Hotel Review Thread
Since there are so many questions about hotels, I was thinking it would be useful for people to post the hotels they hav
Hi guys, what's the general opinion here about staying / eating / playing poker at South Point? good option for a more budget week?
I've never stayed there, but have played poker and slots there. I like the general layout, which is the same as Orleans because they were built by the same owner. It's a comfortable and convenient place, lots of restaurants, most of which look good. Movie theaters, bowling I think, on site. Worst thing about it is it's a long way from the Strip if you don't have a car, easy drive if you do. Best thing about it is you might be able to do everything you want without leaving the property.

I have stayed there, it's one of my very favorite hotels in Vegas. the poker room is good and well run, but it can turn into a retirement home with a ton of OMCs.
there are tons of affordable dining options, and other stuff like a nice bowling alley, movie theater, and a real nice pool.
the hotel rooms are probably the largest basic rooms in Vegas, and are very nice.
only real drawbacks is it is a drive to any other poker room and to the Strip. but there is enough to do on site and the poker room is good

SP has a "1BR Suite" for about $130 weekdays. Anxious if anyone has been there/tried that. All I can think of is the sawdust-covered cowpoke who slept in my bed last.
Don't. And I'm the biggest Oyo fanboy here probably, I used to hold their top status and stay in comped suites there back when you could get that for 4 nights just with $1.5k coin in on a Monday. They're clearly just waiting to see what happens with the Tropicana before putting any more money into it. The elevators have been ****ed for months. Hooters is gone. The rooms need mai
Thanks for the detailed response and all the others (especially liked Langdon's "God bless your soul" line)
Frustratingly I keep getting offers from Rio despite staying at Orleans last year (for 10 nights).
Currently have Club de Soleil booked on a fully refundable basis as it's a mile from Orleans and I will likely be playing a decent amount there again. For me I then don't mind an Uber to the Strip or walking.
Going to keep looking though in case I can find anything better.
Edit: As for the max 14 nights stay thing, that might not be an issue as I have an early flight on departure day and had already contemplated not bothering with a room for the final night.

It's not a sin to change hotel rooms in the middle of a trip.
Rio is basically 2-4 city blocks from the Orleans. Also, Orleans will not often send you mailers, you have to log in and check if you have any comped rooms.
Yeah, have been checking Orleans (Boyd Rewards) but only offer has been "best price guaranteed", which proves not to be true.
Found a potential deal via Expedia.
Sorry, me again and with a question which may be impossible to answer.
Basically, at what price differential does it make sense to book direct with a hotel in order to receive loyalty points/future offers versus getting a cheaper price???
Eg; my current Orleans stay via Trivago/Expedia is £400 cheaper than booking direct.
If the difference was £200 would it be worth it assuming I plan to make future trips.
Thanks as usual.

are you planning to do much degen casino gaming/slots? or mainly just poker? if you are planning to do a bunch of playing it maybe better to go direct and see if you can get somethings taken off the bill at checkout.
if just a hotel for a poker stay and you won't be a big player for the casino, going third party to save a couple hundred is probably prudent.
I have one other suggestion: book the first night or two direct, then the rest from cheap site, and when you check in ask them to link the reservations so you stay in same room
It's been a long time since I booked a casino stay via Expedia, but I *think* the price they give you does not include resort fee. You will still need to pay resort fee when you arrive. There is a chance I am mistaken on this point.
Update: a Google search confirms, the casino will charge you resort fee when you arrive.

Never book through a travel agent. Their prices rarely include the Resort Fee which is why it is cheaper, plus no chance of getting anything off the bill at the end of the trip.

I'm well aware of this thanks.
Price difference I quoted factors in the resort fee.
I would think you'd take the cheaper option. The future offers will come from your gambling habits much more than your hotel booking habits. Unless, as others have said, you plan to gamble enough this trip that you think you might get them to comp the room.
It's unlikely you can lose enough to get a comp, but if you win big--maybe.

As someone who knows the
Comps system really good , if you can save 400on the trip just do that .
Get a new card there and just play as you normally would.

