prairie, I'm sorry to hear about your loss.

APD, King, et al. Hope you guys had better conditions than down in suburbia. Unusual for here, heavy, wet snow.

Condolences, Prairiebreeze.

I remember you talking last summer about what a gut punch it was to find out about his diagnosis. It really brings into focus how nothing is promised.

Your message is as good then as it is now: live life with no regrets, for the people we care about. It’s a powerful message, and one I’ve tried to take to heart.

Worst part of my drive to the mountains yesterday was getting out of my own neighborhood. ~10"-12" of tire-trenched, wet heay snow with a bunch of crust on top.

The sun has taken care of our driveway, but the cul-de-sac is in rough shape.

My sister was visiting last weekend and she had a FWD mazda crossover rental with bad tires. She got it stuck on a hill in my neighborhood on Saturday afternoon, and I told her I would go take care of it by going back down the hill and around the block on a better-plowed street. Then when I got back into my neighborhood at the top of the block, I got the car stuck turning on to my street. Some neighbors helped me dig it out for 30 minutes. Was some of the worst driving conditions I've ever seen in GDMA in 20 years.

Thank you all. It’s really gutting right now.

Waiting on memorial details before I travel cross continent for the third time since October.

Sorry prairie:(

I’ve been thinking a lot about my own mortality of late. Crazy how one can go from feeling invincible while young to thinking about death all the time.

Funny thing about thinking about mortality. When I turned 60, I thought that because of various health issues I had about twenty good years left to me.

That was five years ago. Now I have just turned 65, and it still seems to me that I have about twenty good years left to me.

Not all the time, but we should all have our affairs in order. Make it easy on who's left to work your estate. Have a will. Get investments/bank accounts/etc set up with beneficiaries, so they transfer (and stay out of probate).

The latter can generally be done online. Make a point of doing so.

That is very good advice.

Dealing with stuff on both my parents and in-laws end. One side did all of the above including buying burial sites and the other had nothing organized. While it’s a little uncomfortable to talk about the planning aspects, it really is a big help.

That’s a pretty good outlook; wishing you at least 30 more good ones.

Any British ITT?

With the news of Charles' health problem following not too late after the queen's passing, I'm wondering if there is any (serious-ish) movement in GBR to get rid of the monarchy.

I was born in Britain but left 24 years ago.

I would think Charles dying quickly would probably strengthen the monarchy. William and Kate far more popular. Certainly around the Commonwealth too

It won’t happen anyway for two reasons

1. Follow the $$. Monarchy very good for business
2. You have to replace it with something. Australia has had at least 1 referendum about replacing them but other Head of State options are more unpalatable.

Also…I haven’t read the news but is it serious and developed? Prostate C is reportedly one of the better ones if found early

The American media is reporting that the cancer is not related to the prostate.

It will take a considerable blunder for the British to get rid of the monarchy. The Italians barely voted their king out and that took him siding with Mussolini and Hitler during WWII.

Really sorry to hear that and I love that you still reported the results of that session.

This has got to be a Twilight Zone. Old man has waited his whole life to be free from Mum, then;

Prairie's bro is strumming with Toby Keith.

Funny you say that. He liked his music. I couldn’t stand it. He loved to sail. Me: meh.

Smartest guy I ever knew. By a lot. And he gave of himself to everyone. A shirt off his back kinda guy. He stood in my wedding and I stood in his.

Before last fall we’d barely spoken in more than a decade. You would not have been able to tell if you’d walked in on that conversation that day.

The best dude. Just the ****ing best.

Friday is gonna be a day.

Thoughts are with you Prairie.

it's embarassing how bad my countrymen are at poker, massachusetts was no outlier, everyone sucks

not once in the us have i not felt at least a full standard deviation better than anyone else at the table and i'm retired from that game and just playing off my 2012 meta with a little bit of updates and hotfixes

oh no doubt, one day i'll likely get in trouble, but none of these places spread anything higher than 1/2 & 1/3 so the real threats migrate elsewhere

i'd say about 45% are pure trash, 30% bad, 20% solid but predictable, 5% good but with enough leaks to be exploited & rare enough to be easily ignored/avoided

bear in mind, the last few years of my pokerz were sitting 10 handed with 6-7 swedish pros & 2 japanese colluding mega nits hoping some CEO from India would spew his 500bb to someone when he gets top pair and can't find a fold so i'm accustomed to playing at tables where I would actively avoid playing any pots against all but 1-2 players because i had so much respect for their games so i'm still just incredibly star struck by the existence of 9 handed tables where not a single player is capable of folding pre when whatever hand he has happens to be suited - guys cold calling 4 bets with Q4s etc - or the exact opposite where they play so few hands it's incredibly easy to hand read them and overfold as an exploit and really push for thin value when you know their range means they can't possibly have better than an overpair because they 3bet pre

I've been enjoying the 2/3 (500) game at my room way way more than the 2/5/10 (1000) game I've been playing for a decade and I think my win rate would probably be higher at it. the bigger game is mainly decent uncreative pros and regs and then knowledgable but nitty nit/tag recs who can at least hand read and rarely spew. It's basically waiting for whales, coolers or people to tilt. (at least for me, as I'm not the most skilled guy of all time)

the 2/3 game attracts way more splashy bad recs and it's basically bet/fold city with the occasional later street bluff raise vs the right guy. and no danger of being outplayed by somebody creative....only by occasional ridiculous, nonsensical bluffs. the last few times I've played and then moved to the bigger game when my seat opened I've ended up regretting it
