Thanks Limon for bringing back Poker Sesh. The trooper conversation was illuminating, and I hope he appreciates you trying to drag him back to reality a little bit with the black swan comment. As somebody who has many friends who havestruggled with gambling issues , the trooper seems a little too fixated on the $90k

I think his videos would be more interesting if he talked about some of the stuff he wrote about in his old blog. I sometimes wondered if it was the same person; that’s how secretive he is in his videos.
True his life isn’t interesting but he still has more stuff he could talk about than people think. He wrote a lot of stuff in that blog. He put in on private because some of it was obviously personal.
He said he basically broke even in those Westgate games, is a small winner lifetime at poker and that he isn't very good at poker.
Breaking even at poker and making 40/ hour in rake plus 20 an hour in secondary tables really could have added up to a lot if done correctly and multiple days a week.
Holy crap imagine being gifted a MINIMUM of 13BB/hour AND playing with the worst poker droolers you can find (eg. OMC) and ending break even over 7 years by his own admission (which probably means a small loser).
But it's really interesting how Limon, by using the right approach, got Trooper to be way more honest and critical of himself than his usual bravado.

No peacocks were found and ELD leaves disappointed and he could have just walked from the hotel room to the parking garage.
I disagree on that. Impulse control or discipline for example can be learned to a certain degree over time.What really sealed his faith of not crushing in any area is his stubborness/thinking he knows everything better than everyone,wich blocked him from maximizing out on the chances he got.Imagine if he would learn to beat 1/3 or 2/5 when he moved to Vegas,plus got some advice
The one thing that is pretty unanimous is that Trooper was a pretty good poker dealer. From accounts he was friendly and jovial. Contrast that with ElD who *thinks* he is 99th percentile but is terrible with his disgusting rake thing and constantly enforcing the rubric.
If Trooper had been a dealer all this while I'd say he'd have a very comfortable middle class life right now.

You'd think someone with no other income who only had this game going once a week would figure out a way to make it go more often but nope. And it's not like it was some crazy big game with a tiny player pool. It really shouldn't have been hard with some effort.

Imo, after the novelty wore off, he hated hosting because it seemed like "working for the man" since he had to be there at a set time. It interfered with his schedule of doing whatever he wanted whenever he wanted. Also must have been depressing once the numbers dwindled to just six or seven regulars.
One of the non-regulars complained that Trooper never even visited the secondary tables. Trooper responded in a video saying that he felt awkward making the rounds since he didn't want to seem like he was making the game "all about him." True poker ambassador.

Especially during football season. He could've added a Trooper Monday for monday night football, along with the Thursdays.

I think he could've kept a couple of tables going longterm if he suggested the room do an action-inducing promo like an hourly cash raffle for made straights and flushes, to get more people chasing draws(instead of the room's usual nit high hand promo), and called it Trooper Action Thursdays to take "ownership" of it, although it'd be the room doing it.

Wasn’t he often only getting a single table? Only a small number of people were showing up. I was always surprised Westgate did this because he wasn’t popular.
If he was more likeable and got a lot more subscribers he would have made a lot more off this game and a lot more off his videos and merch. Imagine if he had around 100k-200k subscribers and a lot of those people were actually watching the videos instead of having 40k with very few watching.
When Neeme and Brad did meetups they had a lot more tables. Of course they weren’t meeting a few times a month in the same room, but it would be jammed in their meetups. A couple reasons why are people liked them and they had way more followers, even though they talked about hands in their videos (which Trooper compared to going to the dentist because he said talking about hands is so boring).

Fish love the "im quitting my job and going to Vegas to be a pro poker player follow me along my journey" story with good action, editing, picture graphics and sound and a journey which has ups and downs but mostly ups and keeps the dream alive. this sells big especially when poker was more popular.
Fish DO NOT LIKE a "leaving Las Vegas" type story that ends broke and dealing cards. The gambling influencer hustler world is smoke and mirrors all the way to the nosebleeds and if you break the spell youre finished.

Trooper and Diesel are at opposite ends of the percentile sticks, both as dealer and human beings. Even when Trooper was fairly broke, he lived in the Manor, a dwelling fit for human habitation. Diesel lives in a windowless closet, eating animal parts past the expiration date. Trooper's coworkers spoke well of him, dunno about Diesel.
Hey, Diesel hosted a PH poker room closing party on the roof for coworkers. But for some reason nobody showed up to drink his root beer or whatever other snacks he had. He had to toss the football around by himself.
