation (the law here when you own a pet). Plus organise & book removalists & help them market the property given I'm breaking my lease.
I also have a long list of stuff to buy but I'll handle most of that when I return - I'll have 6 days after I return before we move...which only means 3 weeks of double rent + mortgage.
all while running a business & managing my kids.
It's meant I've had no time to think about my trip...both getting excited plus packing etc...albeit I did order my US$ yesterday & I got my ESTA as well. It's Sat am here. I will be painting til Mon night (it's a public vacation on Mon) & will then think about packing etc on Tues.
I haven't been able to do as much mtt study as I would have liked albeit I've done a lot of work on bb check raises, c betting, 3 betting & short stack manoeuvering which I think are the most important things to focus on
the first beer on the plane will taste terrific...if I get there!

When I bought my first rental house, I got painting quote. I didn't like it, thinking I could do it, even though I had never painted a house before. I have a fulltime job as well.
After my first day, I was proven wrong. A friend of mine had painted a couple houses before, so I offered to pay him a small salary, He was a high school kid that I knew from the computer program at the high school where I worked. I spent every spare minute of the next month on that damn house, and in the end I spent slightly more than just hiring the painters I got the quote from. I wasn't quoted 16 grand though...
But I did wish I had just hired them.
Sounds like you’ll be bored next few days😁. Good luck with all that!
Congratulations on the new place, feel wrath! Hope it doesn't get too hectic for you.

I’m ok painting. I’m willing unskilled labour and so painting is the kind of thing I can save money on and do ok.
As soon as any tradecraft is required I’m out of my depth. While there is of course skill and craft in painting, I feel like I can do just enough

Me too, emphasis on the unskilled. I'm nearly worthless as a painter. With a roller the wall looked like it had bunch of uneven spots. The pads had just come out and I couldn't do any better with them. My friend could paint pretty well with the pads, so I just did the trim and baseboards.
Also depends on the context. When you're painting for your own residence, it can be a little less than professional (if you're ok with that).
Some years back, I repainted the entire interior, over the course of the winter. I had the benefit of time and not other people around, though.
That said, I think I'm done with anything other than touch-up painting. Hate the amount of prep/clean-up time vs actual working time.
