You realize that Israel was literally fighting HTS on the side of the Druze, and it was Trump (and Qatar and turkey) that ordered them to stand down.

Israel heavily bobbing Damascus right now, despite Victor's proclamations HTS is supported by Israel. Given Israel has to be the bad guy in narrative, it will be interesting to see how Victor reshapes the narrative to make HTS the good guy given he has been calling them ISIS the last 2 years.

That being said, Qatar, Turkey, Trump and Europe are allied with HTS to various degrees, and would prefer to just hear no evil, see no evil when they or allies attack other communities. But Israel coming to the active defense of the Druze so aggresively is going to make this impossible. So will be interesting to see how these various actors respond.

That being said, the Druze community in Israel and Syria do seem supporting of Israel's actions, so Netanyahu is probably balancing the potential benefits of Israel strengthening their relationship with this community with the potential fallout from the other actors listed above.

HTS are not the good guys lol. and you gotta be born yesterday to think Israel is "defending the Druze". they are trying to expand bc they are a genocidal expansionist state fully reliant on theft and murder.

Clearly Israel liked the Assad ousting, so in that sense they were in support of HTS. As you alluded to, backing the Druze is good for legitimizing the annexation of the Golan and parts of southern Syria. Given that Victor views Israel as an expansionist colonial ethnostate, I don't think he'll have too much trouble with that challenge.

Israel probably would have been just as happy if Assad stayed in power of a severely weakened state, where they had carte Blanche to attack Syria under the rationale they were attacking the IRGC in Syria.

Syria becoming a unified Turkish proxy under HTS is not in Israel’s interest. In some ways it is a much worse problem than Syria being a IRGc proxy, as turkey is much more formidable conventional militarily than Iran.

If anything, HTs taking over was an unintended and unwanted effect of their efforts to destabilize IRGC influence working too well.

And Druze in Israel who are Israeli citizens are sneaking into Syria to defend Syrian Jews from the pogroms.

And Druze leaders in Israel are actively calling for Israel to get involved. And Druze are an important ally to Netanyahu right wing coalition who serve in the military, unlike Arabs.

So there are legitimate domestic and humanitarian reasons why Israel is getting involved.

Russia has taken around 1600 square miles of Ukraine in the last 3 years. Israel has taken 50 square miles of West Bank/Syria/Jordan/Lebanon combined in last 30 years. That is 1/10 the size of Los Angeles, to give a comparison.

Of course, the Western media being compromised and dishonest as it is, will frame this as Israel attacking Syria for no good reason.
