A war to eradicate a terrorist group that is in control of a locality with heavy civilian support (because of indoctrination).
The terrorist group routinely uses human shields and makes bases inside schools, hospitals, daycare centers even, and that causes children and otherwise innocent people to die.
Given the situation the number of civilian, non-implicated casualties is exceptionally LOW, and praises should be given to the incredible moral standards of Israel, better than most countries at war in human history.
You should call it what you personally think you should call it instead of asking for others to tell you what you should call it. But it doesn't matter anyway what it's called because it will be called whatever others decide to call it for the people who will call it because others decided to call it for them.
So hamas attacks Israel, kills at least 1200 civilians in cold blood, and takes hostages
Israel gets the people who were taken hostage back in return for giving up 10 times the number of people who have committed crimes (according to Israel)
So the moral would be
Attack Israel and win?
Hamas cannot remain in power
You know this
Hamas needs to be out of power
The war can end
Bibi can get voted out
And maybe we can find a way to peace in the region
But it needs to happen in that order

full eradication of everyone connected with Hamas is the goal, the absolute moral imperative at any cost. If hostages can be recovered in the meanwhile, better. Otherwise, they died assassinated by terrorists and we have more reasons to spend our lives eradicating terrorism.

You call 40000 people getting killed winning? How many of those are Hamas militants? You don't think tunnels have been destroyed? You don't think Hamas ability to attack Israel has been diminished? You call that all Hamas winning?
You want the goal to be the destruction of Hamas precisely because that is so hard to define. Hamas exists in exile? Bombs away. Some people from Hamas are in a new party? Oh, they just changed their name. Bombs away. It's a perpetual excuse for Israel to always be right no matter what.
