President Donald Trump
I assume it's still acceptable to have a Trump thread in a Politics forum?
So this is an obvious lie - basically aimed at
He lit a fuse when the first parking garage foundation was laid. Eventually that fuse reached the charge. It was inevitable.
I know I shouldn't even hint at defending his Atlantic City behavior, but operating a casino isn't a guarantee that you'll simply print money unless you have exclusive rights to operate casinos in that viable market. Maybe he even thought it would work anyway. But as thethethe said, he's fine with a churn and burn strategy, too. Whatever, onward to the next scheme with
I agree... a casino is like any other business, and you have to compete against other people trying to incentivize people to lose their money at their building. It's not a guarantee. It appeared to be mostly a front operation as FinCEN fined him twice for obvious money laundering.
I kinda went the opposite way than you. Yes, the president is mostly a figurehead, but they still have power. In 16' I had full confidence his incompetence would be his primary demise... which it was. In 24' though... I knew the people using him, behind him, were much better prepared, and they had a much clearer blueprint. Plus a lot more slime came out of woodwork, because they realized how truly transactional Trump is, and they can use this as an opportunity to manipulate the government in their favor. That's where we got the Elon's (who took care of all the investigations into his businesses), and the ideologues like thiel, and the Christian nationalist. Couple that w/ removing any of the last guardrails, and installing more sycophants and loyalist, and you're getting full destruction mode, Trump 2.0.
His incompetence will still be a hindrance, but it might not matter if enough destruction is done.
Marketwatch headlines are brutal.
U.S. stocks poised for biggest two-day wipeout in history as market loses $9.6 trillion since Inauguration Day.
The bankruptcy angle is used as an attack by people who don't really understand corporate bankruptcy laws.
Trump is and has always been willing to walk directly up to any lines and maybe even get some toes across them. Bankruptcy is a tool to be wielded. If you can deal with the consequences, it can be quite effective.
Scummy, but effective.
Jeebus. You end by admitting it's scummy. How about not voting for someone scummy?
(bankruptcy is fine for someone who needs it, but yeah, planning to use it and not even trying or even intending to pay off your debts is scummy)
Great. Now how about the 80 million people who did vote for the scumbag?
A lot of them are really happy that he already fulfilled the promise to secure the border (encounters are at multi decade lows) proving among other things that the invasion was allowed on purpose by people who at this point we can't but consider traitors of the country.
For some (many?) people that's more existential than temporary stockmarket prices.
Also egg prices are finally down and gasoline will follow soon, check WTI oil prices
Is this finally the time for EU to turn towards the east?
China is going to go hard on promoting trade with EU.
It would make me very happy to see the USA eat its hat, sorry for half the country but you cannot keep going like this.

What do you mean by "finally"? Germany became dependant on Russian gas and sold infinite machinery to China for many years, that ALREADY HAPPENED man.
They got crushed when they couldn't buy gas anymore and China shifted a bit toward pumping internal consumption instead of the old model of "factories and real estate for the win" with no regards to domestic demand .
"Finally", lol Germany-china trade historical graph looks like this

Germany has been one of the few countries worldwide with a positive balance of trade vs china for like a decade pre COVID. "Finally"

That's quite the leap in logic.
I live in a pretty conservative area and have basically never met anyone who’s changed their mind on trump to even the extent that InSoo apparently has.
“This guy is too stupid and crazy to trust being president” is about as good as you’re going to get as far as people admitting they were wrong at all. Might be the most effective way to change someone’s mind imo.
I didn't imply they didn't trade .
Democracy and macro-economy isn't a big selling point, the price of eggs and false claims of cat-eating is. Apparently it works, even when you admit to lying about the cat-eating.
Basically my answer to your question is that I have no idea.
There are about 65 minutes left before the markets close. That is if it doesn't fall another 2% to trigger a halt. That would be some way to end "Liberation Week" with the stock market not only halting for 15 minutes, but actually closing early for rest of day.
Is "Liberation Day" anything like "Judgement Day" from the terminator movies? About 10 trillion dollars has been killed.
I may be misremembering, but I don't think halts can trigger in the last hour of trading.

America is liberated from it's 401k's.
I feel bad for people who didn't understand this was coming. I put in here a warning over 4 months ago. I sold ALL my tech stock 4 months ago (at peak), and most of my other industry stocks ~3 months ago. Literally emptied my portfolio except for a couple of smaller cap stocks. I also sold nearly all my crypto at over 102k. Moved it all into high yield interest accounts until things settle down.
Diehards that didn't see the signs, or wanted to stay on board though... ouch.
I place anyone that didn't vote for Harris in the same category as directly voting for Trump. They share responsibility for this. Maybe not equally, close enough for me.
Voting for the lesser of two evils is perfectly cromulent, but the kind of "with us or against us" thinking behind a lot of the "not voting for Harris is the same as voting for Trump" attitude is exactly as fascist as Trump and his supporters are.
