Reminds me of all the loudmouths who have to let everyone know they're "from Houston".

Yeah, good for you buddy.

I dare you to come over here and say that lmao

Indeed very interesting, but also annoying because he's so damn stupid and unable to pronounce words he thinks he knows.

But he's from St Louis!!

So was Michael Spinks ?

Feature table time at the TOC

Made Day 2 of the Freeroll basically on the bubble with just over 100 left. Did he qualify more than once to this event?

To stretch/stir just because that's what we do here .. So if he was backed/stacked in NC, AND that's the reason he qualified for this Freeroll, should those parties also get a piece of anything he takes home from here?

Didn't really watch the stream much yet .. but may just listen to it in the car to see how much the mic picked up on him and the others.

To give him some credit, for all the dust surrounding him, he has sustained success over a long period of time. Perhaps he also knows his place playing WSOPc events rather than trying to step up or get caught up in the cash game streams. Does he really play a full WSOP schedule? And I'm not trying to be negative with this at all. He may be smart in the 'fact' that he is in his wheelhouse playing +EV in Circuit Events rather than trying to 'step up.

Lots of other 'dust makers' have faded away fairly quickly from the poker world. Whether you think by scam, other or a mix of both it would be remiss if you don't acknowledge that he's been doing this, at the same level of poker, for a very long time in poker terms. GL

No one is denying that he has some live poker chops. The fact that his game is centered around verbally abusing people is certainly a moral grey area though. The jury is not out on whether or not he is a scammer though. It is a fact. Do not make any financial agreements with this man.

Any sort of verbal sparring would lose its edge the second you start repeating "your a verified scammer" every time he opens his mouth

That will up to the agreement between him and his backers.

I have played with him several times and from what I see, he is very very good at getting recs to play with their egos instead of their brains. Solid poker fundamentals too, obviously.

We will probably never see him on the high roller circuit, he cant tilt those guys into donating stacks to him.

When you lose Other Peoples money when you lose but keep the money when you win pretty easy to be active for a long time.

At some point someone needs to be made an example.

Maurice could be a good choice, he's the next best thing to Cheato Ream.

Pretty funny that he claims he has paid backers for the last 3, 4 or 5 years but his backer that claimed he owed money in 2022 says it was about 4 years old. So, he really may not have lied, he just isn't paying old debt before 2020- that's shits written off.

Timely article from Poker News

I applaud that they overshadow every victory he has with his behaviour and controversies. May it remain a mark he can’t wash out.

Crazy. The court decision was six years ago, this thread referenced a 2022 update that suggested Hawkins was either $10K, $20K or $35K on the way back to paying back the $115,828 tab. I totally forgot about the story until I saw it as the subject of Berkey's S4Y podcast earlier this week.

Agree. They don't do it with any other player, either. I assume it's because the Hawkins-Garcia debt has actual backing to it, even if it's only a fraction of what (say) Chino Rheem owes.

Yea they don't wanna get involved in he said she said disputes, but with a court judgement they don't have to worry about getting sued.

I owe johan5390 money,but galfond settled the debts. (?)

Still technically in makeup to Phil...

One of my biggest gripes with our judicial system is that they 'award' damages, but there seems to be little enforcement of lack of payment.

In this case, why isn't a payment plan set up, and someone 'assigned' (a multitasker) to make sure payments are made, or report back to the judge to obtain an arrest warrant? The 'someone' gets 'assigned' at the first lack of payment, and his salary is paid by a small increase in each of the scofflaw's debts. Or more directly, the person owing must send the court the payment monthly like a car payment and their 'fee' is deducted and then the lender gets a Dir Dep of the bulk to their account? Could be a branch of Child welfare social services. I think it is workable.

Add another victim of Maurice, as new Cardplayer article references the Garcia case and reveals a very recent victim. I hate to blame the victim but with all the information that is available, about this particular scammer, you have to be extraordinarily negligent or just plain stupid to give Maurice any money.
