Edit: RULES FOR THIS THREAD
Posting guidelines for Politics and Soci...
These are our baselines. We're not reinventing the wheel here. If you aren't sure if something is acceptable to post, its better to ask first. If you think someone is posting something that violates the above guidelines, please report it or PM me rather than responding in kind.
To reiterate some of the points:
1. No personal attacks. This is a broad instruction, but, in general, we want to focus on attacking an argument rather than the poster making it. It is fine to say a post is antisemitic; it is not okay to call someone an antisemite over and over. If you believe someone is making antisemitic posts, report them or PM me. The same goes for calling people "baby killers" and "genocide lovers". You are allowed to argue that an action supports genocide or that the consequences of certain policies results in the death of children, but we are no longer going to be speaking to one another's intentions. It is not productive to the conversation and doesn't further any debate.
2. Racist posts and other bigoted statements that target a particular group or individuals of such groups with derogatory comments are not allowed. This should not need further explanation.
3. Graphic Images need to be in spoilers with a trigger warning.
4. Wishing Harm on other posters will result in an immediate timeout.
5. Genocidal statements such as "Kill 'em all" etc, are no longer permissible in the thread.
If anyone has any questions about the above, please PM me. I don't want a discussion about the rules to derail the content of this thread. If anything needs clarifying, I will do that in this thread.
Please be aware this thread is strictly moderated
Yossi Melman, a co-author of Spies Against Armageddon and other books on Israeli intelligence, emphasised that it appeared the exploding pagers had been “recently supplied”, and added: “We know that Mossad is able to penetrate and infiltrate Hezbollah time and time again,” he added. But he questioned the strategic wisdom of the attack, in which a 10-year-old girl died.
“It enhances the chance of an escalation of the border crisis into a war,” Melman warned, and argued it was “more of a sign of panic” because, while he said it showed an extraordinary ability to strike at the heart of Hezbollah, it was neither very targeted, nor would it would change the wider strategic picture. “I don’t see any advance in it,” he concluded.
At the very least, Melman argued, some sort of response from Hezbollah was likely. Earlier on Tuesday it had emerged that the Iran-aligned Lebanese group, who have been engaged in a violent tit-for-tat with Israel for months, had, according to Israel’s Shin Bet domestic security service, planned to kill a former Israeli security official by remotely detonating an explosive device from Lebanon.

to answer my own question on timing. Maybe it's just part of an escalation with whatever hezbullah does in retalliation becoming the narrative for what follows.
That's why I'm struggling with the timing If you were going to war wouldn't you set this off close to or after the moment of attack.
That's assuming as I am that hezbullah make significant use of these pagers (not assuming that all the pagers are used by hezbullah)
Bibi comes off as incredibly arrogant and a lot of his actions haven't made Israelis any safer.
Can't disagree with that. I'd put it much less mildly
disgusting terrorist attack. usa#1

It's possible some of their sources in the operation became compromised and Hez could have dumped the pagers so it became a use it or lose it situation.
How was this pulled off? Here are the theories
From CNN's Christian Edwards
Experts have shared two competing theories as to how hundreds of pagers could have exploded simultaneously.
One theory is that there was a cybersecurity breach, causing the pagers’ lithium batteries to overheat and detonate.
Another is that this was a “supply chain attack,” where the pagers were tampered with during the manufacturing and shipping process.
Without getting into the morals of collateral damage, what a creative operation. This throws so much of Hezbollah's communication into a tailspin and will have everyone looking over their shoulders on what's next.
Lol, if the roles were reversed this would 100% be called a terrorist attack by every newspaper. We have no idea the extent of civilian casualties and already the sickos here are brushing it off. I guess Bibi is going to get his war with Lebanon now though.
Why do you think this will cause war? Hezbollah has been the model of restraint.
Only real question is if he's also going to be allowed to drag Iran into the maelstrom of violence.
Between the pagers, the tendency for visitors to Iran to explode, and the way their scientists randomly die, it seems Bibi has provided Iran a decent incentive to sit this one out.
israel did a terrorist attack is the new russian talking point I guess? Do you guys who are saying this have a direct line of communication with the kremlin or just that gullible?
I don’t remember 9/11 being a response to active military aggression and being carried out against legitimate military targets.
Only real question is if he's also going to be allowed to drag Iran into the maelstrom of violence.
This would be one of the only reasons Israel may be waiting for elections which I don't buy into but the premise would be Trump could be easier to get to look the other way while Israel escalates into a regional war to make the US have a tough decision.

Sure, Iran is just sort of expected to sit there and take endless provocations from its bloodthirsty neighbors. They don't have the right to defend themselves, obv.
they just hate freedom. thats why the pagers of the entire hospital, construction, and paramedic structure exploded in their face. maybe now they will decide to like freedom.
If that statement was controversial to you then your opinions on Israel-Palestine and what constitutes evil or good military actions should be completely discarded
You think Al Qaeda attacked the financial and military centers of the world because Americans drink a lot and watch porn?

Wait hold on, do you think that Al Qaeda was the leader of any state at the time or even liked by any state except insofar as an enemy of your enemy can be used? Do you think that there was any type of active military conflict Al Qaeda was engaged in that made it so that the WTC was a legitimate target of war?

I'm not saying it was a legitimate target. I'm saying that nullifying civilian status because of the way people vote or pray is insane Bin Laden logic.
Exploding pagers is really just ****ing elite. wp wfp

oh now I see. when I use the term active military conflict and legitimate military target*, I’m not referring to the standards of Osama Bin Laden.
Also you might be surprised at just how much Western cultural decadence including jews and homosexuals were some of the stated reasons of OBL. Just read what he wrote yourself.

Hezbollah should outflank Netanyahu by stopping rocket attacks into Israel and retreating behind the armistice line they agreed to at the last ceasefire and have been violating for the last decade. That would really undercut whatever evil plan Netanyahu has to escalate.
