I have a friend that worked for the Flyers back then. It's not really a rumor.

Hurricanes should retire 88

I’m so ******** hungover. And also so ******** happy. What a run. What a team. What a win. This is why we watch. Let’s go Canes!

WE'RE BOTH WORLD CHAMPIONSSSSSSSS

YEAHHHHHHHH HEELS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! EVERYBODY IS SORRY EXCEPT US !!!!!

Let’s ****ing go!!!!!!!

Staal might have been finals MVP, but he shouldn’t have won the Conn Smythe, should have been Hall or Blake.

Maybe not Hall since he’s older, but Blake and Stankoven will get another shot at some point. Time to start the repeat tour, but that **** is hard as ****.

Staal didn’t necessarily have the scoring in the earlier rounds, but he had so many other contributions. I still think he deserved it for the total run.

Only if Scott Stevens unveils the banner.

The streak continues no team with a salary cap hit of 10 mill plus wins the cup
Canes highest 9.75 mill

The Canes are in a really good spot moving forward, especially if Staal doesn’t decide to retire. I don’t expect him to, though I also wouldn’t blame him if he did. Can’t really get much better than going out on the Cup + Conn. But I bet he wants to try to repeat.

Nikishin is the big contract we need to work out over the next few weeks. But basically everyone else is signed for at least next year. Plus, our AHL team has some gamers that probably deserve to be playing either with us or somewhere else. Reilly and Freddie also UFAs, and I wouldn’t be surprised if both are gone. Freddie could just retire too. Bussi and Pyotr are the goalies of the future.

Hard to say you need to change up much for a Cup winning team returning basically everyone. But with the available cap space and assets we have, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a big trade or big FA signing. We’re already the early Cup favorites.

Also, AiM, I think this thread deserves a title change too. Haha.

Haha, Vegas didn't even wait a full 48 hours before saying Torts won't be returning.

Wow!!!

Maple Leafs acquire Ersson, Andrae and pick from Flyers for Woll and Benoit.

Shed some money, something big coming maybe? They are talking with Reilly to try and get him to go for a trade as well.

Great value again on the Habs. They'll be a year older and got some great playoff experience and goalie situation is looking great for once. I think this is probably a worst case scenario for them and if Hughes decides to cash in some assets for a 2C or top RHD, then the Habs become a top 5 team.

Hard to argue against the Canes though and they'll again have the advantage of a relatively easy path to the ECF whereas the Atlantic team will face a gauntlet. TB, Buf, Fla, Mtl, and Ott could all be top 10 teams and all in the same division.

Yup, it's pretty crazy. I expect Tulsky to be able to navigate our position as efficiently as possible. I'm sure he's been running all sorts of scenarios and ideas.

Another reason Staal deserved the Conn was his face-off value. 235/414 (56.75%) for the entire playoffs and an insane 83/122 (68%) in the finals.

He only had 3 sub-50% games in the entire playoffs. Games 2 (10/24) and 4 (12/32) against Ottawa and game 1 (8/17) against Philly.

welp, rogers finally killed hockey night in canada, rip (1952-2026). **** them, and bell

The Hall/Stanko/Blake line was hot as hell even before the playoffs. I was riding them before the playoffs started and through the playoffs and they carried the team in every series as well.

Staal was huge in the final, but that line carried the team through all the other rounds. Hall scored the cup winning goal as well. You’re right, Staal was great on faceoffs, and maybe all three of them being so good makes it hard to choose one, but, I think it’s a bit of a cop out.

Think it'll still be on Sportsnet, just not on CBC

The Maple Leafs have hired Jim Hiller as head coach.

Whoever he is lol, out of like 50 interviews, really?

Ahhh he was a assistant here in Babcock days.

Seems underwhelming. Nothing like hiring a coach who was just fired.

VGK hires Ryan Craig former assistant coach for them and head coach of their AHL affiliate in Henderson.

Makes sense why they immediately moved on from Torts. I'm guessing this was always the plan. I don't know anything about Craig, but that's the kind of hire that can have high upside.

feel like toronto would be in full meltdown mode rn if the league didn't hand them the #1 pick again. annoying

Supposedly they were up front with torts when they hired him love to see him in Edmonton

the nhl has completed their 5-minute babcock investigation and even though everyone who has met him thinks he's the woat human they see no issue. more shocking stuff from the 200 good hockey men...
