British Politics

Been on holiday for a few weeks, surprised to find no general discussion of British politics so though I'd kick one off.

Here's the original article on that:--

A US university research project identified about 80 high-volume pro-Indy X accounts, often with AI avatar pics and unconvincing stereotyped bios like 'Ex-NHS Nurse' and 'Glaswegian Socialist', which generated a remarkable proportion of Indy X traffic and appeared to be Iranbots. And they abruptly went dark after the Israeli bombing that took out much of Iran's internet connectivity.

If true, it kind of confirms what has often been said about, for instance, Brexit-monkeys on social media: that foreign intelligence services do this kind of thing to play up divisions in national politics. Whether it really makes much difference to anything is hard to say.

Bold isn't the only possibility. It might just be that they think they gain if countries fracture themselves.

I'm sure they do think that.

Join the club: UK seeks to band up with like-minded nations amid Trump’s trade war

“They recognize that the world is changing,” PM Keir Starmer said.

...

At a recent meeting in Korea, CPTPP members committed to work with the EU and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations — a regional grouping of 10 states in Southeast Asia — to liberalize global trade in light of “significant challenges” facing the international trading environment.

This could include discussions on areas such as tariffs, digital trade, rules of origin, supply chains, customs administration and innovation, the Trade Strategy said, adding that these dialogues could “create a platform for other trade-focused economies to participate, so broadening our network of collaborative partnerships.

Starmer is slowly learning that even the right wing PLP have their limits when it comes to aping the Tories.

Looks like Starmer is backing down from sticking it to the disabled.

What on earth possessed them to even start that.

Not taxing the better off + silly fiscal rules leaves no options but the awful. That was even before the defense spedning bonanza

Or those magical growth beans

Baroness Casey disagrees:

So is ethnicity a factor on why some people deem it appropriate to throw gay people off buildings or remove the genitals of teenage girls?

if not, what is it?

Just caught this now. They probably didn't wish to reveal the ethnicity as it would inflame the far right. Not saying they were right not to, just a probable reason, which of course is counter productive. They do the same over my way. If a crime is committed by an Irish person, the media over my way are now saying it was committed by "white Irish male". If they don't say this, then the general opinion is that it was done by non Irish/white.

Re your second point- wasn't that done by ISIS wrt gays? They're basically the Muslim version of the Khmer Rouge and a pack of savages, so what do you expect? FGM is a cultural thing sure. Define ethnicity. Do you mean in the broadest sense or in terms of nationality or race? If you also mean culture then yeah sure and it has absolutely no 0place in secular free society, no question. That doesn't mean such things are practiced or condoned by all from the same background though. Same way as the majority of Pakistanis aren't part of grooming gangs. That doesn't mean the background of offenders should be covered up either as I happen to disagree with that.

But I really wish people could just call out wrong 'uns without tarring everyone else with the same brush.

There are countries with 95% + FGM rates.

And?

And?

And then almost everyone from those countries has a culture which is completely and utterly incompatible with ours

I never claimed FGM was compatible with western culture.

Starmer looking more and more likely to be replaced before the next GE.

Complete disaster of a "leader".

It's weird - as someone who doesn't live in the UK anymore, I actually like him because he's an adult, and those have been lacking on the international stage in recent years.

But then Mrs Thatcher also did pretty well on the "popular with people who don't have to live under her" test too.

tbh, your culture doesn't sound much like anyone's culture here.

Italian "culture" in a nutshell: The Mafia owns the whole country and there's only fat, scared cowards like Lucy.

Palestine Action has been granted an urgent high court hearing on Friday to try to prevent a banning order against it from coming into effect.

An order was laid before parliament on Monday that would proscribe the group as a terrorist organisation, making being a member of or inviting support for Palestine Action a criminal offence carrying a maximum sentence of 14 years in jail.

The move, announced by the home secretary, Yvette Cooper, last week, would place Palestine Action alongside the likes of al-Qaida, Islamic State and National Action. The move has been criticised as draconian by protest groups, civil liberties organisations and various politicians.

Im pushed to think who would be a good labour leader. Hilary Benn? Don't think he's the tiniest bit interested though.

Without a policy platform it'snever going to be good and it barely matters who's leader

I suspect rumours of starmers politcal death may be exaggerated. The shakesperian tragedy has acts to come

You look for a leader who is policy-led.

It's hard to see anyone policy-driven though. Burnham seems to be positioning himself as the "Oh I wouldn't have done that" candidate without ever saying much about what he would do, probably because he doesn't have much of an idea of how to fix this country either.

I agree but that has to start with policies.

I think starmer would be quite good if had a proper policy platform.

I'm using the definition of ethnicity than everyone uses, and it incorporates race, religion and culture. So it's absolutely true to say ethnicity is a factor in raping young girls, throwing gay people of buildings, and FGM.

Did you read the second part of my post?

If you also mean culture then yeah sure and it has absolutely no place in secular free society, no question.

That said, you absolutely positively sure you're not dog whistling here? In terms of race?

Not sure if there's many or indeed any ISIS members in the UK. They were the ones throwing gays off buildings and I'm pretty sure they're not considered an acceptable group in other Muslim countries.

You asked me a question and I answered it. I quoted the second part of your post, so yes I did read it.

Quite positive. For example, Pakistani and Indian people are the same race, but not the same ethnicity. It the ethnic differences that cause them to constantly be at loggerheads, whether that be in Asia or Leicester.
