Edit: RULES FOR THIS THREAD
Posting guidelines for Politics and Soci...
These are our baselines. We're not reinventing the wheel here. If you aren't sure if something is acceptable to post, its better to ask first. If you think someone is posting something that violates the above guidelines, please report it or PM me rather than responding in kind.
To reiterate some of the points:
1. No personal attacks. This is a broad instruction, but, in general, we want to focus on attacking an argument rather than the poster making it. It is fine to say a post is antisemitic; it is not okay to call someone an antisemite over and over. If you believe someone is making antisemitic posts, report them or PM me. The same goes for calling people "baby killers" and "genocide lovers". You are allowed to argue that an action supports genocide or that the consequences of certain policies results in the death of children, but we are no longer going to be speaking to one another's intentions. It is not productive to the conversation and doesn't further any debate.
2. Racist posts and other bigoted statements that target a particular group or individuals of such groups with derogatory comments are not allowed. This should not need further explanation.
3. Graphic Images need to be in spoilers with a trigger warning.
4. Wishing Harm on other posters will result in an immediate timeout.
5. Genocidal statements such as "Kill 'em all" etc, are no longer permissible in the thread.
If anyone has any questions about the above, please PM me. I don't want a discussion about the rules to derail the content of this thread. If anything needs clarifying, I will do that in this thread.
Please be aware this thread is strictly moderated
How it is playing out now is that Trump is more pro Israel than Biden which was already quite pro Israel.
I've posted the April 2024 poll where 47% of people < 30 who identify as Democrats are pro-Pal and 7% are pro-Israel. In addition to the horrific look of the general's plan and the many exposes that simply compile what Israelis (ostensibly civilized first-worlders) think is normal on social media, a lot of the propaganda--hyperbolic accounts of what happened on 10/7, hannibal directive being an antisemitic conspiracy theory--have been exposed since then, so I'm sure the gap has only widened.
I almost don't blame Israel for having such an insanely bad long-term strategy, as pure force of funding/arms/propaganda seemed to be working so well for years, but the time has definitely come to do some damage control and get the country back on a more sane trajectory. If the polls are telling us anything, it's that the internet has rendered the old way of doing things obsolete.

Leftist under30 can be all pro pal, but they also tend to be pro trans people, pro "the climate", pro higher taxes and so on.
Meaning they will never vote republican anyway which is why... Democrats can disregard their preferences about Israel.
Meanwhile there are many over50 moderates that are adamantly pro Israel and will vote republican if the democrat candidate becomes fully pro pal.
That's politics with a 2 party system
why are these guys carrying a large David Star?

Why the need for damage control? Israel has completely transformed the Middle East in the last year and a half. Their not so good neighbors are about to get evicted. Hezbollah has been neutered. Iran is no longer a threat. Israel is doing just fine. Did you see how giddy Bibi was when he met with Trump? Also, do you really think Israel cares or ever has cared about liberal opinion polls? It's this lack of support that makes it essential that Jews have their own country. This is a very small country and yet people don't want them to even have that. This just makes Israel stronger and more willing to fight for their survival.
Have you seen all of the footage? Have you talked to the witnesses? Have you talked to the victims? I have a feeling you are not looking for any information that will ruin your current narrative.
I’m having a hard time deciding if the irony of your overall grasp on this conflict is beautiful or sickening.
Contrary to popular Zionist propaganda, history does not start on Oct 7th.
What I did see was a country built on a massive lie that was used to murder and displace hundreds of thousands of people, disgustingly create and push a false narrative of 40 beheaded babies and then use that as justification to murder and displace hundreds of thousands more.
That’s all the info I need, tyvm.

The history didn't necessarily start on Oct 7th but you can argue that Gazan history pretty much ended on that day.

I'm not sure what you are having a hard time with. Hamas took babies, old women etc. They took young kids who were just enjoying a music festival. They took people just enjoying their day on the kibbutz. I'd say this is the sickening.

My guess would be intense internalized racism clashing with the reality of what is unfolding. Seeing Jews “winning” sends a lot of people into panic mode.
or it could be that Israel snipes toddlers and uses 80 year olds as human shields before executing them.

What I have a hard time with is when you conveniently leave out or forget the fact that a number of the people taken hostage serve in the IOF and then say things like
You know every one of the hostages personally and can attest that the ones who serve in the IOF didn’t break into a Palestinian home in the middle of the night on Oct 3rd just to terrorize a family? Or that none of them have ever humiliated a parent in front of their child at a checkpoint just to show their muscle and control over them? Yes, I’m sure every single one of them were completely innocent and perfect model citizens. Gimme a break.
On a positive note, I absolutely agree that taking elderly or children captive is not only unjustified but vile to say the least. I have no problem calling a spade a spade, and I couldn’t possibly care any less who the purporter or victim is. Let’s try something new and maybe not turn a blind eye to Israel literally doing the same thing on a much larger scale over a period of decades.
Go ahead and keep lying to yourself about how the 500+ children held in Israeli captivity without charge or trial are “detainees” but how the Israeli ones in Gaza are “hostages”
My guess would be intense internalized racism clashing with the reality of what is unfolding. Seeing Jews “winning” sends a lot of people into panic mode.
Seems to me like Israel was gifted billions to “destroy” Hamas and in turn made the resistance 5x stronger. The government is on the brink of collapse and the country is at serious risk of a civil war. It’s hard to imagine how pathetic you must be, not only to consider this as “winning” but to suggest that mine or anyone else’s criticism of this pathetic state has anything whatsoever to do with Jews, or any other faith.

You’re living in an alternate reality.
Or this is some wishful thinking.
Nobody is saying it did and you just made that up. There was a ceasefire which Hamas violated on Oct 07, like they've violated pretty much every ceasefire. This is hand waved away by pro Palestinian far leftists, just as the atrocities of Oct 07, because Israel Bad.
Unlike Israel, Hamas didn't send any warnings to Israeli civilians before their attack, they just gleefully murdered as many Jews as they could and then proudly posed with corpses of murdered 22-year-old ravers, like they were on safari...which is also hand waved away by the far left.
You lot constantly smear and demonise the one democracy in the region, where Arabs have far more freedom than Arabs in Gaza. Where gays and lesbians can be gay and lesbian, without being persecuted. Where elections are held, where FGM is outlawed.
You disregard that there could have been a two state solution decades ago, if only the Palestinians were willing to share and compromise, like every single other group which engaged in every single other negotiation ever. You disregard the evident genocidal meaning of "From the River to the Sea" and engage in mental gymnastics instead to explain how it really doesn't mean that because reasons. Whenever you lot actually bother to condemn Hamas- and always only when challenged, never proactively- it's almost as an aside and always with a "BUT" attached, with the implication that their atrocities are really justified because Israel Bad.
And contrary to far left pro Hamas propaganda, Israel are going nowhere and River to the Sea is never gonna happen.
Utterly morally barren behaviour and justifications, due to an apparent hatred of Israel.
where FGM is outlawed
lol is this the new talking point?
they dont practice FGM in Palestine. do a quick google search before spewing the bad faith.
I don't need to google it because all Muslims practice FGM amirite?
Iran and the gang are probably wishing they had ole genocide Joe back.
