The "LOLCANADA" thread...again
So what's new?
I've noticed the Liberals are now ahead in all major polls and Trudeau hasn't even started to campaign yet...i'd be shocked if they lost the election now.
Just shows just how incompetent Conservatives are.
Ontario Conservative Premier Doug Ford has announced a 25% tax on electricity going into the USA starting Monday
NDP leader Singh has announced he will no longer bring down the Government at the first opportunity with his party estimated to win single digit seats, leaving the fate of a spring election up to the new Liberal PM
—and that is just the stuff we know about, thanks largely to media investigations. Who knows what they missed.
I mean we famously have terrible relations with China at the moment because our politicians are not rolling over to them. Look at the **** show that is happening in the states due to rampant disinformation campaigns being run both internally and by foreign actors.

Relatively things seem pretty sanguine to me. I don’t see Canadians booing the Chinese flag or politicians Calling for trade wars with china.
Between this freak out and canadas own aspirations to be a police state, china just seems a better fit as a partner than the US in a multipolar world.
—and that is just the stuff we know about, thanks largely to media investigations. On top of a giant trade deficit Trudeau actually went to China to allegedly try to fix, and they made it clear who was the boss and sent him packing.
And Who knows what pro china shenanigans the media missed.
Sorry, which of the things in that list is the Liberals choosing to sell out to China? Of course China does bad ****. The liberals are firmly opposed to it and have been working to fight against it. Read the foreign interference report in its full. You can decry bad chinese actions, but to suggest that the liberals are in bed with it trying to sell out canada is ridiculous.

"aspirations to be a police state"
Someone's been drinking the cool-aid. Go live south where they are taking away the right to protest. If the GoC has one issue, it's that they are too soft on trying to please everyone at the cost of the greater good. Forcing through their policies via authoritarian action aint it.

I had a feeling he was going to do this . Man is a bigger weasel than the PM .
Hey we can agree on something. He is a weasel and a terrible leader of the party. Also obviously he was going to do this, NDP is dead in the water and he's at least decent enough to see that PP is a hilariously underqualified intellectual midget and helping him would be like pulling the trigger yourself.
So the countries that cool and calm play the game with Trump, such as Japan and Mexico, it works out better than the ones that go into moral outrage histrionics.
Who would have guessed that?
Well now Canada has the identical pause on USMCA products as mexical. Remember when I said patience? THat was so you guys didn't look like idiots pre-judging Trudeau in the couple hours between announcements for mexico and for canada.
another dub boys. I guess it just pure market manipulation at this point

alright like im swinging back pro Trudeau these days but orange man really hates him. this is despite Trudeau. Orange man weak. You could tell he was so mad at him he was giga pressured into doing it and almost didn't. what a cannon
This is really good speech. Trudeau gets emotional in one of his last press conferences. And in the backdrop of the US craziness, he actually moved forward on his legacy this week with the extended deals on the child care agreements with provinces. Sure, Poilievre can erases these agreements. But this makes it harder to do.
Trudeau is quite the statesman under pressure. I think a lot of the personal hate for him is way out of line but it's totally valid to say that there has been a lack of cohesive economic policies under him and that our stunted growth is damning.
I look forward to the idea of Carney who seems to have an excellent blend of core Canadian values and global economic knowledge. We need economy first while doing what we can to not compromise our values.

Where exactly would Canada boo the Chinese flag? The next game between the Ottawa Senators and the Chengdu Coyotes?

Jameet's numbers are so low because Canadians see him for what he is Justin's little bixch
Sorry Pierre is by far the most capable candidate now. Reality is you can not believe a thing Carney says and his ill balance the budget with my own set of newly formed accounting principles
No ive known this for a while

Oh he is a drama queen for sure and his acting skills are some of the best among politicians . Watch he will still on till past the G7 in Banff /Canmore

