Edit: RULES FOR THIS THREAD
Posting guidelines for Politics and Soci...
These are our baselines. We're not reinventing the wheel here. If you aren't sure if something is acceptable to post, its better to ask first. If you think someone is posting something that violates the above guidelines, please report it or PM me rather than responding in kind.
To reiterate some of the points:
1. No personal attacks. This is a broad instruction, but, in general, we want to focus on attacking an argument rather than the poster making it. It is fine to say a post is antisemitic; it is not okay to call someone an antisemite over and over. If you believe someone is making antisemitic posts, report them or PM me. The same goes for calling people "baby killers" and "genocide lovers". You are allowed to argue that an action supports genocide or that the consequences of certain policies results in the death of children, but we are no longer going to be speaking to one another's intentions. It is not productive to the conversation and doesn't further any debate.
2. Racist posts and other bigoted statements that target a particular group or individuals of such groups with derogatory comments are not allowed. This should not need further explanation.
3. Graphic Images need to be in spoilers with a trigger warning.
4. Wishing Harm on other posters will result in an immediate timeout.
5. Genocidal statements such as "Kill 'em all" etc, are no longer permissible in the thread.
If anyone has any questions about the above, please PM me. I don't want a discussion about the rules to derail the content of this thread. If anything needs clarifying, I will do that in this thread.
Please be aware this thread is strictly moderated
found this about the hypersonic missiles
thats my problem with these get backs, it just gives israel a pass on invading more land and killing more civilians.
if they are going to attack israel do it with the same callousness and disregard for hu an life israel does .
I am a pacifist but letting one side bully is not going to end this .

I am not sure that they can even if they wanted to. they need to use these fast missiles which wont have nearly the payload as the 2k pound bunker busters that Israel is using on apartment building. I dont think they can fly bomber jets into Israeli air space without getting taken out.
now, if they can to 90% enrichment and put it on some of these hypersonic missiles then they might be able to.
^ I'm not a pacifist but dont agree with that (myrna) at all.
re deterrence a lot depends on intelligence and communications. if Israel believe Iran has the capability to do far worse then the current action may be intended as some form of deterence because it indicates they will if israel continues.
(Personally I suspect that this was about Hezbullah moral/support than anything else but in these situations there's usually so much we dont know)

I suppose were going to find out if israel have the intelligence/ability to take out the launchers

It would be an epic failure of the Israeli administration if they couldn't considering the route they've taken to escalate this situation. All Iranian capability use should have been acknowledged

Like I said earlier today, I’m pretty sure the people who are complaining about Israeli tactics would have no problem with them if the shoe was on the other foot. Every single one of Israel’s tactics are within international law, but you still have people making up a false genocide and ignoring every aggressive action of the nations surrounding Israel just so they can obfuscate the issues.
Now having said that, Israel acting within international law doesn’t mean I approve of everything they have done. We’ll see if the actions taken against Hezbollah backfire in the long term.
the colonies in the west bank are against "international law" but we shouldn't care about "international law" imho

That doesn’t make any sense given what Iran wants or is probably trying to achieve here. Iran wants the violence to be on Israel’s borders, not within Iran.

In the war is what I’m talking about. If they want to complain about the illegal settlements then sure, I’m with them on that. But it’s important to argue international law because they are using lawfare against Israel even though they are in the right. South Africa’s charge of genocide is an embarrassment to the court.

I mean Iran is "responding" to an attack on Hezbollah, like if they had a mutual defence treaty, they don't because Hezbollah isn't a state actor technically but does it matter?
it doesn't to me and it doesn't in reality.
the court you mention is an embarrassment in general

Yeah and? I never said Iran’s attack is illegal. People make this confusion that having a legal war means everything is going to be hunky dory.
they have a legal obligation to stop genocide.
i mean I think technically it is illegal because whatever happens to Hezbollah doesn't legally justify an Iranian response
I’m pretty sure it’s enough of a gray area for them to plausibly argue casus belli, and in general I think charges of war crimes should be reserved for clear cut cases. People want to call everything a war crime nowadays after the Iraq war.
Russia annexing Ukraine is a lot more clearly unjustified and illegal than what Iran is doing.

The particualrly dangerous thing about netanyahu is that his natural inclination has lined up with his personal need. That can make for extreme recklessness.
But it's rarely clear. They may assess it's better to face it now rather than wait until Iran can put a nuke on it. Or they may assess that they can take them out with the USA involved and that they can get that usa iunvolvement early on. Or ...
UK defence secretary says British forces 'played their part' on Tuesday
UK Defence Secretary John Healey has just confirmed that British forces "played their part" on Tuesday evening as part of "attempts to prevent further escalation in the Middle East".
In a statement, Healey said: "I completely condemn Iran's attack against Israel.
"British forces have this evening played their part in attempts to prevent further escalation in the Middle East.
"I want to thank all British personnel involved in the operation for their courage and professionalism.
"The UK stands fully behind Israel's right to defend its country and its people against threats."
No further details about the exact nature of Britain's involvement were given.
