sentence one of paragraph one of the article you linked

A new U.S. intelligence assessment found it is likely that some employees of a United Nations agency that distributes aid to Palestinians took part in Hamas’s Oct. 7 assault on Israel.

case closed, goodbye UNRWA

Well that's the final word right there. Case closed.

meanwhile, israel/hezbollah is heating up

:(

Palestinians have right to ‘armed struggle’ against Israel, China tells ICJ

china says it, it must be true!!!

we have about 2 1/2 weeks until ramadan. i expect there to be a ceasefire with a big hostage deal before then, but israel is insisting on the remaining women first and hamas is allegedly hesistant. might be because they were raped and or are dead? shrug

yom kippur war was launched during ramadan, so nobody can say ramadan is off limits. i think its bad optics for hamas to not reach a ceasefire during ramadan though, so i do think a deal will be made

The overall assessment by those analysts was still that UNRWA workers participated in the terrorist attack.

"Low confidence" is explained in the next two paragraphs:

A low-confidence assessment indicates that the U.S. intelligence community believes the claims are plausible but cannot make a stronger assertion because it doesn’t have its own independent confirmation. The U.S. concluded the claims are “credible,” a U.S. official said.

U.S. officials said that American spy agencies haven’t traditionally focused on gathering intelligence on Gaza, and that Israel hadn’t shared the raw intelligence behind its assessments with the U.S., limiting their ability to reach clearer conclusions.

according to an intelligent assessment from a hostile group, they found that is it is plausible that a handful of workers participated.

further, there is no indication that 10% of UNRWA is affiliated with Hamas.

and further they mention the bias from Israel.

do you think that makes it appropriate to shut the whole thing down?

So the whole UNRWA thing was based on claims that the Israeli military can't back up? Amazing.

who could have ever guessed?

sadly the fact that UNRWA workers participated in the attack means that the UNRWA has to go

i hope it can be replaced quickly by an agency which does not have ties to terrorist organisations

I don't get the criticism of UNRWA. It has thousands of employees. Of course some were Hamas. They need day jobs.

Is there any suggestion that UNRWA has taken policy steps to aid Hamas? I've yet to hear of any. Did Hamas members affect a decision?

I think the Israelis are just trying to starve Gazans.

Now you're just trolling

the problem is that a large number of members of the organisation spent oct 7 raping and murdering civilians

does that clear it up

Name one.

by Luciom

It's not genocide if you take care to target Hamas and only kill civilians when Hamas used them as human shields

According to what definition? Please show me where you found a list of actions that are identified as not part of genocide. Or did you make this up?

Do you believe other posters said these things or are you lying or are you being delusional. Because these things were not uttered by anyone in this thread, besides you

Do the organizations that Israelis work for (and then harm Palestinians) get shut down?

Seems to be a very one sided conflict. Rules for thee and not for me

somehow we went from a handful plausibly participated to a large number did rape and murder.

I dont think you have the best grasp on the details here bruv.

yes all the european countries whose intelligence agreed with the report must be dumb?

come on man

by Luciom

I did answer i said 50k for 5k would absolutely be justified if those were the numbers.

Your post history says otherwise. Please quote where you said that.

that's a fair point

the bigger issue is they were working at the unrwa hospital which makes all of the unrwa claims of "THERE HAS NEVER BEEN ANY HAMAS WORKING USING OUR HOSPITALS AS BASES" very unreliable

but i agree that it doesnt mean unrwa as a whole is necesarily bad. but they need better oversight for sure

US intelligence (always an honest broker) isn't even backing up the IDF on this one. It's absurdly weak tea, but you guys are so desperate for any kind of validation right now.

For good or bad, this is correct. UNRWA has a lot of employees. There was a lot of terrorist who participated in the invasion. There is going to be some overlap.

Layered on top of the fact that it is just statistically likely some UNRWA employee participated in the invasion, is the fact that the way Gaza society operates it is pretty much inevitable UNRWA employees are going to be sympathetic to Hamas.

Hamas gets rid of everyone that isn't sympathetic to them, which is one of the reasons they have been able to stay in power so long despite being so horrible at their job. It is also one of the reasons there is no journalism in Gaza. It is all just pro Hamas propaganda. Any real journalist would be removed (likely violently) immediately. It is known that Hamas even puts a lot of pressure on Imams to tow the party line, and the ones that dont just disappear.

Obviously UNRWA being sympathetic to Hamas is a big problem, but not one there is an easy solution for as long as Hamas is around. Hamas isn't going to turn over a leaf and start allowing actual neutral parties to operate.

further, there is no indication that 10% of UNRWA is affiliated with Hamas.

I mean there is a lot of room to quibble over the definition of the word "affiliated," but I would guess that is a low number. I would say it is pretty much inevitable in a theocratic totalitarian state like Gaza greater than 10% of pretty much everyone, including aid workers, health care workers, social workers, journalists, etc. is going to be affiliated with Hamas. If they weren't, Hamas wouldn't allow them to operate.
