Went to a party for my friend's 71st birthday, so there were three of us there who have friends since freshman year in high school. That's a long time.

And as an aside, why do men wear such horrible shoes with suits? I'm thinking of Barkley and Shaq and a host of others who wear what are basically sneakers.

That's the way it is now and I don't think there is any going back. I have my own concept of what constitutes being "well dressed", but it is obsolete, as it should be. I also differentiate between what constitutes fashion and what constitutes style.

My 14 year old granddaughter wrote a speech for the local VFW for memorial. She won the competition and delivered the speech yesterday. She received 300 dollars for winning the competition.

And the crazy retired cop who lived next door gave her twenty bucks because he thought she represented some hope for the younger generation.

At the local bar they hired a gal that for some reason reminds me of the “ Hippie Era”. Odd that, and I honestly don’t think it’s any silly pretending on her part. It all may be subliminal on my part. It’s an up scale place for the location that I inhabit.

It’s very silly that old men with long white hair wear ponytails. What are these idiots thinking; that’ it is 1969!?

Listening to the 5/28 Star Talk podcast, which happens to feature Adam Savage of Mythbusters fame. Somebody named John Cole wrote in a question for him.

Not me. There are far too many of us with that name. Once at a conference I was seated with some professors from West Virginia. The chair of their English department was John Cole. I was also the chair of the English department.

I paid extra for a better seat on a plane. Somebody was sitting in my seat. Not only was he a John Cole, but we had the same seat number. He was happy to move because he could sit with his family.

I went to a wedding a couple years ago for the daughter of my former secretary. Her daughter was marrying a guy named Andrew Cole. When he found out my name, he took me to meet his uncle, John Cole.
