General TV Discussion and Thread for Shows Without A Thread Thread

OOTV doesnt like family comedies much huh? Raising Hope and The Middle are two of the best(possibly the best outside of NBC)comedies on tv yet no threads.

Just an observation.

Shogun is coming to FX as a miniseries. The visuals in the trailer look impressive.

loved the book when I was a teen...looking forward to this

Pretty excited about Shogun

i still love the book and reread it every now and then

im excited for this too

Isn't the 1980 version supposed to be one of the best shows ever made? I have it downloaded, just haven't gotten to it yet.

I watched the original back in the day, I remember it being good, I recently watched the trailer for it, wow video quality was horrible back then, lol, also the trailer for the old show doesn't make it look good.

This new one is not a remake and likely will be completely different anyway.

the old show has not aged well. i actually rewatched it recently(found it on youtube after some digging).

i found myself still getting into it, but it took a bit of effort because the 1980 tv production(budget, technique, aesthetic) was hard to take.

Definitely psyched for Shogun.

I recently reread Clavell's entire Asian Saga: Shogun, Tai Pan, Gai Jin, King Rat, Noble Hose, Whirlwind.

Three episodes into Mr. and Mrs. Smith and it is bizarre, but not in a good way. The relationships stuff is quite well-written and the two leads have nice chemistry, but holy crap...the assassin/spy stuff is so, so bad.

First, the missions are ridiculous. This "company" needs to hire two disgraced military/CIA people without personal connections to what...deliver a bomb to a house or bug two phones? Seems like overkill.

spoiler:

I had the same reaction. Also, I'm not sure who exactly are they working for. Maybe I missed it. I probably will drop it, even thought basic concept is interesting.

don't recall the plot to taipan, but do remember the wardrobe choices quite well

also been meaning to watch noble house, it's supposedly amazing

Just watched the first 2 episodes of The Dynasty on Apple TV.

Not sue how this will be received by non-Patriots fans or even non Football fans, but I'm loving it.

didn't the original Shogun star Richard Chamberlain? I sort of remember that...

Correct

I read king rat in my early teens and was absolutely fascinated really wish a streaming service would give a super talented group of filmmakers a ton of money to make a mini series adaptation of it that was very faithful to the book.

king rat and shogun are great books!

but imo, his other books are meh

but yeah, king rat would make a great mini series! tai pan could be watchable too

oh, man! one of my favorite novels ever produced by a network that has shown the ability to deliver. eggcited.

Working my way through the Traitors, finished Season 1 and caught up on Season 2.

Season 2 is miles better because it's all reality stars and some of them are used to strategy. The "missions" are honestly lame and there's no way the people are completing them on time, but I guess they can't have them failing every time so there's no money to win.

Don't want to risk getting spoiled in the dedicated thread, do we have a consensus on True Detective latest season quality ? At least watchable ?

The consensus is that it's not that great, Dominic says it's great though.

I would say if you don't go in thinking it's going to be season 1 quality, then it's watchable.

As long as filthyvermin doesn't say it's great, it's all good 😃

Thanks !

a pretty good resource to see how shows improve or decline over a season, or seasons, is https://www.ratingraph.com/tv-shows/

resident alien on netflix
8.1 rating on IMDB

allen tudyk(pilot on firefly) plays an alien pretending to be a human in a small town

im partway through season 2, and im having a good time watching it. it's silly fun, but also has a little depth and some heart

Yep, Resident Alien is great, season 3 just started a week or so ago for those that aren't following.
