Donald J. Trump (For everyone else)

I assume it's still acceptable to have a Trump thread in a Politics forum?

So this is an obvious lie - basically aimed at

I am wondering if average Americans have any idea of the sense of betrayal Canada and Europe are feeling, and the amazement that the US citizenry and elected representatives are putting up with their president siding with Russia and NK against the free world.

The answer is no.

One of the big cultural differences between US and EU that I’ve personally observed is that people in US make it a point of honor to not give a **** about the rest of the world, while Euros at least kinda sorta think about their rep with their neighbors.

It’s a stereotype but it’s 100% true.

I think the word cockwomble sums up what most of the UK thinks of Trump, imo.

Trump says Ontario ‘not allowed’ to slap surcharge on electricity sent to U.S. states

I dunno guys. I’m not sure I buy that trump is stupid

This plus his assertion that boycotting Tesla is illegal is sending me. There's no way any of you people can support this buffoon. None.

For the 2016 election my mom said she couldn't decide who to vote for between Bernie Sanders or Donald Trump. Many, many, many people are getting their information from social media, titles of articles/posts (literally just the title, not reading anything), and sound bytes. Even when individuals are shown data/information and given logical arguments for things they are unable to interpret and internalize that info.

Or they simply don't believe any data/information that would disagree with their internal preferences is true, which is fairly easy to do given the amount of actual mis-information both sides spread regularly

I agree. Self biases are a big issue.

wow, zers comes in with the super hot take of "people in government may actually have a plan" and just gets blasted with needless insults and attacks

way to prove you're totally not all in a cult guys

I mean Trumps whole movement is that all experts are wrong, the government is both stupid and insidious, and all news is fake. Hardly that hot of a take to flip to things around. I agree that a lot of reactions to Trump are emotional but thats what happens when someone gaslights you and attacks the world around you. Pretty awful false equivalency of cult status.

woah good insight...please really internalize this and run with it. We might get a break through with you yet!

Anyone want to bet that DJT brings up that Rob Ford was a crackhead before the end of this week?

Buying the dip.

I'm getting a kick out of all the people celebrating Elon losing 200 billion dollars, but also acknowledging there has been no real-world impact. Those same people spent however many years demanding that we confiscate those totally-real dollars from him to redistribute to the masses. Not a single one of them has sat down and thought about the fact that these are all fake numbers on a balance sheet somewhere and can't actually be easily turned into TV dinners and new iPhones for the masses.

I have lost quite a bit of on-paper money this month. Trump is playing the economy like I play XCOM: fast and loose with no regard for the health and safety of my soldiers. Someone should tell him that doesn't always end well. Even if you do get to the desired finish line, the journey can be ROUGH.

Bring back GWB. He was the perfect ratio of Presidential and Everyman.

I don't understand what you mean here. My go to example are antivaxxers who simply deny the data produced to show vaccine efficacy and safety is credible on one side, and BLM supporters who simply deny that police actually kills very few unarmed blacks per year, and doesn't kill proportionally more blacks than other ethnicities when accounting for police encounters (and not just % of people in the total population).

They simply deny the data produced by reputable sources on the topic are true , and / or deny the reputability of the sources.

There are other historical examples (like people asking for rent controls even after it's basically a scientific certainty they don't work at all to accomplish their goals, or people asking for tariffs, same things).

The problem with Bush is that he wanted to get into wars without plans.

I am significantly in the green but that's just because i have basically been out of american equities with few exceptions since SP500 hit 5500 a while ago, and i only have some pharmaceuticals bought at a discount that's to RFK nomination.

European equities which i have some had their best 3 months vs USA since like forever, that helped as well.

"experts" on this forum: MAGA is just blind loyalty to Trump whatever he does, there is no pushback when he makes stuff they disagree with or that is damaging!!!

reality

Rand Paul
@RandPaul
The stock market is comprised of millions of people who are simultaneously trading. The market indexes are a distillation of sentiment. When the markets tumble like this in response to tariffs, it pays to listen.

https://x.com/RandPaul/status/1899237461...

Damn that’s some harsh language from Rand!

Has someone asked Susan Collins if she’s concerned about this?

Rand Paul is not totally maga. He has always been a libertarian absolutist who is willing to sacrifice anything to push that direction. Isolating him as a demonstrative example of maga is pretty wild.

re: my earlier comment. You once told me that you don't trust medical or scientific experts b/c they are captured by leftist ideologies. The american right is a "facts are fake" movement. You cherry pick data constantly and ignore when it disproves your own arguments.

Trump orders 50% tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminium starting at midnight

wow he's basically dragging the USA and probably the world into recession because someone won't kowtow to him.

Delicate little snowflake doesn't even begin to cover it.

There's clearly going to be an uprising at some point, I'm just wondering how lethal it will be.

I don't trust leftist medical and scientific "experts" yes. On the topics that are politically controversial. It would be wrong to trust them after they have been proven bad faith fraudsters as a group hundreds of times.

Example (just to make the idea clear), remember the "experts" who after shouting 24/7 about covid dangerousness (grotesquely inflating it vs reality) went out claiming that BLM protests didn't increase the spread of covid?

“Staying at home, social distancing, and public masking are effective at minimizing the spread of COVID-19. To the extent possible, we support the application of these public health best practices during demonstrations that call attention to the pervasive lethal force of white supremacy,” the letter says.

“However, as public health advocates, we do not condemn these gatherings as risky for COVID-19 transmission. We support them as vital to the national public health and to the threatened health specifically of Black people in the United States. We can show that support by facilitating safest protesting practices without detracting from demonstrators’ ability to gather and demand change. This should not be confused with a permissive stance on all gatherings, particularly protests against stay-home orders.”

//

Now who sane of mind wouldn't PERMANENTLY cancel them from their list of sources on anything even vaguely or tangentially touched by politics, forever for the rest of their miserable lives? them , and every single person who didn't criticize this letter as a monstrous , disastrous, obscene denial of reality.

Anything anyone who signed that letter or agreed with the letter ever produced in "science" has to be completly discarded as a source of truth in any topic that is even 1% political.

It was so vicious, so beyond disgusting, so horrific that they literally claimed that protesting for BLM was ok for public health while protesting against lockdowns was not. It does make you a pariah for the rest of your life in my eyes yes, and i will never believe you can even act in good faith about anything forever. Not you, and not anyone who agreed with you.
//
I do not "cherry pick data", and leftists here (as everywhere) are the world leaders in arguing in complete, absolute bad faith absuing and torturing data every step of the way.

Apparently Trump will be speaking to a roundtable of business leaders and CEOs later today, where she says he will "tout his pro-growth economic agenda" and answer questions.

lol

She is criticizing various things related with the dismantling of federal agencies, mistreatment of federal employees and so on (but she isn't MAGA)
