In other news
In the current news climate we see that some figures and events tend to dominate the front-pages heavily. Still, there are important, interesting or just plain weird things happening out there and a group of people can find these better than one.
I thought I would test with a thread for linking general news articles about "other news" and discussion. Perhaps it goes into the abyss that is page 2 and beyond, but it is worth a try.
Some guidelines:
- Try to find the "clean link", so that links to the news site directly and not a social media site. Avoid "amp-links" (google).
- Write some cliff notes on what it is about, especially if it is a video.
- It's not an excuse to make outlandish claims via proxy or link extremist content.
- If it's an editorial or opinion piece, it is polite to mark it as such.
- Note the language if it is not in English.
- There is no demand that such things be posted here, if you think a piece merits its own thread, then make one.

At the end of the day, universities realize their purpose (other than being giant hedge funds that dont pay taxes) is to produce graduates people want to hire. And when it becomes clear that promoting left wing activism is running counter to this purpose, and damaging the brand, there will be some course correction, at least in the private universities.
Obviously the more the govt is involved in any enterprise, the less willing and able it will be to respond to market forces. And universities are no different.

A growing number of state Republican operations are either broke or perilously close to it.
Like other state Republican parties nationwide, Colorado’s GOP is
feeling the pinch of the national party’s Trump-centric fundraising plan.

Trump’s deal with the RNC requires the party to run its donations first through his Save America PAC.
Trump’s use of campaign funds to pay his legal fees is alienating longtime

Republicans chose an awful time to go broke.

Around here, you can land yourself 5-figure signing bonuses as a tradesman joining the right company.
Kids fresh off the boat will have their choice of paid apprenticeships, and the only qualifications are that you show up on time and can listen to directions. That first part is harder than it sounds, if our own experience is any indication.
Like, dude, we gave you a company truck that has a GPS tracker in it. Don't tell me you're 5 minutes away from the site when I can quite literally hear that we just woke you up and the truck is still in your driveway.
But given the severe labor shortage, some of these guys just know they can get away with it. Even if they do get canned, they'll have a new job before the end of the day.

In Italy the economy is less buoyant but given the low skill level of many competitors (and the barrier to entry for immigrants, who can rarely pass Italian tests well enough to qualify as installers, as they can't read instructions nor learn Italian laws often enough), if you are half decent you have more work than you can do, and if you are able to self manage, it's a quick route to a significantly over average salary with ample opportunities to create your own small service company
