2026 MLB Season Thread
Welcome back to the greatest, most fun baseball community in the world!
Last year was amazing entertainment. This year pr
Here is another one. 34 players in the history of major league baseball have hit at least 50 HRs in a single season. Of those 34 players, four never had (or are yet to have) another season that was within 25 HRs of their best season. (In other words, if the player's best season was 60 HRs, that player had no other season with as many as 35 HRs.)
Who are these players?
Mo Vaughn
Oh I looked up Joe Morgan and saw his 27/60 year but missed the 26/67 year.
Close is Barry Bonds. Who has a 24 gap.
My guess would be that it's someone recent like a Cal Raleigh who will probably exit the list.
1. Shohei Ohtani -- 113 in 2024, which I believe is the fifth highest single season total since WWII.2. Ronald Acuna -- 114 in 2023.3. Rickey Henderson -- seven times between 1980 and 1990.4. Tim Raines --101 in 1983.5. Lou Brock -- 121 in 19746. Vince Coleman -- three consecutive seasons from 1985 to 19877. Jose Reyes -- 90 exactly in 20078. Marquis Grisson -- 92 in 19929.
He still graduated.
Spoiler
But from the school of hard knocks.
Maris
Maris is close but I think the list is closed. I think his gap is 22 (61/39)
Moreno was 3rd in steals in 1980 with 96.
Leflore had 97 in 139 games and a much better percentage.
Henderson had 100.
40-60 I guess...plus the playoff run. Looks like the Mets are in town Mother's Day weekend. I may get to see them 3 times too!

I love watching Thome hit.
I had very good tickets many years ago in the old Shea stadium, right by the visitor's on deck circle, and I can confirm that Jim Thome is a much larger human than he appeared to be on TV. Big shoulders, big forearms, big hands. Just a ****ing big guy.
prince fielder is a surprisingly small man - always just assumed because of his girth and power that he was a big boy, he's not
Prince Fielder is like 270+ pounds.
some people should be measured by how wide they are, not how tall.
I'm sorry, but I didn't care like 5 years ago.
When I meet pro athletes they all seem big compared to regular people. Even Vince Coleman's forearms were striking.
Prince was listed at 5'11 but I wouldn't be surprised if he was less than that and then with some age loss and poor lifestyle might only be 5'9" now. He was fat when an active player of expect he's fatter now.
Most men who aren't fat or tall are under 160 lbs. Athletes make being 200 lbs seem normal but 90% of regular men that weigh 200+ have bodies like Homer Simpson. Being 200 lbs without being fat generally requires being both tall and somewhat jacked.
It's actually hilarious that the average American male is 199.8 lbs according to Google. The average Asian man (where obesity is rare and half the world's population lives) in the same search weighs 144 lbs. With the extra height of non Asians factored in, 160 or so should probably be the US average. The average American being 40 lbs overweight is probably about right.
