USA Goes to War Against Iran
Time for a dedicated thread to the war.
How long will it last and what will be the probable outcome?
I agree that its complicated. I guess my main problem with a lot of the analysis in this thread is that no one really knows what "hardline" means, or how Iranian govt works (I sure dont lol), or what many of the people want. fwiw there were large demonstrations against the MOU before the signing. and there is still a good chance that it all falls apart. even if it doesnt
The IRI has a very detailed ideological charter, and are not shy about explaining how their actions are adhering to it. At some point when someone keeps repeatedly telling you who they are, you should accept they are telling the truth.
The problem is their motivations involve believing in magic and endtime prophecies. And liberals dont really have a theory of mind for this kind thinking. So they just ignore what IRI leaders have been saying for 40 years, and declare they dont really know what the IRI is even really about.
Also, if you accept IRI leaders are telling the truth, there is no real political solutions to be found. And liberals are not willing to go there, despite overwhelming evidence politics is mostly futile.
Trump always tells you whatβs going on because heβs stupid. The US runs out of oil reserves in four weeks, thatβs why he capitulated to Iran now.
FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF 'CAN'T WIN FOR LOSING':
If Trump tells us what's really going on he's stupid.
If Trump doesn't tell us what's really going on he's being evasive or dishonest.

geezey: "It took me until June 2026 to figure out Trump is retaaded; hopefully I have another chance to vote for him."
Every Iranian leader in the last 45+ years was a hardliner and authoritarian as well. That's a feature, not a bug, or ANY theocracy, whether Muslim or Christian or any other religion.
These things are pretty much always stated as relatives. You are not comparing Iranian Ayatollahs to some civic-minded social democrat, you are comparing them against other nutjobs.
As it pertains to the region, we can simplify the axis down to "nuclear weapons is a bad idea", "nuclear weapons is something we should explore", "nuclear weapons is something we should have" to "nuclear weapons is something we should use".
The reason it becomes complex is that the difference between 2 and 3 is debatable and 4 is a political superposition; you can't know it until you see it.
I will also say IMO how this eventually breaks out is going to depend on Iran's future behavior. IF the IRGC decides to turn Iran into a normal country, even a sucky authoritarian one like Pakistan or NK, I think this could be the end.IF it continues with its Revolutionary ideology and funding destabilizing proxies around the ME there will be more war.As I have said before, fo
I don't think there is much need for speculation there. Regardless of how these planned talks pan out, there will be more war.
Iran will not stop its proxy warfare, the Iran-Iraq border region is a chaotic mess, Lebanon is a hot mess, Palestine is nowhere near a solution and Israel has painted itself into a corner. There is also enough ideological kindling in the region to keep it going for decades to come, and oil and nitrates is too important for the rest of the world to keep its meddling hands off the table.
You might get what I like to call "shitty peace". A war where everyone is polite enough to never use the w-word.
--I think the one thing this analysis is missing is the role all of Trump's other "allies" (Qatar, Turkey, Pakistan) play in the timeline. I think he was getting a lot of pressure from these other nations not to take more aggressive lines. And in the case of Qatar probably directly bribed not too. Qatar seems to have been playing both sides the whole time and bribing IRGC AN
because iran spent more time attacking their sort of allies and fellow muslims then attacking Israel or the us
lmao theres no way. "the us capitulated to iran because they didn't want to pay above market prices to restock" maybe. you know you can just buy more right? the western hemisphere that is not at all effected by the blockade has a major surplus including isolating north america and American controlled Venezuela but global prices affect it. Might have been political suicide to ask congress for more money to buy oil
Peace talks halted because of Israel. Shocker...
Doesn't really matter, as Israel has said that chit's not going to fly and are going to sabotage it.
So I guess that $300 billion in reparations that Mexico is going to pay- err... I mean the Gulf Coast Coalition is going to pay for is on hold.

you do realize that, instead of βjust buying moreβ they have been actively releasing massive amounts of oil from strategic reserves?
do you understand why they are doing that? and why just buying more would have the opposite effect?
help me respect your intellect
Iran announced the Strait is closed again. As I said before, this is their leverage so they are going to keep using it. It is just going to be a nonstop game of chicken, and I guess the rest of the world is going to be doing all the blinking.
Israel and Lebanon's Hezbollah have agreed to a ceasefire, a senior US official confirms to the BBC
The pause in fighting was due to begin at 16:00 local time (14:00 BST) on Friday
.
lol they have been firing missiles at each other all morning.
its really great that Hezbollah is not playing by Israeli rules anymore. if the IDF wants a ceasefire then they need to stop firing and gtfo of Lebanon.
anyway, Dems should be happy bc now the US wont be giving Iran their money back.

The bolded is very important. There was a misconception among many (including myself) that the U.S. was essentially gifting Iran $300B. But that money is mostly releasing frozen assets; that is, it was Iran's money to begin with. Glad you pointed that out.

Where are you getting this? Even Iran claims it's only $100 billion.
Sounds like you're getting that Cheeto lipstick applied via tethering Trump's cock.
Sounds like the new marching orders and talking points have been issued.
Btw, we still don’t have money for healthcare or homeless. So pay up for more bombs and bullshit, citizen.

According to the BBC, the US 'with regional partners' is pledging $300bn of financial aid to Iran, and this is separate from the unfreezing of Iranian assets, which is dealt with in a different clause of the MoU.

lol the current Dem frontrunner for president vetoed health care in his home state and took vanity photos of himself destroying homeless encampments with his bare hands.

Money isn't the problem. NY and LA spend over $80,000 per person, and they have the worst homeless situations in the US. $80K!! Clearly, throwing large sums of money at it doesn't help anything.
It's about the will to use laws to end it, and actually caring rather than using as a corruption vehicle. They were able to clean up the streets of San Francisco when their left wing grand daddy Xi visited. All the homeless gone under threat of law, moved into shelters or elsewhere. Homeless programs in Democrat cities are partly scams for Democrats to enrich themselves. You want to throw more money at that?
Florida also does much better than NY or LA while spending far less - much lower rates of homelessness, more shelter beds. It helps that they're run by competent Republicans (not an opinion; Florida crushes on most metrics). Texas is another example of homelessness handled well and for far less money with better shelter coverage.
