Almost all crackpot theories have fallacious arguments for it that smart people won't fall for. Sometimes a smart person will believe in the theory. But if he is not delusional he will not claim that the arguments should sway good thinkers into thinking his theory is the favorite to be true. But the majority of those who believe in a crackpot theory do indeed think that those arguments should sway argument evaluators, and they couldn't think that if they were smart. (another exception is, of course Einstein).

When they did hire her back I stopped asking her to hang out because I am her boss. She didn't like this. Now she is working in a very awkward environment. She divulged to HR private conversations we had as consensual adults over the summer. She accused me of crazy things that I could easily disprove with text messages. She took a kill shot and missed.

Trying repeatedly to get with a furloughed subordinate employee because you thought she would never be asked to return to work is awkward at best.
