I guess there is no difference in where you finish as long as it's top 8? Should have plenty of rest opportunities for big clubs down the line, I can't imagine that Man City-PSG on matchday 8 is going to involve the best possible lineups for example

It seems to me that it does matter since the knockout phase is actually seeded, the only draw that happens is to determine which side of the bracket a team goes in (so a team that finished 1st or 2nd is drawn into one of the two 1/2 spots in the bracket).