I see this as a complaint/negative a lot in trip reports or reviews. To me it's a positive, as long as you can set the fan on the AC to always ON. It's white noise that blocks out traffic noise if you have a room that has a view of the Strip or may be too close to the pool party. Agree if if that's not an option. The cycling of on and off in auto fan mode wakes me up too.
two weeks later but i see what you did there in the end slater
I am also a white noise person and have a fan on every night for that reason. The problem with the old ACs isn’t that they make a noise it’s that they rattle and make different noises which disturb rather than relax
also identify as a noisy white emailer but personnaly not a fan of it
same could be said for blood sucking parasites and snakes coiled up on the champagne trail
Hello all,
Does anyone have any recent experience at the OYO Hotel and/or (in a less likely scenario), the Serene Vegas Boutique Hotel please?
(I did search this thread but it only brought up 2 brief mentions of OYO).
Thanks

Last time I went to Vegas, Nov 2019, I was very pleasantly surprised when a casino host at the Main Street said at the end of my stay "You will not have to pay a cent, I'm comping the whole $900 hotel bill and booking you for a steak dinner at the Fremont"
My slot / video poker losses for the 8 days had been around $2500 - I was happy with the "rebate" - it seems that steak house at Fremont closed down at some point?
Things may have changed or I was lucky with that host or that's a reasonable comp, not sure!
Stayed at Planet Hollywood recently. It is one of the 3 hotels that are located together, and often priced about the same. I usually stay in Horseshoe or Paris, the other 2 hotels. They are very "meh" wrt the restaurants, which doesn't bother me a lot because I often get food outside of the hotel anyway. PHo, however, has much nicer restaurants than the other two. The hotel and casino are somewhat nicer too. Th parking garage, however, is a huge cluster.
So if you're driving there, PHo is a no-go unless you plan to leave you car parked until you leave. Even then, you might no like it, since the garage is at least a half-mile from the casino. If you have to haul a lot of stuff to your room, you won't be happy. The same, if you have trouble getting around (I have a bad back).
I went to book a room and looked at other available offers and seems like the default "member exclusive deal" was not the only or best option available. there were F&B credit ones too, although the room rate wasn't better.still, was able to snag 2 nights at Excal for $135 with $50 food credit, that will come to like $42/night. not terrible. without the dining credit could get l
ding ding! got a mail offer at Red Rock for a comp stay. the dirty castle will have to wait again.
3 free nights at Treasure Island and 3 free nights at Red Rock! (one night is overlapping, 5 nights total)
$150 freeplay at TI and $50 freeplay at RR
a good time to be alive
Might as well book the overlap day at both places so you don't have to beg for a late checkout or wait around to be able to check in.
Or sell it on 2p2.

How much have you played at Red Rock and how recently? My wife wants to take a family trip and stay there, but I have no play history and rack rate is like $500/night average for the base room. I was thinking about taking a day trip out there to at least get in the Station system and start getting offers, but I'm not sure how much play I really need to give them to get some kind of teaser offer.

great question! here's my uneducated experience:
I first visited RR for one day on 4th July 2022. played a little VP, a little blackjack too. not a lot of time or money, maybe an hour of low bet each.
I started getting teaser mailer offers a month or two later, which went I think for a year. I got a comp offer which I used in Feb 2023, and it ended up being 3 free nights in a ridiculous suite. it was the best trip ever. I played some poker, quite a bit of blackjack. think I basically stayed on site the 3 days
I went again June 2023. 3 free weekend nights in a regular (but still super nice) room. ended up being one of my biggest $ loser trips. I played a lot of blackjack to try keeping casino host big brother happy, and poker didn't go well either. still I left positive reviews everywhere, blah blah.
that was my last mailer offer. I went on a vacation with my wife in Feb 2023, and when I called the casino host to see what they could give me, it was like $900 for three days. so appears the golden goose was dead (we stayed elsewhere). I did visit and play a little again in July 2024 but nothing special came from it.
I got a mailing a month or two ago for "exclusive monthly deal" I think which wasn't special. yesterday I finally got mailer for comp stays for Nov and Dec.
hope that helps. Red Rock is my favorite resort in Vegas.
Don’t you miss the energy of the Strip though? I’ve never been and the property looks great but being on the Strip and heading out into the madness every day is such a part of the Vegas experience for me
