knies was their 2nd worst forward by 5v5 xg last season, only ahead of calle jarnkrok who i didn't know was still playing, and behind max domi (lol). was also their worst forward defensively by far. year before he was good, but i'm guessing he was playing with matthews and marner, so. 2023-24 he was bad again. 3-year sample he's like 9th best forward, ahead of luminaries such as steven lorentz, domi, nic robertson, ryan reaves, dakota joshua, jarnkrok, dave kampf and so on. narrowly beating out a bunch of fringe nhlers...

so i see why the laffs are shopping him, but i fail to see why teams are apparently offering t5 picks / multiple 1sts / etc. unless he's riding shotgun with 2 allstars idk if you're gonna get much out of him, barring some crazy development boost. i suppose that's possible given his age, but 23 isn't that young tbh. he kinda probably is what he is at this point

cliffs: basically i feel like the laffs know him best, and if they felt he was gonna be the next dominant power forward in the league they'd be signing him long-term, not trying to trade him. and certainly not to the habs, even considering how lol treliving is

That's fair. Prob more likely his output was driven by being on the Marner-Matthews line than anything. Then again, he'd likely get Demidov in MTL, so would prob be a top xG% guy again.

Re: your comment "but 23 isn't that young tbh. he kinda probably is what he is at this point"

It seems that NHLers seem to peak quite young. Some of these 6+ year contracts for dudes near 30 are gonna age quite poorly.

dmen falling off after 24 is wild. i (mis)remembered it the other way, with forwards peaking early. i wonder if there's any newer public data on that, especially given how the game has changed of late.

Sources: Jason Robertson turns down contract offer from Kraken

Sources indicating the St Louis Blues offered a package that included multiple first round picks to the Dallas Stars for Jason Robertson but he is not interested in signing there

all these ****ers wanna play for the same ~6 teams

Yep, league is broken, that's why I suggested Houston and Austin teams for more parity. Can go with San Antonio and Orlando too while we're at it, maybe Reno.

yeah they're looking at austin and houston, so maybe they say **** it and add both. it'd help with the geographical balance, finally move nashville to the eastern conference probably

National No State/Provincial Income Tax Hockey League

t minus less than a hour till the chaos begins.

Jason Robertson turned down 8 years 15 mill a year from Seattle from Darren Dregger in a trade deal

National No State/Provincial Income Tax Hockey League

I could pull up stats to fit the other narrative for the 10 years prior but I'm lazy.

It was been 2 weeks since a team with state income tax has won a cup. Also, they have been perennially good.

MUAHAHAHAHA unless he is a bust which could be a possibility, or more likely the Leafs will screw it up and do nothing with him and trade him.

It becomes a much bigger factor as contracts have exploded to 8 figures per year for top players.

a 10M player is taking a tax hit of 3.7M in no-income tax state and 5.3M in the top taxes states/provinces. That's a 1.6M disparity for a star player.

Tax hit on a 10M contract in Carolina is 4.1M compared to 3.7M in a non tax state. They're only 0.4M disadvantaged against no income tax states vs. 1.2M advantage over hardest hit teams.

Yah, super good from 09/10 to 17/18 when they missed 9 playoffs in a row.

Any Sharks fans? I am a little jealous,

yeah chokez might have done well. got a likely star, needed dmen and got 2 bites at it.

not as good as the canucks though, 2 hofers in ldo

The asset management of the Flames the past 3 season should be taught in schools. A masterclass of how to manage aging UFA's and draft/aquire a ton of young talent, without having any top 3 picks.

Heck can only imagine Carolina compared to New York or LA when you add in the cost of housing

Where are you getting those numbers? From my understanding players pay taxes in the state the game is played. Doesn't Nashville have a visiting pro athlete tax and players on a min contracts almost make nothing when they play Nashville.

It also could be taxes or the no taxes states are just better places to live.

Not as much action as I thought was going to be, there was HUGE talks but nothing came of them. It is being reported Toronto may offer Bobrovsky $7-8 million a year for 3-5 years.

Leafs traded Brandon Carlo to St Louis for 2 3rd round picks

The San Jose Sharks have taken 7-foot-1 defender Alexander Karmanov – the tallest player ever selected

the mountain to chara's hound

i assume this guy can't play, but imagine. i guess we'll get there sooner or later with some gigantic wemby-esque freak of nature

I was on the Ducks early last season.

My click to pick this season is the Sharks.
