A valid strategy for getting ripped imo.

Been hanging out with SmileyEH who came for a visit. I let him know his stickies are still here.
Say hi. His posting is largely why I started lifting.
sup dudes.
alright, later dudes.
anyone had experience with a hernia?
I've been conscious of one for at least a decade but it hasn't ever bothered me. it's 'returned' over the past week and is giving me a small amount of discomfort when I'm in certain positions. I think it's been like this in the past before receding back into my stomach but I can't remember for sure so I'm interested if anyone else has had one that they've been aware of, has flared up and then stopped bothering them again?
basically am hoping it goes away and I don't have to start booking doctor's appointments
My old man ignored his and ended up getting them fixed two years apart when his insides were hanging into his sac, so I would not recommend that approach (especially given you're both in your mid-70s).

My dad had hernia surgery a couple of yrs ago. His also only bothered him occasionally. He had a quick and easy recovery and he's over 80. If I had one and it wasn't really bothering me, I'd knock it out at some convenient time. Don't want to wait until you get to the Monte's dad stage.

You donβt think that Ignoring Science might improve enough over the next 20 years that I might be able to successfully ignore mine into my 80s?

Thanks and hmm, the evidence is mounting that I might need to go to the doc. Hoping some convincing dissenting voices may come forward soon!
What's the worst that could happen if you ignore it? Unlike many ITT, I am a doctor.
well then, you tell me? Whatβs your pov?
Iβm looking for reasons to do just that. I did a quick search last night and I saw β6 weeks of inactivity/light walking onlyβ as the post op recovery. Even for someone with a long history of ignoring/dramatically reducing those guidelines, that was enough to scare me!
Tbh itβs already stopped bothering me
I had umbilical hernia surgery in 2011 but looking back I probably could've left it alone.
The worst that can happen is enough of your intestine pokes through and gets kinked and then you need surgery fast but usually it'll be painful enough before that happens thatbyou want the surgery.
Keep in mind recovery recommendations by the ADA are extremely conservative. I was in some pretty strong pain a couple days after but I was back in the gym a week later and just used my judgment. Was back at full strength within 6 weeks or so.
Whilst I'm happy to offer medical advice, my doctorate is in maths. So the advice would be founded in ignorance and optimism. With that caveat in mind, you'll be fine. (I barely know what a hernia is.)

Interesting. I have an umbilical hernia as well. My doctor said to leave it alone unless it bothers me. It doesn't bother me physically but it sure does cosmetically.
fw,
You can die if you're a moron. I actually asked an MD friend (shocker I have a bunch) on if I should go to the doctor for an issue (stubbed toe which got infected while the nail was falling off). He refused to give me an answer and insisted "You're not ****ing stupid" (O RLY?!?)
I would encourage you to journey down a route of self discovery. You seem like an elderly derp. But the joys of modern medicine don't seem beyond you. Hope this helps.
Yes. I think my plan is not to book a specific appointment but to ask the doc about it the next time I see him. Which will probably be within a few months
The Australian expression for βnot gonna do anything about that til it gets to emergency statusβ is βsheβll be right, mateβ and a friendβs father managed to βsheβll be right mateβ himself to death by ignoring a small cancerous lump for years and only heading to the doc when it got huge and painful by which timeβ¦
Hi,
I am into 'Breaking Backs', 'Better Call Stu'. The biggest fan of The Yugoslavian, I like him cuz if he dies, he'll be fine even if he doesn't get an 'R. I. P' from I. This whole world was formed, he knows who by.
Dude, how much did you just smoke?
On a scale of 0 to paranoid I was near about 'Run, it's the clergy' and had to stop watching The Conclave. Pretty meh. The character of Stan Tucci did remind me of The Conspiracy. He plays Adolf Eichmann β pure evil meets a filing cabinet. It's a tight movie with some great actors. I will be posting some updates and concerns in my thread. I just got back from seeing an Endo. Doctors in India make me nervous. Great timing with your question tho Yugo. It was the last one of the year. Serious and honest.
On the subject of movies and such, I am pretty sure last couple of hours of Death Stranding 2 - like I will finish it by the afternoon unless, and no spoilers, but given the brutally emotional end game missions I am tempted to watch The Boondock Saints and then finish the game. We'll see. Yugo for Prez.
Damn, does no one even use the LC anymore?
Mme Melkerson for some reason decided to buy an allegedly 100lb pumpkin that she wants to carve up for Halloween. She brought it home and was like "Melk, you're gonna need to get the pumpkin out of the van".
I felt like a DYEL version of Aidan lifting up an atlas stone. Pumpkins are hard to get a good grip on. Thankfully, I got the job done without dropping it. Felt heavy, though. But that's what I get for barely lifting anymore.
On a more content related note, it seems belt squats are all the rage. I remember seeing a contraption that I could easily add to the cage in my home gym where I could do this. Just did a search and I couldn't find it. There were lots of things that came up but they were all fairly bulky and what I saw just involved a belt and some clamps. Anyone have some recs?
