I'm not going to ban you or anyone for that matter unless someone really crosses the line.
I'm a liberal Democrat, but I know full well that 75 million people who voted for Trump aren't all idiots. And, again, I have friends who voted for Trump, not many, but it's not a big thing for me.
I think all of us here can discuss almost anything reasonably, and we should.
Doomscrolling today I saw posts from people who claimed illegal immigrants/undocumented aliens ranged from 11 million to 20 to 30 to 60 million. That the Roosevelt Hotel that's been closed since Covid is a luxury hotel.
I try to teach critical thinking and how language can be used to mean different things. (See illegal immigrants/undocumented aliens above.)
I think if we were all to meet up, we would like each other and have reasonable discussions. We do, after all, share some common interests.
I'm an atheist, but I do know that Jesus said what you do to the least of us, you do unto me. I wish we would all keep that in mind.
And mrbaseball, I'm going to join you in that gin and tonic tonight. Maybe more than one. I will think good thoughts about everyone.

As you can see, I live right on the ocean, so when it's 90 inland, it's in the 70s here. This storm seems to be circling the island.
But summers here can be brutal.

I was at OCS (June to August) in Newport in 1978 right on Naragansent Bay (I could see it outside my window) and it was one hot, humid, miserable, sweaty summer. Being near the water didn't seem to lessen the heat and probably increased the humidity. I did like Newport though. There was a gilded age mansion they turned into a night spot/resturaunt that was the bomb. Can't remember the name of it? But it was awesome back in the day and probably doesn't exist anymore? And downtown Newport had plenty of great bars and places to eat.
Newport has changed quite a bit since then. When the Navy was there, it had more of a honky-tonk feel. Now it's much more touristy in the summer. There's nice bars on Broadway, so I avoid downtown in the summer mostly. I get to go sailing every so often, but even that marina is away from the main drag.
I enjoy living here, but many locals complain far too much about tourists and people from out of state buying up real estate and driving up prices.
And I have no idea about any bar in a gilded-age mansion, but I will check with my local friends.

The first time I went off base in Newport we went to a bowling alley bar not far from base. It was the first and only time I ever saw duckpin bowling. The east coast is weird 😀

I did duckpin bowling in a league for a few years. The team was my dad, my three uncles, and me. I miss those days.
We always went bowling after Thanksgiving dinner.
