I advice you to play $5 avg buyin with the $1600 bucks u got. You can play some 11s sum 5.50s and 3.30s etc.
3 tabling on a laptop seems optimal. With satties maybe play 20% of your buyins in satties over the course of a week. Lower buyin satties to 22s 33s etc.

if he plays 55s and $109s his average buyin is $82. thats not even 20 buyins with his current bankroll.
if he had a 50% roi (best in the world) hes got a 50% chance of losing the lot with 1600 bucks. Even if he had 5.5k his risk of ruin is 50% with a reasonable 10% roi in those games.

I would advice him to play 1 hand of blackjack if hes not going to follow more conservative bankroll stragegy. Its more likely he will win $1600 from that than from playing hours of 109 and 55 poker tournaments. Then play 33 avg buyin. His chances of success are hugely higher if he did this if only hes a winning player. He could even play a $109 every 7 tournaments if he just played a few 5.50s in the mix with a 22 and a 11 etc. 100 buyins is still under rolled though.
he had 10k but choose to give to parents. he could be rolled ample with that amount to play a few 109s each week. But now hes just betting with the worst of it.
