GG thought process from both sides
AQo - this is a bit loose in the CO, but yeah I’ll limp. *flop comes* Oh snap! The second nuts! I need to be careful here just in case he has AA. *Checks to the turn* V hits his TT boat and bets, GG calls. *River* V bets, GG calls just in case.
TT - folds to GG OTB and he… limps. SB raises to $10. GG calls. *Flop AQQ* checks through. Turn T… I don’t think I’m good here, I only beat Kings.. for now. SB bets $10. GG calls begrudgingly. River a blank. SB bets $40.
Completely inaccurate due to tank / having clock called on me; not my style at all!

Unless you guys also post a fave recent song with each piece of poker strat, my guess is that you'll scare off Uncle Slim for good.

To be fair I took that entire read out of Skip’s autobiography - Hillbillies, Basketball Moms, and Playing Horrible Poker Against Gypsies.
It all came out of Chapter 11 - Bankruptcy and Trying to Play Poker to Get Even.

Hurt - Johnny Cash
It’s got some Papa Slim emo vibe, and is fitting for all the butthurt going on in the last few pages.

Slightly Stoopid - Collie Man
beginning to understand why we generally frown upon strat talk here 😀
I'm enjoying reading it all though
Hand history summarized: Just Pay (tm)
Well, that's what you have left. Because that wiener waving has left the chat thread.
You can find it here if you miss it.
G went hard on the spring cleaning there
makes me worry we have browser part deux in the works, that's how his reign of tyranny began was moving dozens of posts each day to "the appropriate thread"
In true tapatalk fashion, the link in G's post goes to an old thread from 2008.
Here's a boring hand:
$5/5. UTG limps. CO raises to $25. Hero raises to $60 otb with K♠K♣. UTG raises to $160. CO folds. Hero calls.
Flop Q♥J♦3♥ (pot $355)
UTG bets $130. Hero folds.
I'm simply not going to pay off some 70 year old man who limps and 4-bets. Honestly folding pre-flop is probably fine.
Here's a slightly less boring one, which I played horrifically and lost way more at 1-2...
1-2, 340 effective.
UTG makes it 5; 3 calls; H on BTN makes it 25 with AA; UTG makes it 80; folds to H who gets cute and calls because he's 3bet V a couple of times and figures V puts the rest in a lot post but maybe finds folds to a shove:
Pot: 175ish
Flop: KJ5; V bets 25; H hates life and calls 50% sure V has top set
Pot: 225
Turn: KJ5 7; V checks; H knows he should check but bets 50 instead; V snap raises to 125; H knows he should fold but puts the rest in like a fish praying it's somehow AK; V snap calls with KK.
H again finds out why studying is pointless if you are going to punt it off.

Well you don't need to shove pre.
I like to minraise him pre there. After that if you lose, you lose.
First they came for the strat discussion, and I did not speak out - because I'm a donkey.
curious if anyone regs the philly rooms like rivers or the philly live here specifically the 1/3 game? is this appropriate low content convo for this thread?
Also - to all of my married friends haunting this forum: what are your best strategies for getting out of the house to play cards?
I've been waiting for wife to go to sleep (she works early, my job is late nights mostly weekends and handful of hours during the week here and there) but the games after midnight weekdays dont seem to run like they used years back (talkin prolly more than 3-5+ years before covid even) and the games early afternoons are about as fun as visiting a morgue for camaraderie.
Any deep strat advice / playbook you willing to share with another lost soul?
leave a little lipstick smeared on your collar and then she'll figure no big deal, he's just having an affair, not playing poker
idk man, this chat has definitely lost people due to wives ixnaying gambling
it's tough to navigate with some, i think sneaking around will lead to very bad things eventually - ie imagine if you discovered she was sneaking off while you were asleep and not telling you and you had no idea what she was doing
best bet is to negotiate it into your relationship and frame is as cheaper than golf/bars - helps significantly if you have a winning track record that can be verified
but even when i was gambling full time for a living and met women who knew that when we first started dating, quite a few of them eventually lay out the "no more gambling" ultimatum

stop being a pussy, have a conversation and be honest about it. Don't ask for permission, ask for understanding/blessing. Communicate your passion for cards, the importance to stay in touch with your interests and encourage her to do the same. Then agree a realistic amount of time per week/the most suitable time/times and days. Again, ensure this is a two way street and she should do the same. If necessary show her win/loss records, bankroll stats etc.
if she doesn't get this then she's selfish as all hell
Not sure if you have kids yet but if she's already blocking this and you don't have kids then oh man are you in for it because the 'time to myself' metric becomes 10x more important once the pets come along
I already work in an industry that from the outside looks like fun all the time so I get the needling about that - adding this back again even tho I was both in that industry and a regular card player when we first met .
just felt like something I wanted to slow roll a lil bit first - you know show up and pay for more **** that contributes to the “us” and then reveal the big disappointing surprise first
But ethically I agree with you and my question was partially just low content humor (tho I am winking right now to indicate a partial possibility that I would take some advice on being sneaky)
It would t necessarily ruin things but I was hoping to have something nice to present like a nice log of winnings that I can present in the form of that vacation to the Mediterranean in Tisno Croatia next summer.
Which by the by, if y’all ever thinking bout coastal Italy along the Mediterranean - Croatia is just as beautiful a fraction of the cost and the food is amazing as long as it’s not beef.
My trick is to make enough money that she doesn't care if I lose some of it playing poker. In addition to that, we share a bunch of other hobbies (golf, skiing, board games) and hang out a ton in general. So when I say I'm going to play poker, she doesn't care. I'm not playing prime time hours, though. Nor do I really want to as a rec player.
We also don't have kids. If/when that changes, poker will absolutely move way down the priority list.
Alternatively, play online through something like PokerBros, PokerNow, or one of the online sites. Then you don't have to leave the house.
