Pre flop check up posts.
I thought it would be helpful to start an ongoing thread where people can post pre flop situations they have questions a
I call and mentally prepare myself for a AK9 monotone flop lol.
3 combos aces, 3 combos kings, 9 combos AK.
Passive 4 8 game, 2 limps to MP TAG who raises, folds to me in BB
1. A7o
2. 98o
A7 is a terrible RIO hand, so I can see the case for folding it despite getting what is likely going to be 7:1, but I don't think 98 is ever a fold here. I'd probably call with both, though.
There is no reason to 3bet a TAG w/ A5s here. You want to encourage people in, not have a chance for them to fold a dominated suited hand.
I would not 3bet either of these hands from the BB in a 4-way pot and I donβt think I would 3bet any speculative hand in a 4-way pot. I would consider it in a 6-7 way pot with something like JTs or T9s but even then itβs not a default.
A5s has become a mythical hand in NL where players 3 and 4 bet with it pre. But while it's a raise pre most of the time in a limit game, it's never a 3 or 4 bet.
Iβd 3bet A5s on the button versus a cutoff open, in the BB versus an SB open, and potentially in the SB against a button or cutoff open. But I definitely canβt think of a spot where I would 4bet with it.
4 8 8 16 game
2 limps to me OTB, A2s. Blinds do not have a fold button. I call.
4 8 8 16 game. Blinds can fold but BB is usually coming along. CO and BTN are reasonable players.
UTG LP player limps, I am in HJ with K9s. I raise.
Is it a kill pot?
I raise A2s OTB.
I raise K9s from the CO, from the HJ I think all three choices have merit depending on game dynamics.
7 handed 60/120. Laggy kid raises UTG and good lagtag 3bets UTG+1. I have KQs UTG+2 and I . . .
Don’t call π
What counts for lag these days? IIRC opening ~18% in the LJ was playable, maybe up to 20% with strong postflop play. So FJ at 16% and LJ 3bets at 11.2%?
And what do you want for a cold 4bet range? On one hand there's some blind money ("I'm not dead yet!") and position on the two vpips. On the other hand there's still four yet to act who can wake up with top of range. PPT suggests one behind has (AA-JJ, AxKx) about 1.3%. So at least one of them would find something about 5%. So I'm willing to take a little less than fair share but not much, like 31%? My best guess is that we're at ~30% and should consider folding, which is why the question gets asked. Best I can do with my limited tools. Haven't yet accounted for "that guy's face" equity, always in play.

I think FJ is wider than 16% but your handle on LJ is about right. For what it's worth, the game dynamic was extremely aggro (think people 3betting stuff like K6s, Q9s, A9o, people routinely raising the flop with any pair or any draw) so it seemed like KQs was just way too much hand to fold.
Reasonably sound preflop 20-40 game except for the obvious fish.
Fish open limps EP (splitting range, this is some nonsense that wants to hit a flop), a reg raises from LJ.
H in HJ with 88...? What about other pairs and suited Aces? In a sharper game I'm somewhat unsure the merits of a flat that in a fishier field basically guarantees a minimum of 5 ways to the flop, and as primarily a NLH player this situation works very differently there.
