President Donald Trump

I assume it's still acceptable to have a Trump thread in a Politics forum?

So this is an obvious lie - basically aimed at

Trump was sometimes mockingly portrayed as an orange ape of some sort during his first term.

No surprise this would be your take on it.

This is extreme semantic nittery. I'm sure that he meant that he gives them room to be who they are, which his parents categorize as "enabling."

if it's that simple, then let's let gorg answer the question shall we

Portraying folks one doesn't like as monkeys or donkeys pretty much is a nothingburger in my opinion. Was a common trope in the days of political cartoons in newspapers.

I'm sorry you are literally stuck in the past.

Come on.....

It's also a centuries-old racist trope against black people. Lemme guess... you think Tim Scott, a black Republican Trump bootlicker, saying "it's the most racist thing he's ever seen from this White House" is just being "uppity," amirite?

I remember when Howard Cosell, who was a champion of civil rights, essentially was fired for saying "look at that little monkey go" when a black player made a spectacular touchdown run during Monday Night Football.

Footage from a MNF game years earlier showed him using that same expression for a white player making an amazing run.

He even said that the term "little monkey" was a term of endearment he used with his grandkids.

As for Trump, he for sure was trying to be as provocative as possible with his portrayal of the Obama's.

That's some platinum-level false equivalence right there

“Racism against black people has never affected my life, therefore this is a nothingburger.”

Edit: “Oh wait, one time Howard Cosell was fired and that really stuck in my craw.”

Bad guess, buddy.

I went back and looked and apparently he is asking me that for some reason. You'd have to ask my parents how I'm enabling them. It's their claim, not mine. I suspect they mean by simply not treating them like the "garbage they are" (making it clear that these are their words, not mine), but I don't exactly quiz them over their disgusting bigotry.

“Racism against black people has never affected my life, therefore this is a nothingburger.”

I neither said or implied such a thing.

Does this logic extend infinitely? Would your answer be the same if the Obamas were depicted as apes with enormous exaggerated lips who were eating fried chicken and watermelon while dancing foolishly for the amusement of a white audience?

Honestly, gtfo with this nonsense.

That’s exactly what you implied.

Citing a dictionary definition isn't a great rebuttal to my speculation that you were engaging in semantic nittery in response to a post that I suspect you correctly interpreted with little or no difficulty.

Lol at "Howard Cosell called white and black people monkeys, therefore Trump meant nothing racist by depicting the Obamas as monkeys."

The problem with Tim Scott saying this is that this maybe breaks the top 5 of racist things this White House has done. Its definitely not the most racist thing they've done or said so far

It's ok because the white people were portrayed as zookeepers with whips that were guarding their cages. That's just as bad.

lol what is rick on about now?

by rickroll

it wasn’t an attack on his values, it was pointing out how he centers himself in everything. this flavors all of his posting here - where in his mind, he’s so morally perfect that disagreement can only be explained as hatred or stupidityeven gay people only exist by his good grace. they’re not just gay, they’re gay because he “enables” them.t

found it hahahahahahahaha

My parents said it, dumbass. I didn't LOL

Did he seriously think I was saying that I thought I enabled gay people??? Good lord what on earth

And I didn't respond because I don't read 99% of the trash he posts.

Correct move to not read rickroll's posts: CONFIRMED

by Land O Lakes

Lol at "Howard Cosell called white and black people monkeys, therefore Trump meant nothing racist by depicting the Obamas as monkeys."

I'm doing nothing more or less than pointing out that using monkeys as a symbol for folks you don't like (regardless of race or ethnicity) is not uncommon.

That said, Trump is a horrible person and of course knows that a monkey can be used specifically to mock black people. Trump looking for maximum impact, and he got what he wanted.

by Gorgonian

lol what is rick on about now?

It was somewhat ambiguous whether the word "enable" in your original post was a word you were using to describe your own behavior or a word your parents were using to describe your behavior.

Either way, it was obvious that you were guilty at most of using the word "enable" imprecisely. I refuse to believe that rick actually thought you were claiming that you conferred upon your friends the capacity to be gay.

by Rococo

Your example here would certainly be an unambiguously racist trope.

Honestly, gtfo with this nonsense.

Honestly, please don't tell me what to do. That's coordi's, CN's and my landlord's job!! 😀

And you claimed that this depiction of black people as apes was a nothingburger despite the bolded, which is incomprehensible to me. Context matters. History matters.

No it wasn't.
