yeah my car will be parked from Thursday afternoon until Sunday night

That's good to hear. As my father-in-law in Wisconsin says of winter driving, keep the shiny side up.

Hey! It's not winter!

OK, wintery.

In Arabic, the word for winter is shitta', and just like in English, you add an "ee" sound onto a noun to turn it into an adjective. Thus winter-like weather when it is not technically winter is "shittee." Always seemed appropriate.

Still wintery conditions in CO mountains. Starting to get warmer locally, though. Time to dust off the golf clubs.

So I did this last night in my 1/3 NL session...

I limp AA cuz doing anything else is stoopid.

Noob microstack raises to $15.

Terrible Reg who I've played with for a decade+ (although haven't seen in a long while) flats.

I eyeball the Noob stack, say "What is that, like $65? Let's do that then", and put in a huge third of my relatively small $200 stack.

Noob calls all-in.

I politely announce "Unlucky dood, I've got Aces" and I'm about to table my hand when the dealer laughs and says "Whoa GG! Terrible Reg still has to act!"

Lol, whoops.

The table has a good laugh at my expense and a couple players give me coaching tips. Warranted.

The laughter dies down, but Terrible Reg hasn't folded yet. He ponders for a while and then... Makes. The. Call.

Setting up the river bluff. Did you win the hand?

Runout was also kinda funny. 5 high flop, Terrible Reg checks, I jam 2/3 PSB, he folds, I table my AA, noob tables his TT, he spikes a T on the turn, but I river the straight.

I have played my last hand of poker. :( Lost the last of my $2,000 bankroll today (as it was not enough to salvage a downswing).

Oh well. Now I REALLY need a new job!

LONG OVERDUE UPDATE:

I accepted a job offer with one of the giant mortgage companies today. These last two months have been ROUGH.

I will be very sad to say goodbye to the Doggy Day Care. However, I am looking forward to returning to the chance to play poker just for fun, although at a much lower volume (maybe just two or three sessions a month).

Congrats on the new job and glglgl.

Glad to see things are looking up. Congrats.

Congrats, davo.

I made it down here to this Indian casino in the middle of nowhere South Dakota where we've got a tournament series going this weekend. was snowing, visibility was low but I didn't have any problems driving and no one else was on the road. supposed to be super bad Sunday-Monday so I'll probably be stuck here at this small crappy casino into next week.

I dealt tonight for the turbo kickoff tourney, got like 105 entries which is good all things considered. the players down here are totally crazy and they hadn't even had much to drink yet. lots of old people that can't see the cards, regularly asking about procedure and the like, mostly farmers and ranchers that talk about hay and cattle and corn. I kinda wanted to get in and play but didn't really get a chance.

it's been a month since I played and after a bit of a hot streak to start the year I'm slumping a bit. they opened up a cash game later and I bought in, expecting 1/2 but they were doing 2/5. it's a bit out of my comfort zone but whatever, the table was very splashy and a bit wild. I got a few nice hands like AK and KQ but couldn't hit the flop and got run off the hands. then nitted up waiting for a chance to strike but went card dead so I barely played a hand for an hour. eventually I got in a hand where I called an all-in with 8-8 for less, my last like $60, there were 4 all-ins, and my 8-8 held as the only pair. that got me close to even.

2 hands later UTG opened to $15, several callers and in the BB I called with 97hh. flop was good, 865cch giving me the early nuts. SB bet $15 and I raised to $85, and got a caller in MP. turn (please no club, please no club) was Tc. he jammed out of turn for $100. does he have it? can I fold the nut straight on a cchc board? of course not, and lost to A2cc.

I busted a little later very shortstacked when heads up my K8 hit a 8Qx flop and the villain had a Q.

I only brought a couple buy-ins so the early end on day 1 is a bummer. hopefully if I play tomorrow I can bounce back a little. let's flop another straight without getting flushed on, or actually get top pair for once

also hoping the weather doesn't scare away all the players from the North to come down so I can make a decent payday from dealing.

Stories and poker chat but no hand histories is the norm in here Langdon.

Hope you run well and have a fun weekend

not too much hand histories, won a 4 way all in with a pair of 8s (that's interesting) and flopped the nut straight only to lose to a turned flush (that's also interesting).

I'll keep the deep dive out and look for a story or two tomorrow

Not the right F word for poker. Maybe WgcmDr Garlick can find an Arabic cognate. Congrats on the job. Will you be robo-calling?

Glad you made it. Surprised so many others did too. I was afraid the dealers would outnumber the players.

gman, did you ever hang out in some doughnut shops in aurora Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, in the 90s?

I has the confused. Am I supposed to be the guy talking about stabbing people? Garth? Wayne? The cop? or one of the guys in the training montage?

Good luck with the new job. Mortgages have slightly lower variance than poker 😀

Congrats Dave-O, a solid fulltime job with pokrz as a purely rec side gig is the nut line, imo.

Guy next to me at poker table has painted his fingernails black, a very racist “chinaman” tattoo on one wrist and a skull with a military Helmet smoking a cigar tatted on other wrist. What range do I put him on?

Pocket swastikas.
