British Politics
Been on holiday for a few weeks, surprised to find no general discussion of British politics so though I'd kick one off.
Tory leadership contest is quickly turning into farce. Trump has backed Boris, which should be reason enough for anyone with half a brain to exclude him.
Of the other candidates Rory Stewart looks the best of the outsiders. Surprised to see Cleverly and Javid not further up the betting, but not sure the Tory membership are ready for a brown PM.

Regarding the LD leadership contest, Jo Swinson is miles ahead of any other candidate (and indeed any of the Tory lot). Should be a shoe in.
Finally, it's Groundhog Day in Labour - the more serious the anti-Semitism claims get, the more Corbyn's cronies write their own obituary by blaming it on outlandish conspiracy theories - this week, it's apparently the Jewish Embassy's fault...
The conflict is very likely only theoretical in this case though, unless he’s put a huge amount of money on it I guess (I don’t know the actual amount). I’m assuming it was just a silly emotional hedge on his part.
Obviously it doesn’t look great, but probably no one would have cared (or even found out) if it wasn’t for the election date betting stuff.
They should all be sacked or de-selected. Even if this is normal election behaviour by the in-the-knows then I'm glad it's been rooted out.
Maybe this is the one silver lining from the Johnson cloud of corruption.
Mite awkward. Police have arrested a Labour member, a man in his 20s, on suspicion of sending those 'Charlie' and 'Abi' honeytrap messages in female guise on WhatsApp.
Thee people of Islington North are working class mainly, and trad Labour rather than progressive left.
Unfortuantely many wont realise that labour and Corby are not the same thing.
On the other hand, while some might crow at JC being outside the labour party, it means he can become a force within the 'we deserve better' movement.
Corbyn spearheading any kind of 'we deserve better' movement is like the Elephant Man having a beauty and good looks youtube channel.
I doubt he would be a spearhead but he has a great deal of support across the country.
We need to mobalise about 15% (maybe less) to force labour to return to the left.
But it must be a nightmare for Rishi that this is what is taking the airwaves not his policies or campaigning.
I think he's just trolling the tory party at this point.

That's quite insulting to the electorate there. ffs Corbyn's been their MP since the '83 election. I think they know who he is and he's been a very good constituency MP, but party loyalties are hard to break.

That single bet might be "ok" but it would be a lot clearer for everyone if all bets on politics were banned for these people. They have similar rules in place for football.
eg An MP bets early on his party winning the next GE. They do well in the polls and their odds drop a lot. Is the MP now allowed to trade off for a guaranteed profit by betting against his party?

They're likely to be the official opposition so let's quickly check up on what the Lib Dems have been up to:

I want a Tory Wipeout Bingo poster
If another party were to replace the Conservatives (and we know which party that would be, or at least which party is aiming at that), it would be worse.
The Labour party are replacing the Conservatives, for the next Parliament anyway.

Wandered into the local tool hire shop this week as I'm doing some stuff on the house. Bloke at the counter started chatting about the election and asked who I'm voting for. I said Green, he said him and all the lads there voting for "Farage".
Think they are on course for a bigger % than the Tories.
Also think they are at the stage where the tories vote has bottomoed out and they are not taking Labour votes. That's certainly how it looks in some polls.

Also just seen the Biden clips. JFC . Trump is going to walk the US election.
Heh I just watched some of the highlights of the Biden Trump debate. It certainly made me feel better about UK politics.
omg it was basically a wizened, wheezy Bunsen Honeydew vs Homelander's leather-skinned dad.