Ok. Or - shocker - at the end of his prime ministeral run, while under attack from the US, launching his final legacy defining policy, and about to step down on sunday, he would actually genuinely feel emotion and that showing this emotion isn't a drama queen fake.
You don't need to be endlessly cynical.
And just lol at thinking he is still around for the G7.
I think a better question is where is Canada going to sell it? Thanks to people like Uke and Quebec the East coast has no access to Alberta energy. Our only real market is the USA. If our leaders were serious and not using this "trade war" as theatre we would be calling parliament back, emergency actions to eliminate provincial trade barriers, build pipelines and pause any unnecessary taxes. But our leaders are incompetent and are instead pulling liquor off the shelves and treating it like the m
I bet you don’t even now why eastern pipeline been rejected …
And things change .
Like u said , only kids think the present is A good representation of the infinite future .., which you fill in just nicely .
Like a teenager thinking because a parent said no to a party , his life is ruin for Ever afterwards …
As thrilled as I am that tariffs are paused on the USMCA products (a little hundred half of imports), reduced on potash etc, I actually feel worse by a wide margin this month than last month. I think it has come clearer that this ISN"T just a gambit to get a few border concessions, but a long term thing he genuinely believes for many countries and while I doubt the April 2nd deadline is exactly what it appears right now, I think the idea that it is all going away is getting less and less likely. I guess I'm hoping we get to something more like 10%, and that it is applying much more broadly than singling out canada specifically.

No Trump should honor the trade agreement he signed and we need an election called next week so we have a strong government to negotiate with the USA whether it’s Carney or Pierre
I don't really understand the "strong government". Like what fundamental thing is changing if it is either of those. They both advocate for a similar approach to the crisis with countertariffs. There's a bit of divergence happening in how their plan to support workers (poilievre being a bit more on the side of limited supports and tax cuts of course). One can debate that, but not clear it makes a substantially better argument. It's hard to know the conversations and diplomatic work, but superficially trudeau and his team have been doing very well in a very hard situation, and not obvious to me that either Carney or Poilievre can do substantially better. Like yes I think it is broadly speaking time for a new mandate, but I don't think it is going to magically change the situation much.
tbh Trump is probably waiting for Trudeau to be gone so that he can claim credit for chasing him off.
I also think there is some deeper plotting by some of his advisors to test the waters on taking Canada at some point. They've been promoting this false narrative of Canada being socialist, authoritarian, and oppressive to its citizens for a while. Woke disease, mexican cartels, we gotta save them from themselves.

I agree with this.
I think a related theme can be found in how Trump announced the pause on tariffs with Mexico. He was overly complimentary and respectful, and announced the Mexican pause 1st. Plus Mexico had not responded yet. The behaved well and Trumped patted them on the head and gave them a bone.
On the other hand, Trump hates Trudeau. If Trump has any concessions in mind they will probably be announced about 10 minutes after talking with Trudeau's replacement. If Trump has to concede some ground he'll paint Trudeau as the barrier to this being sorted from the beginning - that Trudeau never wanted a deal.(sound familiar....Zelensky not wanting peace).
So, yes, I think Trudeau is doing fine, but the big breakthrough (if one is coming) won't come from Trump with Trudeau in office.
I do think Carney would do better one on one with Trump than Poilievre would because Trump might see a business/economic peer in Carney, especially if Carney butters him up.
I can't see Trump taking Poilievre seriously. He'd see him as a non-MAGA conservative, and Trump despises them more than democrats.
Hey shifty , cigarettes doesn’t kill but alcohol do and is more dangerous huh ?
Probably why we see settlement of 32 billions dollars from cigarettes makers and 0$ for alcohol makers right ?
https://www.cbc.ca/amp/1.7477141
A historic deal that calls for three major tobacco companies to pay out billions in compensation to provinces and territories as well as former smokers across Canada has cleared its final legal hurdle in Ontario, bringing a decades-long court saga to a close.
Ontario Superior Court Chief Justice Geoffrey Morawetz approved the $32.5-billion plan in a ruling released Thursday, hailing the milestone as a "momentous achievement in Canadian restructuring history."
The settlement was first proposed in October after years of mediation between the companies — JTI-Macdonald Corp., Rothmans, Benson & Hedges and Imperial Tobacco Canada Ltd. — and their creditors, which include plaintiffs in two Quebec class-action lawsuits as well as provincial and territorial governments seeking to recoup smoking-related health-care costs.
Yeah ban alcohol lol…
Poor shifty .
